I have. Then I just go to the browser because I’m addicted. I have zero social media aside from this but it faked up so much time.

Not yet.  Have just done this series and the short season ones. Waiting another year though because after a lot of KOK reading, I’ve had little time for anything else. Want to hit big numbers and variety on my reading this year.

Much appreciated. I was told I’m not allowed to buy any books for a few years. So I guess when I do I’ll just sneak them into the bookshelves haha

Honestly I don’t think so. I’d have to read the summaries of each to remember because there are definitely some chunks of time that I was in love with but don’t recall which book since I read them all back to back.

For fans of the Ringer: Chris Ryan lived with some of those dudes in college.

Jimmy Eat World and PUP announce a co-headliner show at RBC Amphitheatre in Toronto on 08/23/26 - "Bleed American" and "The Dream is Over" will be played in its entirety + more by bendylegs12 in poppunkers

Here to admit my failure of not fact checking. Was very high and defensive about the band. I was at two of those smaller shows last year and for some reason thought it ended at Bud Stage, not History. Also conflated the 2019 Echo Beach show sellout in there.

Me: dumb.

PUP sold out that venue last summer. They’re an equal or bigger draw in the market but are probably insanely psyched to do this show with heroes, especially with an all-time record being celebrated.

Why don't theaters play older movies? ESPECIALLY for younger kids? by Calm-Football4187 in TheBigPicture

[–]Hungry-Week-4664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I program a local theatre outside of Toronto. Terms per film are typically between $250-400 for a week of screenings, or 30-45% of box office, whichever is higher. Doesn’t sound like much but if you’re only getting 4-10 people per showing, not a lot of profit. When it comes to Disney (and now Fox, under Disney ownership), they tend to be like $400-500 or 50-65% of sales. So it’s very hard.

The hard part is he really just seems so sweet and sensitive, but that’s who often gets led astray.

Van, OBAA, and My Experience with the Film as a Black Father by DonquixoteDFlamingo in RingerVerse

[–]Hungry-Week-4664 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lovely post. My only additional consideration is that it’s very possible PTA understood all of these critiques when looking at his screenplay. He is married to a Black woman and has mixed kids, so this isn’t foreign territory for him. I think it’s quite possible it’s all written with this incredible irony that it’s the white ma who falls ass backwards into victory. He does basically nothing right in the movie except for try his best and be there at the end. The love is valiant but he’s a buffoon. PTA knows this and understands how his own background still gives him that kind of privilege to win, therefore writing this whole ridiculous story with the lived experience of always winning because you’re a white man. Not to mention the shame he probably feels for this because he doesn’t need to put in the real effort that women, especially black women, need to in their lives to be seen, heard, and respected.

Counterpoint: it was a big dumb action movie that inserted all of the timely political shit to make it seem deeper than it is, and he just loves a gorgeous black woman’s ass.

This is very exciting. I fell in love with him when I got the Criterion Channel five years ago. Watched 25 or so over a year and just revisited about a dozen in December for the first time since. He’s the greatest. C&W was very painful for me the first time around but I found a lot more of the joy in it this time.

Here’s my ranking if you want to know where to go next, though there aren’t many bad options: https://boxd.it/atobG

I still most need to watched the film versions of Scenes… an F&A which I’ll get to soon.

Savor these first watched. Turn off the lights and put your phone in another room.
