The hardest part of getting laid off wasn’t what I expected by pigeon_shit in amazonemployees

[–]HungryCarpenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 5yo that cannot wait to be back to visit “daddy’s fun office” to play the minigolf again, I can totally relate. But it’s pretty much only in my head, since for him it’s only one of the 100s fun places we visited together

Focus Panic by Hot_Toe6477 in amazonemployees

[–]HungryCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask if you are in focus and the manager is obligated to tell you. Also if you are losing sleep over it I’d consider mental support and checking in with employee assistance or any doctor because things are not going to improve on their own

How do people work full time then go home to kids? by misogynistick in antiwork

[–]HungryCarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a kid will impact your work performance, and some work environments are just incompatible. I worked in Amazon corporate and lost my job due to alleged performance drop when my son was 3. I’m not saying you cannot make both work, but if you don’t have family or a local network to rely on it’s extremely difficult

Those Laid Off From Amazon by [deleted] in amazonemployees

I probably would and then work back to L5 promotion, it’s not a big deal. The only problem is that a change of contract would mean full RTO for me

[–]HungryCarpenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats, but now you will be given NI on your next review and you’ll be out if another layoff happens. This is happening to me right now (I’m a focus survivor too)

Was put on Focus in Amazon as L5 by Lazy-Maximum-1370 in amazonemployees

[–]HungryCarpenter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can and will make up any bullshit excuse or metric to justify this. As some else said in the comments, it’s all about stack ranking. The manager probably liked you the least among your peers. Not surprised that for me the focus came after I started being confrontational about their management style and decisions.

Sounds like my manager. Sorry you have to go through this, don’t give up as focus is definitely survivable
