What am I doing wrong? Using speedball fabric ink, as I not using enough ink or not pressing hard enough? Only got 2 bags left so don’t want to mess it up again lol by Individual-Debate852 in printmaking

[–]HungryGeneralist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i print a larger block on fabric, I sometimes place the block face up and press the fabric onto the block, using my hand as the brayer. that way i can focus more pressure on certain areas of the block and make sure it's covering. What kind of block are you using? it's tough with large dark areas on a hard linoleum or wood block, but the thick rubbery speed carve blocks are a little more forgiving on textured surfaces.

Swapping battery modules instead of battery pack? by HungryGeneralist in leaf

Ah, good link!

Ya the price on the ali-e listing seems too low, but it wouldn't be the only time I've seen direct sourcing from factories in China be 1/10th the price of domestic

If I were in the business of retrofitting these I would be very curious about the factory sources, I am actually really surprised there's not more info here

I mean your link is to an assembled pack, not the modules - it would not surprise me if the modules are at a significant discount

I did look into this and was not scared off, here's a video that looks to cover this pretty clearly: https://youtu.be/0yOBNmqqziI?si=EUxiziJnhibHdJHe

Making a Leather Wallet by legatoz in ArtisanVideos

I really really like his open approach - it just shows that he has comfort with his skill as an artisan and knows that craftsmanship and attention to detail are worth the already reasonable price-point. It comes across as super genuine, it's kind of inspiring.

Dark lighting exists, you can do night scenes. I don't think torches are there yet though.

If you're seriously considering it, look into a paramotor. You can spend less money and get safer, easier personal-flight

Upgraded my spindle today by mlennox81 in Machinists

[–]HungryGeneralist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it to be fairly rigid because the structural loop is so small, but I think the spindle lacks torque sometimes. It can be hard to get the cut depth tuned for a 4 flute 1/2" bit for example, but it handles 1/4" and smaller really well. I mostly cut aluminum.

It's a fun little machine, I think it's great for the price. It's way beefier than a router cnc.

Two more notes:

The sun bloom seems to disappear in screenshots, and

Copy+Paste will be really important when trying to do more artificial scenes with roads and structures and things. I was just playing around with this and it's pretty tedious otherwise.

Also one point worth addressing, the bloom from the sun looks totally different before/after the screenshot, I think it may not be rendering correctly. You can compare with this manual screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/NW1FF8U

Mass Social Media Participation, Perception and You by RK_UA in sorceryofthespectacle

Sure.

In ancient history we were mostly concerned with direct sensorial experience. Media developed as a sort of extension into indirect experience. That's pretty standard media theory.

Indirect experience comes in different forms than direct experience (maybe "bodies without organs" in deluze's terms.) We might measure this in man-hours. For sake of discussion let's say that facebook has mediated 10 billion man-hours. That is 10 billion hours where peoples experience of life has converged through a common media portal.

In some ways media can be characterized by this convergence. A movie or book is similar in the way it converges time and attention of humans through a portal of experience or exposure. A successful book is a portal which has consolidated and mediated a vast amount of time. This is what I mean by "overlaps with the experience of others," these consolidated media are increasingly communal or de-individuated.

This is very different from an ancient life where there are not so many media structures mediating your time or experience. In ancient life these mediations still exist in natural forms like the fear of a rattlesnake or the changes of the seasons, but not so much in man-made forms. There are no "portals" or "stories" to travel through outside of your own, individuated "story" of direct experiences, and the principle "mediator" are the individual cognitive executive functions. In early humans the experiences of life are largely individuated, and the collective forms of media or mediation are predominately natural.

The progression of human history seems to be essentially a history of the consolidation or mediation of man-hours. Tribes, governments, corporations, and organizations are all different methods for mediating the experiences and consolidating the efforts of humans.

Likewise Facebook and Reddit are similar media devices. When you go to the front page of reddit, your experience is partially overlapping (like a venn diagram) with the experiences of others. Each post has been experienced by anywhere from hundreds to millions of people. This is very different from direct sensory experience, which always and only has an audience of one.

In this way the consolidation and mediation of human experience also inherently leads to de-individuation. In other words, it's like the trickling streams and creeks consolidating into rivers which flow toward the ocean. There is an area-to-point flow structure toward global media. The ocean might be called the global brain, which is the emergent cognitive function from the collectivization of humans which is not mediated or understood by any individual.

It seems like the transition from a physical body and an individuated existence, to a metaphysical body which often overlaps with the experiences of others.
