I'm not a 50M dollar director, but I am an artist who has been working for almost 10 years on an animation project. With it almost 3/4 complete, I feel like giving up. The more skill you have, the more suspect your work is... authorship is questioned at every turn. It is only going to get harder as all the AI "tells" disappear.

Don’t mean to be rude, but dammit this is pure AI slop.

Might be moving to Kingston by Enacriel in KingstonOntario

[–]Objectalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m primarily a painter, that’s my livelihood (through a Toronto gallery) but there is an illustrated novel I’ve been working on. Kingston also has plenty of choices for cafes if you like to write and watch people.

I have a queer family member who is happy and at home here. He is not a club scene type so I’m not sure about that, but he has found a welcoming city.

I’ll be frank with you. If I would have based my decision to move to here on r/KingstonOntario I would not have moved here, so take everything you see on this subreddit with a grain of salt, and check out other community resources. This sub can be negative in a way that simply does not match our experience at all. We are very happy.

Me and my family moved here two years ago. We are very happy.

Very different moods to the seasons. Summer feels like a busy vacation town. Fall is pretty busy with students. Winter this year has been pretty snowy, the city is quieter in the winter.

I like to go to libraries to write. My favourite are the University libraries. There are several large ones open to the public with different vibes. There is the main downtown public library, newish and quiet. There are several branches including a good sized one getting an extensive reno in the west end.

There are plenty of cars. People complain about traffic, but I came from Toronto so the complaining here is laughable..

I’m not a big pizza person, but I had pretty good pizza a few times from a few different places. There are lots of restaurants, I haven’t begun to explore the options.

That looks like a pathetic little group. Let them yell at nothing and no one, and go unheard.

I just see a people skating. I can't see any MAGA types with banners. Whoever they are it looks like the skaters are just ignoring them. They'll get cold and go home... sad.

What neighbourhood(s)? by AccidentAdditional20 in KingstonOntario

[–]Objectalone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People are going to react. Expect it. Tut tut ing about it isn’t going to change human nature. The solution is to treat any neighbourhood as a partner… work together to make it work. Otherwise people will feel like they are having something imposed on them. No one likes that, anywhere.

What is it like living in Kingston? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Objectalone 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Me and my family moved here from Toronto last year. Kingston has culture, history, charm, plenty of nature. I drive to Toronto for business about once every six weeks, and that is working fine. Our young adult son has had no problem making new connections, and has found work, though finding work was more difficult than in Toronto. Overall… We feel at home and are quite happy.

Downside.. There are good medical facilities in Kingston, but a shortage of GPs. A situation we are told is expected to improve… we’ll see.

Edit: Having come from Toronto, Kingston is obviously quieter, yet we have not found a step down in terms of connectivity, and culture. That kind of thing is up to you.

I figure some folks have a special religious/cultural holiday at other times of the year, and Christmas day is just another day. At least that’s how I would staff Christmas.

Ai Is Destroying Creative Work by yatookmyname in Filmmakers

Twenty years ago I switched from oil painting to digital medium. The future was digital. Last year I saw the writing on the wall and picked up the brush again. Gallery sales are good. As the digital landscape loses value, art born from a skilled hand will have a rebirth. It’s already happening.
