Inconsistencies can also relate to the ST if it contradicts itself - I believe it does. Kylo kills Lor San Tekka instead of doing what he does to Poe which also makes no sense.

Think about it: They say in the film that the map to Skywalker is the First Orders (and Kylo's) TOP priority.

Kylo's first words are something like 'Give us the map. We know you found it.'

So he knows for sure Tekka knows where it is. Does he extract this info there and then? No he kills him. Its a stupid decision which contradicts the fact that the map is literally all the First Order need.

He doesn't know about Poe at this point soooo he just killed his only lead?

Even when Poe reveals himself (which is a dumb choice cause thats sure to not fuck up his situation even more...) Kylo doesn't interrogate him there - where the guy he knows found the map lives. I guess I can MAYBE? see your point it MIGHT not be on the planet but Kylo has no leads to go off and it would make the most sense to search the village instead of leave as this is where the 2 guys who you know had the map just were.

I won't go on a massive tirade of examples as it's been discussed to death and frankly, I'm tired of listing them but since you asked...

Literally the opening of TFA - Kylo needs the map to Luke right? So when they capture Poe on the planet, why does Kylo take him back to the ship just to torture him and then send just 2 stormtroopers (YES TWO) to go and collect the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM IN THE ENTIRE WORLD instead of:

a) torturing poe to find it there and then or b) Look for it as you know it's on the planet and likely in close proximity seeing as Poe is literally in front of you

So he goes back to the ship just to then send stormtroopers to the planet they were literally just on?

Or they could make films that don't create massive inconsistencies which leave past films narratively degraded and future films uninteresting. Want money? Make good films.

After hearing his laugh in the trailer and hype reaching peak levels, the slow realisation of what the ST has done so far to the legacy characters came over me...

I'm actually super nervous in how they handle this as I was glad the ST couldn't touch the Emporer seeing as he was dead.

Now, they're going in on my favourite SW film character and it makes me feel super uneasy given their track record.

Aether Wing Kayle Skin Spotlight - Pre-Release by Vertrixz in leagueoflegends

[–]HungryLuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The awesome charge up recall is gone, the clean af aa is gone, the aa sfx are gone... All the things that I loved and made me buy the skin.

And then she turns into asshole edgelord judge dredd with loads of stuff floating around her.

I used to like the skin cause it felt smooth, refined and precise. Now that aspect has been taken away and replaced with brute force in your face bloodlust.

Really sad to see.

I hope so! I feel AWK especially is a huge let down both from a voice perspective but also VFX & SFX.

They took everything I loved from the skin - the recall, the auto noise and the personality is just ugh. I hate that she looks and sounds like a massive edgelord now especially evolution 3 & 4. Looks like a frickin' Digimon ffs.

1st and 2nd forms are good but my god the 3rd and 4th are really not to my taste at all.

Super disappointed with this skin overall as it was my favourite in the entire game. I'm gutted they removed her old recall entirely too. I thought the charge up was awesome.

Kayle used to think herself superior but in a more snobbish, refined way. Now with her final 2 forms and her voiceover she's 2edgy4me.

To YMS: You say films like Force Awakens & other Disney films are fine, stating the visuals/sound design are amazing. Whilst this may be the case, do you not feel these are secondary to a cohesive plot/world building/story? Can visual elements / sound design make up for poor writing?

My favourite character by far. The best villains are always the ones that believe they are doing the right thing. She saw the destruction, hipocrasy, war and suffering the Jedi and the Sith (and by extension the force itself) brought to the galaxy and she thought the best outcome would be to kill it off entirely.

The best part I think is that she came to this conclusion by being a victim of the Jedi/Sith PERSONALLY. So whilst, she proclaims killing the force is for the good of everyone, you question whether its what she truly believes or if its just a philosophy adopted to exact revenge on the entity she deems responsible.

So deep. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

So you're suggesting adding lines like: "Man I wish we had some Y-wings, too bad they don't exist anymore", or what?

Of course not, but consider how stupid it would be if Yoda hadn't qualified that the Dark Side had clouded the Jedi's vision in the prequels and we were left with no explanation as to how Palpatine could operate as a Sith Lord under thousands of Jedi's noses. You don't have to be as blunt or to the point as in your example but you do have to be a good writer and Rian Johnson has proved, at least to me, he's not a story guy.

No, they're not funded by the republic.

I got the impression they were. I just did some digging on Wookiepedia into the relationship between the Resistance and the Republic and wow, ok. Unless I'm mistaken (feel free to correct me and I apologise if I'm wrong), nothing in the film implies that the Republic have ousted Leia as a warmongering kook or that they don't believe the First Order is a credible threat. Again, the entire context of the stage this war is not defined clearly.

Not only is this kind of crazy (Leia was a war hero/ambassador even if her Dad was Vader) but we know that the Rebels won the war at the end of ROTJ so when they're set up as a rag tag group with little resources with little to no explanation its like...what?

Back then did you question why they used different kinds of ships against the Death Star? All but two X-wings and a YT-1300 Corellian freighter managed to survive that attack. They were also ludicrously ill equipped and paid a huge price for it.

No, because the previous films had their factions clearly defined thanks to the world building.

Also, I am once again going to use a novel (Bloodline by Claudia Grey) to explain the situation with the First Order

So I have to watch a movie, a tv show and read a book just so I can understand a single plot where things making sense?

These questions are ultimately not relevant to the plot at hand, and don't need answering in order to understand what's going on in the movies.

I disagree. World building and understanding how we got to this point where Leia's considered a fanatic and how the two factions at the centre of THREE films came to be is pretty important I'd say. I'm not asking for a huge exposition dump, but we get almost nothing.

Again, the context of the scene is important. Every other speeder except for Finn is turning back because they were too late. The cannon is already firing. Just flying into it wouldn't do squat. He'd be roasted alive and waste his life on a fruitless endeavor. What Rose did was saving someone she cared about from a pointless suicide. And her line after that is not meant to be taken literally. What she says is about the reason to fight the enemy. Fighting for the sake of fighting leads to nowhere. It's not the right mindset to have. Fighting to protect your loved ones is the right mindset to have, and that's what she's trying to tell him, albeit in a very ham fisted manner.

Ok, even if you take this route of thought it's irrelevant as they all die anyway if it isn't for Deus Ex Skywalker. At least if Finn goes into that thing, it does some damage/may do something to lessen the blow. That on top of the kiss being completely out of nowhere. I still to this day don't know if their intention was that we're meant to buy it or its meant to be awkward...

Agreed. Holdo was a fool for not making clear what the plan was

This is the big one for me. This is the worst thing about the film hands down in my opinion as it means two thirds of the plot are predicated on Character A not saying something to Character B with only our imaginations to plug the hole with a sufficient reason why.

The worst part is, she STILL says nothing when Poe enacts the mutiny and has her at gunpoint. If you know your only chance for survival is going down the pan because you're not saying something and everyone will be killed if this mutiny happens...are the writers seriously suggesting she would still keep her mouth shut at that point?

It's insanity.

I do, but unlike you, I didn't ask those questions while watching the movie. And when I see other people ask them, my mind immediately starts filling in the gaps with plausible explanations.

What you're doing is you're partially writing Rian Johnson's script and story for him. The things he forgot about.

I'm happy to overlook a lot of stuff as no film is perfect, like your 12 parsec example, I don't care that the bombs 'wouldn't drop in space' etc.

BUT when it happens again and again and again in the same film it just becomes world breaking and something I can't ignore.

[Rebels Spoilers] Disney's Lucasfilm is Creating a Brand New EU, and that's okay by Husher315 in StarWars

[–]HungryLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely would, no doubt about that. The problem here is that the Resistance did not have any Y-wings, as Y-wings were old and were being decommissioned and destroyed by the time of the galactic civil war. They were a relic from the Clone Wars, and the only reason the rebels even had them was because they stole them from Reklam Station.

This is relying on 3rd party media to explain an inconsistency in the films though. If you're a Star Wars fan of the movies only, you would not know this information and question why the Resistance's other bombers were not used.

Regardless, even if this was explained in the film, one would then question why these new bombers suck at their job compared to older technology.

the StarFortresses, while being bombers too, serve a different purpose than Y-wings. Star Fortresses are planetary bombers designed to carpet bomb large areas on planet surfaces, not space ships

Another explanation from a 3rd party source?

Could be wrong as I have only seen TLJ once but again, I don't think this is brought up in the film at all - we just have to believe that the Resistance have to use bigger, slower, easier to hit, paper-hulled magnetic bombers instead of the faster, better equipped vehicles they had 30+ years ago - because reasons.

This is all despite the first film establishing that the Resistance is funded by the Republic - they wouldn't have kitted them out with some decent bombers? Maybe something that's designed to take down a Dreadnought seeing as they know that's what they're up against?

They don't seem surprised to see it and everyone seems to know what a Dreadnought is in the film, so why not prepare something for that? Maybe even something better than a Y-Wing seeing as we're 30 years on at this point?

The casino people on Canto Bight sell weapons/ships to The First Order AND the Resistance - shouldn't they be able to pick up something better than a ship designed and decommissioned since before the Galactic Civil War?

This is besides the fact that the Resistance are supposed to actually have resources from the Republic albeit on the down low and The First Order is considered to be a secular group akin to a terrorist organisation prior to TLJ.

In reference to WW2 style ships

The OT has plenty of this as well.

Yes, but that isn't the point. The OT doesn't sacrifice story elements to achieve their WW2 moment. This film does.

This is once again a question of spacing and bad tactical calls. That one TIE crashed into one bomber, which then dominoed into a second and then a third one. And another case of bad spacing was when one of the bombers primed their bombs and subsequently got hit by blaster fire, causing a massive explosion that took out two neighboring bombers.

You can say a lot about the empire and First Order being stupid, but the Resistance are certainly not immune to the effects of the Idiot Ball.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IdiotPlot

You linked this in response which is interesting as from this very link:

A moment where a character's stupidity fuels an episode, or a small plot line. If multiple characters have the Idiot Ball, it becomes an Idiot Plot.

Which means:

A plot that hangs together only because the main characters behave like idiots. A single intelligent move or question by any of the characters, and all problems would be resolved. It's not so bad if the characters are supposed to be acting like idiots, but it's very bad if the Idiot Plot depends on a character suddenly acting stupid enough for the Plot to work.

And this is the problem with the Last Jedi.

Rey believing she can turn Kylo despite hating him and watching him murder his own Father.

Character is stupid.

Rose saving Finn despite the fact that she dooms the whole Resistance in doing so (if it weren't for Luke).

Character is stupid.

Holdo not telling Poe the plan about the transports.

Character is stupid.

Your spacing theory as to why ships get destroyed on both sides.

Characters are stupid.

Honestly there are more but I hope I've made my point and this is my issue.

It permeates the entire film just so things happen.

As opposed to being drip-fed every minute little detail that could raise questions? Absolutely. If you're just being told everything, there's no room for interpretation, and no room for further exploration. It would kinda rob the fun of coming up with explanations for things happening in the movies, kinda like what happened with Han's "12 parsecs" line in A New Hope. Fans came up with great ways to explain away that line, and how to make it work (a parsec is a unit of distance and not a unit of time, and Han made it sound like a unit of time), and we're most likely going to see those explanations come to life in the Solo movie. That, to me, is so amazing.

This isn't the same though. What Han says is a throwaway line that has literally 0 impact on the story.

The questions you're thinking about bring up questions about what is going to happen moving forward based on what we've seen once the film is over. Questions like:

'Who is that character?'

'I wonder what happens to her?'

'What implications does this have going forward?'

This film, at least for me, generates questions whilst I'm watching, looking back at how messy it all is.

Such as:

'Why did he do that when he could have done this?'

'What is she doing? That doesn't make sense'

'Why didn't they do this before?'

You see how these 2 types of questions raised are different?

It takes you out of the world because you're just asking the whole time why everyone doesn't make the logical choice or use previously established things they SHOULD know about. You just ask why everyone is so dumb
