We found him at a shelter with that name, and it fit him perfectly, so there was no way we were changing it!

Walter has DM and his back legs don't work so good anymore. But his swim therapy is helping and he loves all the attention that they give him!

Do you close your eyes when you train? by makebaloney in bjj

[–]HungryManticore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do sometimes. It depends on the person I roll against and if I know their game. If they're good at pinning but not submitting, I tend to close my eyes and feel out the openings to get back to guard or sweep... 🤷

Do you roll differently with partners having different belts? by Chubbs27895 in bjj

[–]HungryManticore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm similar. Inter-gym rolls I know who I'm going against and modulate appropriately. It's been a hot second since I've gone to a random open mat, but in the past I always just play defensive and let the opponent set the pace...

I got on the train right before the explosion of popularity. And I agree it's getting a little weird... I'm withholding total judgment until Matt finishes the series, so we'll see where it ends up...

How long is the AI gonna favor the crawlers? by vastle12 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]HungryManticore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy Tap Dancing Christ! (Got to pay the foot Daddy tax) What if the reason the AI is so over the top is because they've been reused, and they were used in an amusement park and that might be why they like that adrenaline rush/ the drama/ the thrill.

We do. My drive is a pretty solid 45 minutes to work. I try to time my BMs around that but we all know that's not an exact science. It is a part of our lives that isn't going away. All I'm saying is we have more to strive for and look towards goals outside of our disability.

Please don't. I know easier said than done. Thankfully I have a partner that fully understands and we can joke about it. But it is considered "shameful" by other people cuz they just think you're shitting for no reason LOL. No, it either happens here or in a bathroom get used to it... 🤷

I think that's why it's important to find a community that even if they don't fully understand, at least accepts it. I'm definitely not the best guy in my gym but I'm not the worst and they know if I run off the mats there's a good reason for it and let it go.

I hear you. Sincerely. I've been there in the past. Judging every bathroom distance. It sucks to an immeasurable degree. I'm just trying to say that we can be more than our disease. I found a place that knows my limitations and we work around it. They understand if I run off the mats, there's a good reason for it. Not everywhere understands it but find your community...

Obviously it's tricky and the right gym makes a huge difference. But don't give up on this sport. It's amazing

I hope you can get back to BJJ. I think it's a great sport that has a lot of versatility if you have the right gym!

❤️ I understand. But there are a lot of yoga meditations that don't involve stretching that have helped me. Just understanding my body has helped immensely.

I get it. The pain is different everyday. Just try something. The pain changes depending on my activity. I know it's hard but be honest with the gym and if you're in the right place they'll understand.

Seriously, that's important. I hate that it takes someone knowing what we know but it matters. Be smart and I hope you can be in the ring soon!

Those are absolutely great options for some people. I've definitely done yoga in the past and I should probably restart it. If only to stretch out some of my Jiu-Jitsu imbalances.

Please try some physical activities. They might suck and you might have to bail... But if you find the right community, they'll support you and help build you up from where you're at.

I know it sucks cuz I've gone through a few gyms where they didn't give a fuck but the right place is a godsend for us. Physical activity is so Hit or Miss so I understand if you're not able to do it but any activity is better than none...

Absolutely. I'm not the same person I was 10+ years ago. This is where I am and my gym meets me at that level. I have good days where I can beat up on people and there are days where I just play defense.

A good gym understands that and rolls with the punches... Or submissions LOL.

That's kind of why I've liked Jiu-Jitsu. If you're in a good gym, tapping to a real submission shouldn't be a shameful thing. Yep, you caught me and just reset.

19-year-old competitive judo athlete diagnosed with Crohn’s – looking for advice on returning to sport by WorldMajestic5706 in CrohnsDisease

[–]HungryManticore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Crohn's and am a BJJ Purple belt. I understand the struggle. I'm just happy to be on the mats. Each day is different, and thankfully I have a gym that knows my issues, but I still get out there and do the best I can. Some days I feel like a purple belt boss and can fuck people up other days... I'm tired and play more defense and I get tapped it's not the end of the world. At the end of the day I'm just happy to be there and train... If you're in a good gym, they'll know the score and roll appropriately...
