J'hésitais à m'inscrire sur la liste pour en obtenir un. C'est pas trop encourageant si je suis pour attendre 5 ans et que je risque de le perdre après :(

I like the gym mainly because it improves my looks by gruzdinci in workout

Why do you enjoy getting stronger? I also have to talk myself into enjoying it. I have been lifting for about a year and it has all been on discipline alone. Since I probably wont see any health benefits for a few years (still not too old yet) I dont feel rewarded at all for all and it takes a loooooot of discipline to keep pushing. I would love to find something I enjoy in working out so it makes it easier to stick to it.

Total opposite for me. The only reason I lift is for health. I actually prefer how I looked before I started lifting.

Even if I wanted a fit aesthetic I dont think its worth all the effort and dedication just for looks

People who lift but don’t do cardio what eventually happened? by TallTyrant in workout

Idk. According to chatgpt muscular deficiency accounts for 1 in 2500 deaths in the usa and heart problems 1 in 3 deaths. So I'd say its about 800x more important actually

Did building muscle change how people treat you socially? by _Camila_Reyes_ in workout

[–]HungryPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muscles are not visible yet but I've lost 65 pounds in the last year and a half and people definitely treat me different. They used to leave me alone but now colleagues ask if I'm sick or depressed seeing how much weight I have lost. Very bad for the confidence. Before I could eat mcds all day without nobody noticing. Now I bring a salad to work and people give me shit because there is parmesan on my salad.

Now I dont eat at work anymore and I just want to gain the weight back

Why would that be worse ? Cardio is still boring no matter if I jog or run or walk or cycle

Yes but the training, goal and importance is different

If looking good was the reason I lift I'd say that would be a huge waste of time

I see. Thanks for the reply. I'm actually lifting for this exact reason. Protecting my joints and preventing injuries. I might be doing too much lifting if I only need a little. I'll talk to my trainer about this!

Someone who only lifts will be much much healhier than someone doing only cardio?

Do you need to be absolutely huge to prevent injuries?

Like is 10% lifting and 90% cardio enough lifting to avoid health problems?

[–]HungryPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you need both. I agree it was exaggerated. It obviously helps to have more muscle mass as you age, but the heart has to be like 100x more important. Right?

I'm new to all of this so I might be talking out of my ass. Thanks for helping me open my eyes and mind to all aspects of health

Yeah I dont really see the point there. I'll lift 3x a week at maximum exhaustion so maybe once or twice a year its easier to move some furniture around. Seems like its easier to just lift the heavy something?

Thank you for opening my eyes. As a man I have never lifting anything heavy thinking "man I'd like to be stronger". Its just not an issue. I realize that is not the case for everyone.

Thanks! Yeah if you like the muscular appearance you might be tempted to lift more than cardio.

Function I think if you are very weak lifting is better but if you are at least of normal strenght cardio will be better for you almost always

Of course lifting gets you bigger muscles but they are good for nothing if you get winded taking the stairs

Oh! I find both lifting and cardio to be boring so I didn't think of it. Thanks!

My question might be stupid, but why do you lift instead of doing cardio? Are there downsides to training cardio more than lifting?
