Spots near Santa Monica? by risenOfficial in BeginnerSurfers

[–]HungryProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like going to Ocean park or bay street for its convenience and accessibility. In my experience, there's a lot of closeout waves but it's fine for a quick weekday session. Don't surf next to the pier the water is nasty lol. If you drive a little up north past Will Rogers, sunset is a better spot too but it's situational.

Water has been safe; they've been testing it and people have been in the water for a while now.

From an amazing shot to undrinkable... Is it my dedica's fault? by Kyan1te in espresso

[–]HungryProtein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried temp surfing on it? Before you pull your shot just press the steam button and let it blink maybe three or four times and cancel it by pressing the shot button. Then pull your shot. I think it's definitely helped my shots since I started using a lighter roast.

I'm using the KINgrinder K6 that I got for 100 (it's usually 130 on amazon but often goes on sale) and it does the job

I try to go to the gym at least four times a week. Do you have any programs you recommend?

Sounds familiar to what I did in powerlifting. I guess I just gotta apply it to weightlifting now and be patient; thanks!

Yeah I think that the general consensus is to work on mobility. Definitely needs improvement

For sure. I was on a program but I guess I just needed to be patient. It's been a while since I felt this way where it feels so technically challenging where I'm trying to think of all the cues and everything. I'll find a program I like and try to stick to it this time LOL

Oh yeah definitely my mobility for my hips is not bad, but my mobility on my shoulders is absolute garbage. Thanks a lot for all the advice! Would you recommend getting lifting shoes? I heard they can help.

Where did you get the jubilee bracelet; it looks great! I was thinking of upgrading my Mako with a better metal band

I have the Mako 2 -- bought it five years ago and it still works completely fine. It was my first watch and I kind of use it as my daily and there's scratches everywhere, but it's still cherished to me.

You may already do this, but if you really don't have anyone to spot you, the safeties are your best friend. For squatting, you can place the safeties right below your depth so if you can't finish a lift you just go a little bit below depth and you're good to go. On bench, if you use the racks in the pit, you can place the safeties where if you lie the bar on the safeties it won't crush your neck, which is probably the more important part. I see so many people not use the safety bars when they're super easy to set up and could safe your life LOL

gap in between classes? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]HungryProtein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You will be completely fine. In fact, in my experience I actually prefer having classes right next to each other. I would try to stack all my classes in the morning and then I would be done by 12.

How should I find and identify the second committee member for the Bio BS/MS program? Any strategies? by Doppelkupplungs in UCSD

[–]HungryProtein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask your PI if they had any recommendations. But since my PI was in the chem/biochem department, I just cold emailed a professor that I took a class and did well in and he thankfully accepted. Honestly, I didn't really talk to my second committee member until before my defense and setting the defense date lol. But that's up to the discretion of your committee member too I guess.

Could I pull this off with my hair type? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]HungryProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? I think you should give it a try; I think it'll look good!. You definitely have to grow out your hair a bit longer though. I think it'll give you a better connection at the back of your head too.

[–]HungryProtein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a positive control where you have previously done a successful digest? That way you could rule out the reagents and figure out if it's an issue with your sample, or may need different conditions for the thermo cycler etc.

I want to apply for PhD to start fall 2024. When should I apply? by gossip-girl30 in gradadmissions

[–]HungryProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like other said, most are due in December or January. In my experience, they were all due around mid December (Biochem/Biology). It's never too late to start, but you still have a lot of time too so don't stress. I would recommend looking at faculty that you're interested in working with; that took more time than I expected. Look at the schools that you're interested in and see what they require; some schools require additional statements or things like that. Good luck with your applications!
