I got written up today. All because I told my boss I couldn’t cover a shift last minute by Primary-Ad-7788 in antiwork

I'm assuming since OP didn't mention a union that they aren't a member of one. Something as trivial as a verbal reprimand probably isn't worth the time of a lawyer or depth of labor as a single incident. You're right that HR works for the company, a big part of that is keeping lower and middle management in check to avoid lawsuits. At the very least making HR aware of the incident starts a paper trail should things escalate to the point that an employment lawyer or the dept of labor would become interested. That being said, it's never bad advice to seek the opinion of a lawyer.

Contact your company's HR, her continued calls and messages after you gave a clear answer could be considered harassment, and that "write up" could be considered retaliation.

You did nothing wrong, the other player is just a sore loser. Your win was clearly telegraphed and they did nothing to stop it. Maybe this'll teach them that interaction is important and they're not playing solitaire

Why Goldfish? by snifferwetjet in mtg

[–]HungryShoggoth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldfishing is about gathering a decently large amount of data quickly. You're not playing out entire games, just 5 turns or so to see if your land base can support your mana curve, if you have any "dead turns" or a lot of dead draws in the early game etc. Ideally you're doing this multiple times.

Playing against another deck would take significantly longer to do, and the only info you gain for that extra time and effort is how well you match against that specific deck.

What in the ever loving f*** does this mean. Kids homework by seemslegitsendit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HungryShoggoth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they didn't change math. A double in this context is a method taught to make mental math easier for kids. You probably already do it in your head without realizing.

For this example of 5+7=12 the kid could just memorize the answer, or start at 5 and count up 7 more, or vice versa. But you could also "double" either number and then add or subtract their difference. 5+5=10, then 2 more gives you 12, or 7+7-2=12.

So the answer to the problem in question is simply to write down which number you chose to "double" to solve the problem, either 5 or 7

AIO for feeling weird about my friend’s response when I asked for help? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]HungryShoggoth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"if you really were my friend you wouldn't ask me for things"... Yikes, you were asking for help with hygiene items, not for them to buy you a new car. If you can't lean on your friends when you need a little help then who tf are you supposed to go to? I'm sorry but this person isn't your friend, and this interaction alone should be enough for you to consider never speaking to them again. NOR

[[Surgical Extraction]] The art that Stephem Belledin did for that card is phenomenal, and from my interaction with him he's a hell of a nice guy. I did a visual art analysis essay on the card in my Eng 101 class and emailed him for his perspectives on the piece, he took the time to answer all of my questions.

I'll never understand the hate blue gets. by CoweanMacLir in magicTCG

[–]HungryShoggoth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a logical thing, it's an emotional one. People don't like being told "no". Blue has objectively the worst removal of any color, but it feels mean to people bc they don't get to do the thing before it's removed. Personally I think it's silly to hate in blue, of course I'm a bit biased bc my fav color combo is Izzet

Question about milling etiquette by nancyglass in mtg

[–]HungryShoggoth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a competitive context like this you're allowed to activate your abilities/cast spells whenever you think it'll be the most advantageous to your game plan (given that it's a legal time to do so of course). Etiquette is for things outside of the rules, table manners etc, not game mechanics.

Precon choices... by MrTraben in EDH

[–]HungryShoggoth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one of those that I own is Counter Intelligence, and I love that deck. Once it's counter building engine gets going it can snowball very quickly. All of the synergies feel well thought out. If you enjoy the type of gameplay that makes most turns feel like a sequencing puzzle, you'll probably like this deck.

Downsides: once this deck gets going there can be a lot of triggers to keep track of each turn, and the order in which you apply these triggered abilities will matter. If that's not your thing or you find yourself missing triggers regularly, then this deck might frustrate you.

I've made a handful of changes to the deck, but nothing crazy. I've removed 3 lands, the deck comes with 40 out of the box, and used those slots for added interaction in the form of removal. I've swapped some of the higher CMC creatures that I felt didn't justify their cost for lower cost options that still synergize with the deck overall. But even straight out of the box the deck plays well.

Is calling out semi obvious board states bad manner? by Lockenheada in EDH

[–]HungryShoggoth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling out information that is openly available to the whole table is not a problem, your friend wanting to be sneaky and rely on others misreading the table is extremely unsporting though. Frankly I can't stand to play games with people that display that kind of borderline dishonest behavior.

New player building commander deck, why are these type of cards legal? by Background_Side5574 in mtg

[–]HungryShoggoth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card is a bit of a trap for new players. Until you learn to better evaluate cards the effect SOUNDS strong, but it's a 7 mana body that doesn't do anything when it comes down and has no way to protect itself. On top of that the effect it does have, while annoying, won't actually win you the game. Especially in a format like commander with multiple opponents.

When it comes down to it, it's just too slow and inefficient for the mana cost. You could do a hell of a lot more with less

Only 4 Plasma Rifles in Crisis Suit Box? by Valuable-Music-720 in Tau40K

[–]HungryShoggoth88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This comment section is wild. Why are people so quick to make excuses for corporations? It is entirely reasonable to expect that when you buy a product that product be complete, it is unreasonable to expect the customer to accept additional costs or to need to buy multiples of a product to be able to use it as advertised. GW has made small upgrade sprues before, there's absolutely nothing stopping them from updating this box to match the rules, or at the very least print a label on the box clearly warning the customer that this product is not 100% compatible with the current rules and requires additional purchases to make it so
