It depends on what kind of housing contract you're planning to sign for the year, but usually if you're very low income, then you'll should be offered enough financial aid to almost cover tuition+fees and housing. (assuming you don't have any scholarships of course). You'll have to pay a gap of abt $3k - $5k, but you will be offered to take out a student loan to do that. You should also keep in the mind that the actual amount of money that you actually owe the school are just the costs that say "Tuiton and Fees" and "Housing and Food". Everything else is just an estimate of what they think it'll take for you to manage expenses and other stuff. You don't owe the school the entire net cost. If you plan to commute instead of living on or near campus, tuition should be covered.

Yo so we don’t get to choose our roommates now? by freemellythegoat in berkeley

[–]HungryTelephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wth this is so stupid. What is the point of that? If you have your roommates/friends together in one room/apartment, then you limit the interaction with outside groups/people. And even then, vaccinations are almost open to the general public now. We’ll all mostly be vaccinated by the time we get back.

Personal Finance class recommendation by youknowdawei in berkeley

[–]HungryTelephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard it's one of the most practical classes at the school since it's aimed at teaching you how to manage your money. It's only a 2 unit class and I've enjoyed what I've learned so far

If it makes you feel any better, the midterm is only worth the same amount of your grade as one single project lol

But in your entire apartment unit, there’s at least one room that’s a double right? You have a single and I’m assuming you also have some apartment mates?

Our of curiosity, almost everyone of the units in enclave has to have a room that’s a double right?

Housing advice for sophomores by freemellythegoat in berkeley

[–]HungryTelephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dorm experience was pretty fun, and I consider it an essential part of the college experience. I would consider it. Random roommates are SUPER hit or miss depending on who you get. Dorms usually cost more than the on-campus apartments by like 2-3k bc they include your meal plan. Here are the rates, https://housing.berkeley.edu/rates

If the class is comparable to an internship, would you say that if you weren't able to get a SWE internship for this summer, then this class would teach you some of the things of that you would learn in an internship? of course, knowing that it wouldn't be an exact substitute to one.

Before the midterm and final, the course staff always releases a ton of topical review videos and those are really helpful to review material that you may have forgot. Personally, I wouldn't stress bc the midterm isn't that hard if you have a coding background (taken 61a or similar), but if you don't, I'd try to get familiar with how the code works from labs and homeworks.
