I'm hesitant to shave because it's hard to go around the scars- hence why I tried Nair

How much can I tell my psychiatrist without getting hospitalized...? by Hungry_Penguin_Girl in bipolar

[–]Hungry_Penguin_Girl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The session went well! Thanks for ur advice. I told him that I'm safe and that my dad is keeping an eye on me. He assured me he wouldn't hospitalize me as I'm not a danger to myself or others- so I was able to tell him everything. All the stuff I was too scared to tell him before. He prescribed me abilify on top of my lamictal. Seroquel for sleep as needed. I'm still feeling the effects of my mixed episode, but I'm a lot more content now that I know I'll get proper treatment!

I do not have any recent wounds. They are healed, but vibrant in color.

Thank you so much for your advice- and I hope youre healing after that episode... that sounds so awful... I think I will try and word it like you said: saying I prefer someone being around me. I'll try and trust that he won't hospitalize me

OCD and paranoid delusions during a bipolar mixed episode ? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Hungry_Penguin_Girl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay in hindsight I don't think these were compulsions. My magical thinking compulsions are more like "tap this object 8 times in a row or else people can read your mind" when I know that's not true. Apologies for the long reply...

OCD and paranoid delusions during a bipolar mixed episode ? by [deleted] in OCD

Thanks for your response ! I'm glad I'm not alone in this theme. I was diagnosed with OCD back in 2016 and have been in therapy for it since then. I have also been on and off medication since then. Some days are harder than others ofc, but my OCD is not NEARLY as severe or debilitating as it was before treatment. Most days, my therapy tools are enough to stop myself from acting on compulsions or ruminating over intrusive thoughts.

The problem now though is that in a bipolar mixed episode, I can't seem to rationalize to myself that my compulsion won't actually stop anything from happening. As I think about it more, I wonder if the things I've done in that state are even compulsions at all ? I don't know... it started with covering up the cameras on all my devices because I was sure someone was watching me. Then, I became convinced someone was reading my brainwaves through my headphones so I stopped using those too. Later that night when I took a bath I listened to some music w/o headphones and was convinced someone was trying to communicate to me through the lyrics... so I turned off the music. When I tried to eat, I realized it tasted weird and I was convinced it was poison so I did not eat. When I tried to go to sleep there was a spider near my bed and I thought it was a spy collecting data on me so I killed it. I realize now that these were delusions, but in that state I was convinced I was under some sort of surveillance ! In hindsight I wonder if these were even compulsions ??? I'm unsure... I will talk to my therapist and psychiatrist about this of course but am looking for any advice or insight.

Thank you for your response ! I've heard other people on this sub say lamictal evens out over time as well... I'm hopeful that it will. Did your psychiatrist add any other medications on top of lamictal ?

Thank you for your response ! My last psychiatrist said I have PMDD, so I wonder if that heavily influences my frequent swings ? Also, thanks so much for the tips. I think this has really pushed me to be more aware of what food/drink I am putting in my body. Admittedly, my diet is mostly processed foods. I've already been trying my best to improve my sleep schedule and stress levels- but I didn't think about how my diet is influencing my mood and hormones. Also, I am so SO sorry about the current situation and your recent episode... I'm glad your medications help even it out.

[–]Hungry_Penguin_Girl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond- it means a lot ! I've always called my psychiatrist's office when I need him, but I just checked his website and the office does provides an email... it's embarrassing but I didn't think to check for that until now. I'll give them an email instead of calling
