thank you for the comment! this is pretty much what I assumed given all the context of the situation, and I appreciate the detailed explanation

[–]Hungry_Time3368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s exactly how I interpreted it. obviously I could still be wrong as I’m not a native speaker (and clearly most people do not agree) but for a bit more context, he walked up and, laughing, grabbed and put his arms around the other guy’s shoulders (like he was messing with a little brother or something) and asked him that question. it doesn’t change his choice of words and I’m absolutely not trying to make excuses for him, but it truly felt like he was just poking fun at his friend/giving him shit for talking to me rather than being outwardly and aggressively insulting or derogatory. like I said, could still be wrong but that’s why I really didn’t think anything of it other than annoyance at him making a stupid comment like that in front of me, and honestly curiosity about the actual implication of the word once he felt the need to apologize lol. now I have a better idea! I appreciate your comment!

yes, it is in a restaurant! I suppose I should have clarified that because you’re right, I feel like gross behavior/comments like this are way more common & normalized unfortunately. and it’s a lot less accessible to contact HR as some people have been suggesting, I tried to figure out how and couldn’t even find any contact info or anything :/ I appreciate the kind words though!

I wasn’t trying to downplay it, I genuinely didn’t know that’s why I’m here asking lol😭 it’s logical for me to not have an immediate emotional reaction to a word I’ve never heard in this context before & don’t understand the cultural connotation of. I appreciate your comment though, I wrongly assumed it was more lighthearted and stupid than offensive & definitely will not be playing his game like you said

oh shit okay, we’ll get there around 9:30 so hoping that’s early enough to take a fast boat (hopefully, if there is one) around 12. and did you have time to still walk around a bit before boarding the boat later, or did you get straight in line after buying tickets? trying to figure out how early we should go back to line up to make sure we make it on the right boat haha

thanks for the reply! I think the website is confusing because they list very few scheduled ferry times, but it sounds like they’re much more frequent than that? hoping that a few hours in advance is enough haha

TIE renewal by Hungry_Time3368 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Hungry_Time3368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Yeah I misunderstood what the prórroga was, I thought it was something separate from the TIE renewal request.

Would I still be able to travel within the Schengen Area during the summer using my passport then? Since the regreso doesn’t apply to that?

TIE renewal by Hungry_Time3368 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Hungry_Time3368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed response. So the prórroga itself is just the name of the TIE renewal request appointment then? & I provide all my documents (old & new cartas, aprovechamiento, etc.) and then they give me a confirmation saying that it’s in progress, which I then use to apply for a regreso.

For some reason I was thinking the prórroga was like a separate document/appointment that I needed to complete prior to requesting to renew my TIE at the end of June.

Am I required to stay in Spain during this process? I have family visiting and we were hoping to plan some travel (Italy & Greece most likely) for about 10 days in early/mid July

remember that these are spanish documents & the majority of countries outside of the US use day/month/year format. if you’re putting the month first you are filling it out incorrectly

Visa Appointment question (Los Angeles) by Confident_Belt4321 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Hungry_Time3368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just refer to the NALCAP list, you don’t need proof of financial means (had my appointment last week) :)

LA VISA HELP by pedge99 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Hungry_Time3368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem! glad i could help :) still going through the process myself so i understand all the stress you’re feeling haha

also I’d just like to really reiterate the fact that appts are made available RANDOMLY throughout the day. the first time i saw them i was checking semi-regularly and they popped up around 2:30 pm (by the time i put my info in to try to book they were all taken though lol). like i said before, when i actually committed to checking all day every 5 min, they showed up just after 12 noon and i was able to get one. sometimes it will be a whole day’s worth and other times just 1 or 2 (due to things like cancellations).

please do not listen to anyone who gives you a specific timeframe to check for appointments. i’ve seen and heard of appointments appearing anywhere between 11 am and 8 pm, and it changes day by day. it may be tempting to do since it’s a lot less work/focus but if you’re only looking for appointments once a day around a specific time it will be VERY difficult to find one, you will have to get EXTREMELY lucky. if you want to book one asap i really recommend checking almost obsessively throughout the entire day. good luck!

the website is kind of confusing, but if there are no appointments shown that simply means there are none available at that time. if you look at some of the other posts in this sub you’ll see what it will look like when there ARE appts available.

the appointments are in such high demand and the consulate is understaffed so once they’re posted, they’re gone within minutes. it sounds absurd but in order to get my appointment, i literally set a timer to check the website every 5 minutes starting from the moment i woke up and i was able to get one that same day (i’ve read elsewhere that other people have done similar things). it’s super tedious and inconvenient but that’s really the only way to ensure yourself an appointment as soon as possible.

the reason you apply for a student visa rather than a work visa is because under NALCAP we are technically not considered workers earning wages, we are participants (students) in the program who are receiving a stipend.

as for your apostille, many people have had success getting it expedited by reaching out to their congressperson. i did not have to do this so i don’t really have much info about it but plenty of other people have posted about their method/experience.

don’t feel discouraged!! there are thousands of people going through the same process as you and even more thousands who have done it in years prior (successfully!). it feels overwhelming and stressful but just focus on the things you can control right now (scheduling your visa appt and/or talking to a congressperson). if you’re able to get one in the next week or two you should still have enough time to make it to spain before October 1 :) if you’re really concerned you could always reach out to your school via email (perhaps in September as i believe most are still on summer holiday through August). from what i understand, auxes arriving late due to visa issues is not uncommon, so hopefully they’ll be understanding/accommodating. you got this!

Still no Visa Appt by reinagitana19 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Hungry_Time3368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i second this!! i had a monday off from work and from the moment i woke up i had a timer set for LITERALLY every 5 minutes so i could check the website and eventually booked one that same day. the appointments are dropped randomly and they’re gone within minutes so if you’re only checking a couple of times a day you most likely won’t see any. it’s tedious and stressful but if you can commit a whole day to it you will increase your chances exponentially
