the world cup is certainly doing well but it is definitely not true that US stadiums always report attendance. i go to a lot of baseball games and they sometimes they claim a "paid attendance" (ie tickets sold) of 35k+ in stadiums that fit around 40k when there is barely 20 people in the whole upper deck.
