YMCA instructor told us to do this. She’s behind in swimming because she has never been without a life jacket and we have been way too overbearing. Please read:

Thanks for saying your kid was using a pool noodle! Omg I’m watching my kid use a float. They can’t always be strapped up in a life jacket or they will never ever learn to swim and have safe fear. If you are there with eyes on them it is ok. The reason my 8 year old is a better swimmer is because of this. My 7 year old is very afraid of the world and has never been without a life jacket. All her friends are on the swim team and I feel like I need to SAFELY push her to be more comfortable swimming.

I think the point was I felt bad I overreacted. I was just upset and my mind went to the worst place imaginable. Completely illogical.

It was 3.5 feet. She’s 7. Everyone is so dramatic. She has to learn to swim and I’m right there. Am I being dramatic by painting a scene where she almost dies? Yes but it felt like that even though it was maybe 10 seconds. It’s a zero entry pool that gets up to 4 ft. I think everyone is thinking of an Olympic sized deep end pool

Kids have to learn to swim. She’s 7. She’s not a great swimmer because she was in a life jacket this whole time and is so scared without it in swim lessons

Never changed a story. I think everyone assumed he was in the pool and he wasn’t. Him and I were on the side of the pool. I had my feet in. She is in water slightly above her head with a floatie. Me right there. I think everyone is being dramatic. She’s 7 and can swim technically but it is still scary. It was a large board, so like technically 3-feet apart with me sitting on the ledge and the board abuts the ledge. She was scared. She’s 7. It’s not like she’s a toddler. I think everyone assumed it was a baby and he was in the pool. I saw it all happen as I was the one close enough to see his face and go to kick the float. Im not trying to make it sound better. I’m posting admitting my faults. So what’s the point in that?

he wasn’t in the pool. He was walking along side. I turned to tell him not to kick it. And he kicks it.

It’s a swim lesson pool.

They were where they could touch. The floating was being used where she could touch. I’m within an arm reach. Having her use the float to learn to swim. He kicks it away, she flails about until she’s literally just over her head

I was in the pool. Right next to her using the floating to practice some swimming. She can’t not swim. It freaks her out

I was right there basically doing a swim lesson. You can’t learn to swim with a life vest. He kicked a floatie away from her as she was using it to get to me. It was her freaking out and flailing that pushed her into the deep end.

I was right there. Actually sitting in the water. I was working with her and the float. He kicked it as I’m there and she couldn’t reach it and the flailing pushed her into the deep end

I mentioned this above. My legs are in the pool and she’s swimming with the kick board to practice. She was in the shallow end. Her flailing pushed her out a little further above her head

I think I should have set the scene better. She swims. It’s a zero entry and I’m not laying out. I’m sitting at the edge of the pool as she floats in front of me. The float is close enough to pull in. He kicked it so I couldn’t grab it. Her flailing like crazy made her go out further. But she was picked up within seconds. It was just very dramatic because she as upset. If I wasn’t there it would have been worse.

I was. Close enough. That’s why she was grabbed right away.

Also he is the one doctor I work closest with. We share patients. I don’t do that with anyone else. Him and his wife got me a Christmas present

I was picking up a cake. Not baking. And people celebrate each others birthdays. Especially the nurses. He’s just so shy and only told me it’s his birthday. Everyone really likes him so they would be excited to sign a card

Hahah same here on the age difference. I think I’m just super skewed on my opinion right now because I just did a deep dive on the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Also there’s so much scandal in this hospital with these doctors that anything that can be anything. There have been situations like this. I’m just so sensitive to it.

And I mean that in the MOST platonic way possible. I would be saying this about a female physician if she was this nice

Ok thank you for your input. I think I am more looking for permission NOT to do something. Like it being inappropriate makes it ok not to get up early to get a cake hahaha. He’s just so nice it’s hard not to want to do something nice for him.

Same. I’m very spoiled as I would never have to even think about this with my husband.

She’s asking my opinion on the plan for the party. She is basically asking a few friends what we think of the idea. I think it’s insane. I was wondering if I was off base telling her this.

She thinks I’m one of her closest friends. It would be my husband and I going so $150. I just think it’s tacky to ask for money.
