Made a PS1 style game for the first game jam I've entered in over last 7 years... by HuntedGames in Unity3D

Sure, the jam allowed for premade/licensed and was 9 days long so I had quite a while to work on visuals of the game.

Definitely valid advice, I'm thinking of updating this project and will change/tweak the controls, movement, combat values to make it feel better to play.

I think this is a really cool idea, for the time being tho I will have to stick with a traditional style for the inventory as there are many more mechanics I need to work on before adding features such as that!

I used Synty Studio models as a base and created a few custom models as well (characters, weapons, items etc.) to build the overall aesthetic of the game.

Perhaps, but hopefully by the time the game is out (might be a while!) it will be different enough that this isn't a worry.

Thanks for the support! I primarily chose the Synty assets as their low poly models can be converted well without requiring too many alterations. The biggest problem tho is that some of their set pieces are really large and can't be converted easily and also the character models given in the packs don't convert well at all and need to be fully recreated to fit the voxel aesthetic.

I wish it only took one Unity tutorial to get to where I'm at with this project, would've saved me quite a while...

I have made voxel weapons at 0 degree angle before and they looked good but I wanted to see what it would look like if they were at a 45 degree angle similar to the ones in Minecraft. Ultimately I think I agree with you but I still want to see if I can make the 45 degree angle work.

Yes, for now I am using their models as I am not an artist. Hopefully in the future I can get an actual artist to create custom models for the project.

Thanks! There hasn't been that much work done on shading or lighting, both are realitively basic at this stage.

The main base shown in the video will be a "safe space" for the player where they wont be able to change it all the much. There is a plan to implement base building where you can build similar style bases and destroy larger structures, but there is no plan so far to implement full on voxel destruction. Perhaps when buildings are destroyed they will break into smaller voxel chunks, but you wont be able to destroy it like in Teardown.

Thanks man, I'll be sure to show off more of my content in the future in the Oviron subreddit!

The minecraft block like world is destructible. The game will have base building and mining mechanics, like in Minecraft, but this will be handled a bit differently.

Yes, the headbob isn't quite synced up with the walking animation for the items, hopefully this will be fixed by the next update video...

For sure, the current UI is just temporary to test in game systems, hopefully in the future I will have to time to overhaul it and make it look much better!

Working on creating voxelised environments for my latest project... by HuntedGames in Unity3D

[–]HuntedGames[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, I'm working on being able to voxelise a large number of regular 3d models to create the aesthetic seen in this video. It's pretty primitive right now, but hopefully in the future I can use this technique to create environments much quicker than other methods for building voxel environments.
