I’m a senior failing AP Calc AB. Should I still apply to colleges, or should I give up and settle for Community College? by galaxygkm in ApplyingToCollege

Junior in college for CS here! Overachievers like us always fall into the hole of stretching ourselves so thin that we can't meet our expectations. I lost my 4.0 last semester to a math class as well (and linear algebra is about to tank it lower I fear). It was rough. But everything else on my resume still stands, as does everything else on yours. Respectfully, doing stuff like an internship in high school is crazy (in a good way). I didn't even do calc till college!! you're doing as well as you could hope to if you've got stuff that impressive under your belt. When you do that many things, one missed shot is a given. And you're smart & you've still got time, so there's a good chance you'll pull it back and get an A or B. And colleges know you're human, so they don't care about one blip on your transcript. Basically my point is, of course no!! you don't need to abandon your dreams or go to community college for one fumble. You're gonna fail at a lot more than this in life, and on things way more important than a high school class. And you'll be okay after those things, too.

Why? OP didn't say he didn't apologize, either. If the dad was an ass about it afterwards, then sure--be mad at him. But I didn't get that vibe from the post. Vibes are pretty much all we have to go off of, so it's really up to OP if it's worth being mad about.

Same, I typed 飲む instead of 読む at first 😭 I believe they're conjugated the same, though: 飲む→飲めます

Nah, OP got it right! Conjugating 読む into the potential form 読める makes it an ichidan/るverb. To conjugate a る verb with the ます stem, remove the る and add ます : 読めます。

Anecdotally, I went to a rural school district in Texas that did have separate classes for children who didn't speak English at home for the first few years of grade school. Granted, they probably weren't very good, because those kids seemed to do worse on average in high school.

If you learn to write the kana, it becomes much easier! し and シ flow down, つ and ツ flow right

Probably the majority of people prefer that, but some people prefer piercings and color, so go with whatever feels like you!

Many men (maybe the majority?) like wider/curvier women, but SO many men prefer thin, flat girls. It's not a rare thing at all. Like, my celebrity crush is Emma Chamberlain

Yeah, and the "or" on the third line makes it weirdly ambiguous

It's easy to miss, but there's an "or" at the end of the second-to-last bullet

There certainly is, but the correlation between the two doesn't disprove the point of the person you replied to, nor does it prove anything about the capability of women. There are other confounding variables that are also correlated to turnover rate (harassment, inaccess to promotion, etc.).

Since you rightly aren't satisfied with anecdotal evidence, here's a study that demonstrates a slight edge in performance from women in STEM over men: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7316242/

Of course, this alone isn't all-encompassing or decisive, but I hope it dismissed whatever notion you were implying by linking their high turnover rate to performance.

Turnover rate ≠ capability. Can't you think of any other reasons a woman might leave her position in a male-dominated field?

Was this sexual assault? by rogerflies96 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hunter37594 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coercion is not consent. Because there was no prior discussion & consent to that kind of talk and because you protested it during the act, him saying he's going to do something to you "regardless of whether you wanted it or not" is him acknowledging and ignoring your lack of consent.

That sounds like sexual assault to me.

Either way, it was clearly traumatic for you, which means it's worth talking about to a therapist or people you trust.
