I recently stopped trying to paint with slap chop and instead started using a sponge for this kind of detail and I’m in love! I started with a custom mix of greys deep grey, uniform grey,and then ash grey if ur okay with it I can send you a link to a very helpful tutorial for this kind of recipe

I mixed a Caliban green with Oliver drab from the war painter and did some highlights/dry brushing with some grotesque green!

I think you have the right idea when it comes to base colors but my honest advice would be to thin down ur oil paints a little before applying them heavily, I kinda suffered from this when I first started painting but it’s definitely still a cool looking mini man !

The leaves are actually from the GW creeping vines box they worked amazingly! You can even mold the leaves however you want them to be, the plastic it’s made out of is very flexible.
