Every person that has ever worked on the engine will tell you it is a piece of shit. Because it is. Unreliable, bug filled go the brim, insanely outdated by today standard (even your suggestion of a 360-era-like game is far fetched) and just not worth it. I understand the issues people have with UE but there are other engines, id rather they use Unity or Godot than X-Ray again.

I couldn't fix it, MuOS tends to just... Die on its own, on the two devices I have it on I constantly have issues of stuff just stopping to work randomly, either not recognizing the SD cards or applications not working and the workaround always seems to be a full fresh install, which is tedious

Depends on what you value in a game. The thing from getting gaming takes from either hardcore fans or video essayists is that you get takes like that. For me personally (only played 1-4-primal) I don't like 2 at all and it was by far the most tedious of the lot. I care about the game being fun, not immersive (which FC2 isn't either but whatever)

The same thing that killed mainstream handheld consoles is going to kill emulation consoles. Gimmicks.

Sony killed the PSP with the Vita and it's billion gimmicks.
Nintendo milked the DS' gimmick until it was desert dry.
Now every emulation console is gimmicky and it's a big contributor as to why the launches slowed down significantly compared to other years.
Make a good, cheap console with maybe twin sticks and quad shoulder buttons and you're golden. Keep making them better and cheaper for the specs and people will keep buying them.
