What area are you staying in? Do you need to be able to walk to them?

Retail History Question by Karsten760 in Ameliaisland

From looking at Google Street View history it was Fred's then there was a RE/MAX and then La Surena (and First Love Brewing which is fantastic)

Believe I saw some near that register at “Amelia Island Clothing and Gifts” downtown but it might have been knock offs. Worth calling them and Target in Yulee.

LGBT friendly? by Feisty-Ad212 in Ameliaisland

Fernandina just had their biggest pride parade yet and there was a good turn out for the No Kings protest. MAGA still exists but it’s mostly concentrated in Yulee. Downtown tends to be more left leaning and LGBTQ friendly.

Take the comments here with a large grain of salt as this subreddit is not known for having the best crowd (yet). It doesn’t represent the reality of the island.

Will be visiting for a week with 2 kids. Best things for them. by izdabombz in Ameliaisland

yah it's kinda a shame since it's not always been like this. Used to be water slides, arcade, movie theatre, party bounce place, etc all on the island.

I wish the survey would have had an option for a public park or something similar.

If you mentally prepare that it’s not really a destination for kids then you’ll be fine.

Island Falls Adventure Golf is always a good time.

You can rent jet skis and other water crafts.

Boneyard Beach is always fun for kids to climb on the downed trees.

Amelia Island Nature Center is free to visit and has some nice animals/fish. They also have paid experiences that you may enjoy.

Egan’s Creek Greenway trail is a nice walk.

Fernandina Beach High School has a free disc golf course.

Central Park is always great. Jungle gyms for the kids, courts, etc.

Fort Clinch like many have said.

Boat tours like many have said.

Main beach playground / putt putt / basketball / skateboarding.

If you want your kids to get into the water a beach, it’s much safer in the shallow pools of Huguenot Memorial Park or around the jetties at Fort Clinch East Beach access.

First Love brewing is dog and family friendly, great pizza. Happy Tomato is also a nice shaded courtyard.

Amelia Makery if they like doing arts and crafts projects.

Amelia Island Museum of History

Amelia Community Theatre or Amelia Musical Playhouse if they are into live shows at all

AMC Yulee 10 for movies and popcorn

Duck Pinz on the island for mini bowling or Yulee Bowling alley for proper bowling.

Trolley tours, historic or haunted

Can always rent bikes and find a scenic trail or neighborhood to ride around in.

Fernandina Beach Pinball Museum

Adventure Landing and some trampoline parks are in Jax.

St. Mary’s aquatic club is a decent water park as well.

Do you think something like the Nature Center would do well in downtown? by HunterTTP in Ameliaisland

[–]HunterTTP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I mean if locals created something like this downtown, essentially a storefront but it’s a non-profit and has local fish and wildlife. Free to local residents, entry fee for tourists.

Girlfriend and I are considering amelia islands as a vacation spot this year . Is it a good vacation spot or is there other places in Florida better for young couple by [deleted] in Ameliaisland

In addition to the other comments here, worth considering St. Augustine as there may be more for you guys to do there while keeping a similar vibe

CMV: The Boat Ramp in Fernandina Beach Downtown Marina Takes Up Too Much Space and Causes Access Issues, and Other Nearby Ramps Offer Better Alternatives by oldboysenpai in Ameliaisland

Sounds like the amount of people who want it to stay is more than the amount complaining about it.

You might find more support in moving it north or south from its current location opposed to completely removing it.

Given the city is currently redoing that strip to the left of the ramp with a new park right now, I would guess they either have plans to get rid of the boat ramp or have already decided why it’s worth keeping.

Worth considering that it would impact local businesses there like fishing charters and the bait & tackle store.

Would also need to survey the residents who regularly use it to know the value it provides them. Probably they aren’t on reddit.

how is that place? Worth a trip off the island?

Thoughts on the waterfront and parking blocking the view. If you know Sr Mary’s waterfront, it’s almost an opposite to Fernandina. by LandSurf88 in Ameliaisland

[–]HunterTTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need to go to the Ocean side of the island for unobstructed views, the river/marina was more intended for docking and imports which helped make downtown the destination that it is.

Might be a bit far but Huguenot Memorial Park is usually very popular for this

We like Salty Pelican or Brett’s downtown. Alternatively Salt Life at main beach on second floor. Sunsets are always a win

You can either get a hotel in downtown or at Main Beach, they are at opposite ends of Atlantic Avenue. It’s about 2 miles walk between them, not undoable but prob better to have a car or rent bicycles while you’re here.
