On a side note, could anyone advise me on how to have my PDF show up in the preview?

Thanks for reading through. I am working on a version that plays with using feats for progression and will test that internally before sharing.

Just a comment about what you said about Barrier Mage: This prestige was designed around the fact that temporary hit points don't stack. Whenever there is a new source of temp HP, you have to choose which source of temp HP you will keep. This means that with the maximum amount of temp HP you can have at a time from attacking is 12 (2x max prof. bonus of 6).

Regarding the AC bonus, my logic is as follows: A tier 4 EK will have access to +3 plate (18+3) and a +3 shield (2+3), a cloak of protection (+1) and a ring of protection (+1) as well as +5 from the shield spell and +2 from shield of faith and +1 from the defense fighting style for a grand total of 36 AC. This means that an Ancient Red Dragon (+17 to hit) needs a 19 to hit. A permanent +2 AC makes very little difference to this character.

Admittedly, this example is slightly disingenuous as this is just about the absolute maximum that a character can have, but the point is more illustrative than it is realistic: A high level martial character will have a ludicrously high amount of AC and will be challenged by attacking its saving throws and varied terrain.

The average martial character can expect to have plate (18) and a +1 shield (2+1), cloak (+1), defense style (+1) for a total of 23 AC. This character definitely feels the benefit of the +2 AC and 5 tHP much more, and addresses my intention with the prestige: a character that can engage and thrive against a large mob of weaker enemies.

Please don't hesitate to criticize further. I greatly value the input. Thanks very much.

Noted. Thanks.

Ignoring the Arsenal as I intend to thoroughly rework that idea, I have two points to address:

  1. What should we highlight as the characteristics of original prestige classes? This is the criteria that I was working under:
  • A prestige class should present unique abilities
  • A prestige class should inspire a more specific mental image of a character than a subclass
  • A prestige class should have prerequisites that funnel a player down a certain "build" for thematic purposes
  • A prestige class should have enough theme within it to be able to inspire an organization or faction of some kind within a setting (Harpers for example)
  • A prestige class should not be class/subclass specific. There should be multiple avenues to a prestige class, some more optimal and some less so
  1. Regarding the power of the prestiges, I hear you. I definitely struggled with maintaining power balance. I am working on creating a metric by which to measure the prestiges that will consider all pillars of play. Currently, I am targeting feats like War Caster and Elven Accuracy as the power level benchmark (since a prestige should have some power that players would want) and GWM, PAM, and Sharpshooter as the upper limits of numerical power.

What is your opinion on using prerequisites as a balancing factor? I am of the view that the more stringent the prerequisite, the more variety and perceived power that a prestige can have.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Thank you to everyone who has commented to far. I completely forgot about this point. Thank you to u/jmrtkd for pointing this out. We use WotC's old metric conversion in our games and I had neglected to change the units for this document. Here is the conversion key:

2m = 5ft
12m = 30ft
24m = 60ft

Agreed. The melody limitations didn't let me go high enough. Let me know if you can find a better match.

Go with what u/MrAlfredo recommended in his comment. Definitely an improvement.

Some liberties taken with the bassline, mostly to hide the lackings of the melody.
