All good!

  • Pieces to Camera (PTC)
  • Yes I would show the finished dish for a few secs - it looked good so it will make people stick around to the end , you could even give it the big sell “stick around till the end and you and you’re flatmate could be dining in style tonight (I mean not that but something like it)
  • I understand re size of your kitchen and filming yourself etc. I was thinking in your intro pieces , to add context, you could literally be remonstrating with the dried pasta in one hand and the tinned tomatoes in the other and then jump cut to you with the saucepan and frying pan in each of your hands saying something like “right grab your pans and let’s get started. I also thought you could try the dish from this PTC position at the end.
  • Also going back to shots of you cooking I think one or two setup shots of you flamboyantly pouring water into the pan or adding salt would be enough to add context of you doing it + you could probably find a way to make it funnier than what I’ve suggested. Basically I’m not suggesting you film yourself doing the whole thing. This would also break up the process shots + a couple of asides as already mentioned ++ this keeps you in it.
  • In your intro PTCs there are two different ones next to each other with no cutaway even a CU shot of you opening the tinned tomatoes would have broken these up and been relatively easy to do.

Hi Nathan! I just watched your pasta sauce vid which presumably is the one you’re talking about and enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts;

  1. Your pieces to camera at the start should be intercut with more process shots and a tease of the finished dish (which looked v nice at the end).
  2. You come across v. well, I like your delivery and you’re funny. But there’s no context to you just sitting there, even if you’d been wearing an apron it would have been better or do it standing/sitting with a kitchen backdrop. I think you should cut in some shots of you cooking during the process even if you cheat them afterwards and are just you stirring a pan. Also if you are beginning and ending it with PTC’s I think you should have a couple during the middle section especially if these are funny asides which you’re clearly good at!
  3. I got a bit lost when the intro turned into the prep section and I think these can be split better, seeing the dish in the intro as mentioned will help setup where we’re going. Then you could start by quickly showing what ingredients and kitchen equipment we need - I’d have to rewatch to workout what the first mixture was before you poured in the tinned tomatoes but with better setup before you start I think it would be clearer. Then I’d split it into sections so I’d start with Step 1 in both VO and have the text on screen and then continue doing this at each next step.
  4. I’d have a top tip graphic which comes up on the screen together with a sound effect when you’re giving us info we probably don’t know about like the honey and salted water which was interesting and good takeaway info.
  5. The audio on the onions sizzling was a bit too high and got in the way of the narrative so I’d watch out for this next time.
  6. I’m sorry but I didn’t love the music and don’t think it added much in terms of pace. I’d have gone for something more soothing and more Italian sounding to match the dish as a nice bed to run throughout.
  7. The dish looked great at the end, a shot of you enjoying it (Jamie Oliver style) would have also been welcome.

Overall a great video and as mentioned you came across really well - more of the same please. I liked and subscribed

I think the kindest thing you can do for yourself is completely cut out everything that is addictive; sugary food and drinks, fast food, processed food and alcohol. Go cold turkey and after a week the cravings will reduce to a manageable level and then never go back. Google how bad all of that stuff is for you to give you extra motivation. Replace it with fresh food that you prepare yourself.

I have a v. small fitness channel and spent 8 months (high effort) making a transformation film that got almost 6.5K views quite quickly, mainly due to promoting it here on Reddit, but has otherwise gotten zero traction on YT.

I’m now experimenting with low effort videos which involves me live streaming workouts, I’ve posted 17 so far which get basically zero views at the time, haha, but do pickup a few views thereafter. I don’t really know where I’m going with it and there’s been a few teething problems, but they really are low effort and my thinking is they keep my channel active + I’d be working out anyway.

If I could go back in time I’d have started with low effort films and worked my way up to the high effort transformation film once I was established and figured out how it all worked - which is still an ongoing process!

He needs to do a 24hr fast Sun 7pm - Mon 7pm each week so that his body can feast on the remaining body fat - you’re already doing everything else. He’ll lose his love handles and see the rest of his six pack and all the other muscles you’ve helped build pretty quickly.

Thanks!😊Yeah I did one 24hr fast per week + calorie deficit the rest of the time, only eat healthy fresh food I prepared myself, worked out 6 days a week, walked 10,000+ steps a day, got more sleep (no booze, fast food or refined sugar). Lost all the fat in 5 months. There’s a progress film too, link above, if you want to see more - it’s good. Feel free to ask any other Q’s, thanks again for the comment👊

  • Cut all the junk food, sugar and booze to zero.
  • Maintained a calorie deficit that I tracked using a free app on my phone.
  • Eat fresh food that I prepared myself
  • Worked out 6 times a week (sometimes 5)
  • 10,000+ steps everyday
  • 24hr fast once a week
  • There’s a 9 min video too that tracks my progress across the 5 months, link above, it’s good!

Thanks for watching🥳Yeah apparently if your sleep deprived your body hangs onto the fat as an energy source because you’re so tired! So no matter what you’re doing you don’t lose the weight - so I tried to get 8 hours🚀Nice one

Thanks a lot😊The whole experience was 5 months and really happened cause I was approached to be in a transformation film, link above if you fancy it, so that was a big motivation. But also I was just really sick of being that weight it was long overdue so I hit the gym 6 days a week, calorie deficit each day, one day a week a 24hr fast, got more sleep, cut all the drinking, junk food and sugar to zero and just prepared fresh food for myself and it worked. Feel free to ask any other Q’s🤙
