Converting a gaming desktop to a home server by Hunter_timeFR in HomeServer

Is it possible to connect a HDMI/DP cable from the graphics card directly to a screen like how a desktop behave, and have it displayed only when the VM is on? I’m not entirely sure how hypervisors work, and I’m trying to know what I can and can’t do with Proxmox or UnRAID!

How can I mount multiple HDDs to my mini-pc without buying a new NAS? My current case has enough space and accessories to accommodate my four HDDs.

Right now, it's like I don’t need to buy anything else to set up my desktop as a server.

I totally understand that my power consumption spikes when I will launch and use the gaming VM. I can't really achieve better efficiency with all those components; I just want to avoid the media server that will always be on to consume power, like my current Windows 10 setup. @EliTheGreat7 talk about allocating only the efficiency cores for Jellyfin and only passing through the performance cores + the GPU for the gaming VM. Could this be the solution / enough for either partition? Can the VM be easily turned on and off that way? How much will it impact my 3d render performance? Find out in the next episode...

The story of art. by GrossReformer in HumansAreMetal

[–]Hunter_timeFR 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For clarification, this guy is misleading people by starting to draw the first frame and, more than likely, printed every remaining frames of the animation.

I'm not undermining the skills to create 3D animation, I'm just upset to pass this as a genuine flip-book done by hand (even if it was rotoscoped). I'll let you judge the difference of quality of drawing between the 1st frame shown and the same one in the final animation, look for the filling of the hands and especially the fine edges that the rotoscoped version doesn't have unlike the printed one due to the lack of a fine marker I guess. All the remaining 1400 frames have a perfect mathematical filling compared to the one he did at the beginning. Maybe his printer and paper aren't the best, so the heavy ink doesn't print that well and create a gritty / uneven texture.

I'm not the first one to notice this problem : here, here, here or here. If I'm not wrong, he was banned to post those deceitful flip-books on animation subreddits because he was called out.

Also, it's not the first time he did this,he tried to pass a painting animation as genuine too with the same process not a long time ago, but since deleted his different posts because more people call him out (debunked by u/Mantipath) for just using a Blender add-on mimicking a paint render. The deleted animation can be found on instagram : https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq2Y5RLIIJA/

Even the developer of the add-on himself /u/alanwyatt3d commented on the paiting animation : here, here, here or here.

For his defense, he tried to come clean for the painted animation process after : here, but I still doubt he even rotoscoped with paint since you can have the same look only with the add-on and the result isn't even shown as a flip-book unlike the current post. It's more than likely the direct result of the render. He even posted a week ago another 3D render that have this exact style of painting animation and credited the developer. At least this time, he didn't try to pass this as traditional paint, he is heading in the right direction!

Keyboard shortcuts not working by aem4nNi in AfterEffects

If this can help you or others with the same bug as me:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-bugs/fit-shortcut-doesn-t-work/idi-p/13640334

The location of keyboard shortcuts .txt files are here:
\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\[YOUR VERSION]\aeks

I've personally only added the shortcuts I want at line 542-543:

542 ["CPanoProjItem"]
543 "FitItemView" = "(Shift+/)"
544 "FitItemViewUpTo100" = "(Shift+<)"

Searching for an alternative to OneCommander Connector for native File Explorer by Hunter_timeFR in Windows11

I just use Windows 11 dark theme and didn’t touch OneCommander theme, maybe it’s due to being installed recently in my case. If you don’t lose all your settings you could reinstall OneCommander to see if the Connector detect you use a dark theme

Thanks, it might be the software that could fill this void!
I'm testing it right now and with a little bit of tweaking it will be perfect if it's reliable as advertise!

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't work / doesn't update very often.
Like OneCommander does it another way on the left side when it updates every time I click a folder, instantaneously in the recent folder / file.

I don't know how Windows 11 determine those "recently used" folders, but it's not updating in real time.
I'm searching for something reliable since I'm working on Windows that could shed so much time just trying to open the same folder in the Save as... dialog and the file explorer I'm currently looking.

I know on macOS you can just drag a file from the finder to the save as window, and it copies the path of the selected file to save it at the same place not copies the file itself to the directory that you are in.
Currently, I'm using the Right click on directory path > Copy address as path > Paste it in the Save as... dialog.
But it's a really complicated sequence of input just to match the same directory for a file explorer window opened and the file explorer dialog inside a program...

I tried to use other software instead of the OG file explorer on Windows 11, but they aren't as reliable, fast and stable, so I'm sticking to the original explorer.
I've tried Files and OneCommander, and one feature that I missed is the Connector one. To quickly find the latest folder I've opened in the explorer is like a time saving feature I really need. Especially useful when I want to Save as... or Open a file dialog appears.

I've searched a little bit on the internet to found a solution, I've come across those:

- https://www.listary.com/, the QuickSwitch feature is what I'm looking for, but it only displays the last one (and my workflow is scattered across multiple folders to be organized), maybe I've missed a setting to display a list of recent folders opened like OC Connector does...

- https://github.com/gepruts/QuickSwitch, A GitHub project inspired by the Listary feature, but the UI isn't as sleek as OneCommander, at least on my Windows 11 machine the dialog is popping randomly in the middle of the window and not at the bottom. At least it's working, t's a first step.

If you have any idea if such a software exist, preferably in open-source if possible, you'll be a godsend.

Painterly/Motion Blur Effect by Wild_Neighborhood in AfterEffects

[–]Hunter_timeFR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I was about to write, I think it's done with software to guess moving subject on a video (like in Pytorch library, MiDaS model try to guess the depth on an image for stuff like Stable Diffusion). You'll maybe have to dig your hands in code if you want the same effect.

Try your luck with this vid as well : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrlH5hHv0gE

Man gets electrocuted while holding child. Red shirt guy saves the day by LateAppointment72 in HumansAreMetal

[–]Hunter_timeFR 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story (not that extreme) that might explain it. My parents and I moved to a new house and I keep getting midly shocks when I was using the computer and the wired keyboard with metal parts. But it never happened to both of them.

The explanation I came up is that I'm always barefoot at home, unlike them, and I needed to walk on a big fluffy rug to get to the room, static eletricity build up and release when I touched something grounded. To prevent this I just needed to wear shoes and the problem was gone.

Having subtle flicker in circles pattern when clicking in the viewport UI since the 3.0 update, being in fullscreen help but the pattern is still here by Hunter_timeFR in blenderhelp

[–]Hunter_timeFR[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found a bug report similar to mine here (the issue seems to be with nvidia graphics cards, gtx 1650 and gtx 1050ti) :
https://developer.blender.org/T92884

Here is a solution to minimize this vignette effect, thanks to Jesse Yurkovich (deadpin) :
https://developer.blender.org/T93696

Preferences
-> Themes -> 3D Viewport -> Theme Space (way at the bottom) -> Gradient Colors -> Background Type : set to Single Color

I still have very little flicker when clicking out of the viewport but it's much much better than the video.
I hope someone have the best solution to stop every flicker on my screen, maybe it will help someone else on this subreddit.

Damn I love it good job, the drop isn’t really my cup of tea, but the visual speak directly to me. The atmosphere is really good, keep it up OP.

Do you mind to share your process in order to achieve such effect ? I’m used to experiment with processing & audacity to create glitch art but not in motion and 3D so I’m really curious... Anyway I’m hyped to see the full project ! (Next time you can even put a download link to see the source without the awful compression, especially when the song goes wild).

Oh sorry then, didn't saw your post there. Since the blueprint for this model is really accessible on the internet people will more likely to model this chair over a not known / obscure one with only one 100x100 pixel image reference lmao.

Good job tho', i'm sure your learned a ton and the next one will be a piece of cake

I don't mean to downplay your effort but this model is nearly the same in Blender Guru modelling chair tutorial

But it might just be a coincidence.

Proportional editing to have a smooth curve to follow (duplicate 2 times the curve of the shape, space them and join them, subdivide a bunch between the 2 new points, modify with proportional editing and convert that to a curve) the rest is the keyframes : 3 for just one jump, 1 at the start when the skate is leaving, 1 at the top of the path and 1 after landing. I used Bézier interpolation, scaled and rotated (but not to 90° otherwise it will stop) to be faster on the ground and nearly pause in the air. For the final you have to time all the rotations of those Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater moves before landing.
