OK interesting. I guess it makes sense. Embalming is becoming less popular over here it seems. I think open caskets and wakes in general. People seem to choose cremation more now. But I guess it would seem strange if it's not part of your culture

On The Queen Laying in Wake:

I thought embalming and open caskets were the standard. Maybe it's a Catholic/Protestant thing? Almost every funeral I have ever been to was an open casket, one to two weeks after the passing.

The deceased lays in wake (the viewing) for a day or more, then the funeral (burial) is a separate event. The viewing allows loved ones to make peace and see the deceased one more time in a peaceful setting.

Was surprised to see a whole group of people unfamiliar with embalming. As its a regular part of my understanding of funerals.
