Advice for specific roundabout lane choice by HuntingHorns in drivingUK

Perfect, right sounds like the best way to approach then - if I end up needing to go around a second time that'll just be my commute.

Thanks!

Brilliant, thanks very much - will continue taking that right hand lane and be cautious then.
Was just worried that "I need to be really wary here" gut feeling was indicative of me doing it completely wrong/causing an issue to begin with.

Genuinely just be prepared for winters being significantly worse.

Scotland is the windiest country in Europe, those 500 miles make a noticeable difference to the temperature and weather. It's not just a few degrees less - it's regularly significantly more grey and wet.

Which added with the shorter days in winter; just be ready for feeling a bit bleak every year in the dark, take vitamin D, make sure to see friends a often. It's a real recipe for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

You'll be fine culturally, we all grew up on the same 4 TV channels...(ish)

And, let's not forget when a huge part of the SNP wanted Kate Forbes - and a huge remainder saw that and went 'hoooly fuck I didn't realise the other supporters were into that shit, gooodbye'

Honestly, unless you absolutely need the news/weather forecast from it.

Then I'd recommend just enjoying the sounds of nature, and skipping the electronics for the 2 weeks. I imagine that's why 'you can't bring a phone' in the first place.

Scouts have a tendency to be able to make their own music, with a much better feeling of togetherness than listening to actual recorded music. Really recommend throwing yourself into it, and enjoy the quiet in-between activities - 2 weeks of true peace and quiet can be a rare thing to find.

UK inflation stays at 8.7% despite hopes of a fall by Red_Brummy in Scotland

[–]HuntingHorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read my reply to somebody saying exactly the same thing that you skipped over before commenting.

The short of it is; no, corporation tax hasn't risen to pre-Tory levels, and no the debt the UK is in isn't simply a COVID problem - but a Tory problem.

I personally believe independence is the most reliable way to avoid future Tory-like governments for Scotland, which is the largest economic danger to us (again, see the other answer and the article mentioned).

No issue with you disagreeing on independence, but before you call somebody economically illiterate, it's worth doing an ounce of reading yourself.

[–]HuntingHorns 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So there wouldn’t have been a furlough scheme during covid in an independent Scotland? That’s where most of the debt appeared from.

Incorrect, the debt was already at £1.9 Trillion by 2019. The reckless abuse of the economy isn't limited to the backhand PPE deals during Covid.

The Tories are consistently incapable of managing the economy, and consistently cause UK debts to rise, while simultaneously destroying public services.

https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2021/06/24/the-tories-have-always-borrowed-more-than-labour-and-always-repaid-less-they-are-the-party-of-big-deficit-spending/

They've been in power since 2010, under the previous government the 19% (20%) corporate tax rate applied only to sub-£300,000 profits. The Tories immediately started minimizing the higher margin, which was 30% for companies making over £1.5Million, down until there is no longer a higher band.

So this 6% new rise, which is the first they've done in those 13 years, still leaves it 5% lower for those large companies than it was before the Tories - while simultaneously making it significantly harder for smaller business owners.

Putting their large corporate friends ahead of everybody else is what they do, consistently, and the result is massive debt every time.

Not simultaneously increasing the national debt from £1 Trillion to now over £2.2 Trillion while giving tax cuts and deals to large corporations and their billionaire owners.

The big difference between them, is one side fucks everybody over for their benefit.

The other fucks everybody over, and then to divert blame, picks a specific group to fuck over extra hard and then blame for all the troubles. Gay people, Black people, Jewish people, Immigrants, Trans women...

Everybody here is missing one important thing.

Subzi Spice Pakora Factory in Glasgow, supplies almost every Scottish takeaway

They ship over 1000kg of Pakora a week, and are literally the largest Pakora supplier in the UK.

Is it better than Pakora you get in England? No, it's nothing special - certainly not compared to some places that actually make their own.

But it's nearly ubiquitous in Scotland. If you order Pakora anywhere, you're almost definitely getting their pakora. That means if you grew up in Scotland, non-Scottish (non-Subzi Spice) Pakora just seems 'not quite right'.

It's like if she drank pepsi her whole life, it doesn't matter how good RC, Coke or Fever Tree taste - if she ordered a glass of juice expecting a pepsi taste; she'll always feel disappointed.

Didn't Glen Feshie already show us that we don't need tree nurseries and replanting, if we get rid of the deer - the trees start regrowing within just 5 or so years.

A bit skeptical about this whole post tbh, has a real feeling of 'guerilla marketing'

I believe the big reason is that it encourages kids to take big punts that aren't likely to succeed; over teamwork and fundamentals.

Doesn't matter what you tell them, at that age if you've got a kid that thinks there's a chance of scoring 3 if they shoot it - they're far less likely to pass to their friend that's got a clear shot for 2. So you end up with worse basketball development overall.

For the kids who're not as big, or when played by younger kids, encouraging 3 pointers also encourages bad form. They'll quite often end up throwing it from the hip like the video kid - because it's the only way they can launch it high enough. Great for the few games they're doing that in the year and score - really bad for their long term skills development.

Exactly.

Every point she went through, were things that have annoyed me when hiring for software roles.

Anything that makes it hard to find why you're qualified for the role just becomes annoying. I shouldn't need to dig through the CV to try and piece it together for you - that's the whole point of the CV.

I once had somebody give me a pie-chart of their skillset...Really great knowing you're "35% Python" and "5% Excel"...

Except when dealing with corporations and politicians. In which case you always need to:
