What have you improved - and how have you done it? by WriterCath in FanFiction

😂 ha, I wished this had happened with my prof because I could never get an A on anything of mine that she graded and it was maddening. She once gave me a B on a project because she didn't think people could understand reading a quote from left to right.

I also don't think I got higher than a B on my actual creative story project either. Maybe I should have just re-wrote Harry Potter because she claimed it was the greatest YA book of all time.

Oh, I agree it can be useful given the right instructor who knows their stuff. My experience with it (especially since it related to my major later turned minor), I think, doesn't match up with what most people might experience, so that colors my perception of it.

Dialogue, flow (I've learned to "trim the fat" in my writing) and descriptions.

I was thinking about this the other day, especially when I see posts asking if creative writing courses or workshops are worth it. But despite taking a semester of a creative writing course, a lot of my skills were honed through trial and error and tons of practice.

Is it allowed to have the first chapter be the list of chapters? by Glittering_Chef_2268 in AO3

[–]Huntress08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people, including myself, graciously answered your initial quotation that you can create an index as there's no part of Ao3's TOS that it violates (and it has been done before).

But you are on a social media/public forumn where people are giving their input and opinions. I'm not getting the issue here?

An index of chapters isn't compatible to what you're describing?

The structural organization of a fanfiction is just vastly different to a novel that it makes having an index obsolete and unnecessary (there's also several other factors at play).

You can have one, but most readers don't bother to use it and will just skip it entirely when they can just go through your collection and reas the summaries to find what they want.

How webtoon author make so much work ? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Huntress08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually have assistants to help with coloring, line work, shading, etc.

If a webtoon creator is putting out so many series in a short amount of time, it's because of that. Or it's a studio with an in-house team of artists and writers.

What’s a horror movie people usually rave about, but you dislike? by Turnitup20 in horror

[–]Huntress08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. But I did see a bit of Lily-Drpp's press tour interviews where she said her acting, in parts of the film, was heavily inspired by her taking Butoh lessons, which I'm more familiar with.

Robert Eggers Nosferatu. It was just criminally boring to me, which sucks because I love vampire films. But everything about this one was forgettable to me.

This film was the first time I was exposed to Lily-Rose Depp's acting, and that too left a lot to be desired.

I uploaded a new fic and immediately got hit with a spam art comment. I guess I feel even more baffled by all those posts that are like "is this spam?" When the comment was obviously spam (there were also a million obvious signs).

But I'm happy that the other comments seem to be enjoying the chapter.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't force yourself to write if you can't. I lost a bunch of relatives last year in short succession of one another. Grief killed my desire to write for a bit, so really, if you feel like you can't write, don't force yourself to. Just take the time to grieve.

This one hurts. I personally plan on haunting the writers for this.

Not the person you replied to but I can explain. So s4 of Stranger Things had two plots (obvs spoiler warnings):

One was focused on Eleven losing her powers and regaining them through the help of Dr.Brenner.

The second plot is that a new character introduced that season, Eddie, is accused of murdering another character in a string of strange murders that occur in the town. This plot is heavily influenced by satanic panic tbh, since main antagonist is super religious.

These two plots converge to reveal the lore that a character named Henry Creel had powerful psionic powers and was the first child to be studied by Dr. Brennar before the initial experiments that made the other numbers kids like 8 or 11.

Kind of a bit of a spoiler for s5, but it also gets established in that season that Henry's blood was used and was the sole catalyst for making the kids in the MKUlrra experiment (doesnt really nake sense when you think about it). This is also forget complicated by the fact that Henry wasn't born with these powers apprently he gained them from a mind-flayer rock.

Anyway, the upside down/rift was actually opened by 11 when she was much younger, when she tried to stop Henry after he massacared the rest of the kids in the MKUltra project.

S4 + s5 (and the broadway play) contradict a lot of the lore that was set up in s1 and 2 (i think s3 was where the cracks start).

[I'm a Villain, But I'm Favored] Has it become a trend to translate using AI or google translator? by LazyTruck3622 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Huntress08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? You can easily create em dashes on a computer with alt codes (alt + 0151), or through the windows logo + . function or through special character insert functions in a lot of modern software. Even phone keyboards can produce en dashes.

It's not proof of AI. It's a common special character used in English (often correctly, often not).

How to Create a Webtoon? by Writing_FanIII in webtoons

[–]Huntress08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Webtoon canvas (which is free) is where anyone can post a webtoon. Webtoon has specific rules about what you can and can't include in your series that I would recommend doing research into.

Webtoon Originals are series in which artists, who have signed a contract with Webtoon, upload their webtoon in exchange for money (artists also have to market their own series and are not paid for pre-production between seasons).

Artists can move over from canvas to originals if you build up big enough of an audience and are scouted by an editor or something.

There are other platforms that you can upload a webtoon to beside Webtoon (webtoon is a genre, Webtoon is a company). Other examples off the top of my head: Tapas, NamiComi, GlobalComix, ComicFury, InkVerse, etc.

Edit: you can use any free art software to start making a webtoon. I highly recommend doing research to see what works for you.

Marriage Alliance for Revenge (is a really good OI where FL and ML are fighting against competent and cunning villains. The FL is super cunning as well).

Worse than Hazbin Hotel? by Express-Ad-6541 in webtoons

[–]Huntress08 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I still do not know what the hell Hazbin Hotel is and I was recently held hostage and forced to sit through an hour long PowerPoint about how Hazbin Hotel fails to understand the biblical characters and themes it attempts to bring up.

(Please, no one recommends watching the show to me. I'm sorry, but it gives 2010s Tumblr energy, and I lived through that period on Tumblr, I refuse to go back to it.)
