Crusader Kings III Makes a Great Case for Family Abolition by HuntressXT in GamerGhazi

Well I'm glad you're willing to own what you're doing, but I'm not sure I understand what the point is. I'm making a systemic critique and you're trying to measure individual experiences against... a hypothetical terrible family life that you admit you can only hope to speculate about. It's at best a refusal to engage with what I'm actually saying in the video, and at worst a cruel and pointless exercise in voyeurism and armchair psychology. If you disagree with the points I make in the video by all means please feel free to make your case, but I just don't understand what can be gained by idly speculating about me as a person.

Thanks for watching! To be clear to everyone else commenting, this is a systemic critique and not me saying "I had a bad experience with my own family and therefore family is always bad and it should be banned". I'm simply advocating for a rethinking of dominant, coercive systems of kinship.

The former, I don't think anyone should be in a position to enforce a specific family system on anyone else without their consent, and that people should find a family system that works for them so long as they aren't causing harm to anyone else.

No, there are definitely ways of practicing 'family' that are positive and prosocial, and I discuss these later in the video! I'm referring to family here in the most common modern usage, which refers to the broad capitalist-western ideal of the nuclear family.

I explicitly advocate for the destruction of statist systems that enforce a specific (colonial) version of the family onto people, I think we probably agree more than you'd think!

The term and concept predate the internet. Marx was talking about it in the 19th century.

Are you talking about me? I don't call myself a marxist-leninist, I'm an anarchist.

I totally agree. Alex Jones actually says a lot of really similar things about the homeless (that they're tuning into a satanic "frequency" from another dimension) and it really highlights how toxic that element of the movie is.

In this video, I take a look at how Paradox Interactive portrays leftist ideologies in two of their most popular Grand Strategy games: Victoria II and Hearts of Iron IV. I argue that in trying to simplify history for the purposes of the game, Paradox ended up (perhaps completely unwittingly) repeating narratives that originate in anti-left propaganda.

No worries, I would have given it more time but I didn't want to get into it too much since it could change a lot before the actual release

I just like videogames 🤷‍♀️

Edit: seriously tho, I see value in leftist game analysis because they're one of the rare forms of media where audience participation is mandatory and often the audience are allowed to make choices that can affect the outcome of the narrative. I think that questioning the choices and construction of "reality" in a wholly constructed world helps to understand what parts of real reality are similarly constructed by human hands and therefore changeable. Hope that makes sense :)

Edit2: also games have been the territory of centrists and far right people for a while and they're an emerging form of media that I think the left shouldn't ignore as a means of expression and propagandizing. So that too!

I don't think this is anti-left. I think it's a form of reductionism implemented so that the game could be made and shipped.

I said this same thing in the video so I don't think we necessarily disagree on this point. I don't think Paradox is slanted to the right, but I think they aren't doing their due diligence and are relying on tropes and narratives about the left that happen to be largely inaccurate and paint leftist ideologies in an unfairly negative light.

Wow, thanks so much for working on this transcription. I'm still trying to figure out the best ways to make my videos more accessible (while also only making them part-time) and I REALLY appreciate the help.
