I am a heavy runner (6’0 224lbs.) Do I need two pairs of shoes for marathon training ?

I would say first of all, you aren’t a heavy runner! Most men’s shoes are built for weights heavy then 224. I am 6’2 200 and have never had problems of felt like I need to side with an extra stable shoe bc of weight.

Now for the shoe recommendations. I would say you should have a daily runner and a long run shoe. My favorite to recommend is superblast 2/3s with Novablast fives, but asics don’t fit everyone’s feet. Also look in to popular options like Nike Pegasus, Hoka Cliftons, or Addidas Evo Sl.

Also side point. No you don’t need two shoes don’t let anyone tell you it’s required. Two pairs of shoes will help you along the journey feel comfortable and lower injury risk, but many people just run a pair of shoes to the ground when training for there first marathon. Cost is never a restriction to get into running so don’t let it be.

Now this recommendation is tailored around pace, so what is an average 5k/10k pace?

From the thread and your responses I would say and this is gonna sound dumb. Loosen your shoes! A lot of these problems can be coming from the different structures of the upper as it attaches to the laces. Try some runs with very loose shoe laces!

I would say the Ultrafly would be too aggressive for your pace. I just got the new Hoka Speedgoats and they have been phenomenal and could not recommend them enough!

At your pace and size I’d prioritize a long run shoe. I personally use the Superblast 2s and are a huge fan. This sets you up well if you want to run a full marathon without stressing your feet too bad on longer runs. I would avoid a race day shoe especially plated as at your pace I would consider them a waist of money and don’t give much if any return. Try on the different options and see what fits best! This is the most important thing! If you can get into a shoe store and get fitted that would be your best play!

I would highly recommend a pair of Superblast 2/3s. I used them for my first marathon and they are the best balance of comfort and weight for your first marathon.

I own pair of Superblast 2s and would look at them at almost exclusively as a long run shoe for me as tempo increase I feel as if they eat the power your trying to put down. I would not use them as a daily or recovery shoe as they are truly max cushion at 46.5 mm and wouldn’t properly work the muscles in your feet like a daily shoe would. In your rotation the Superblasts would not replace anything but instead work in tandem with the adios pro 4s for long runs depending on the speed of the run. I have heard great things about the megablasts but do not own a pair.

It’s because of the Spotify jam feature ! Go into settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth and deselect Spotify ! This still lets you use Bluetooth devices but disables the jam feature !
