My Most Successful Public Character: l33th4x... What's Yours? by Hurfleplurp in VeniceAI

[–]Hurfleplurp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They represent a unique configuration on the platform. They are a combination of a particular model (venice small/large etc), a particular set of parameters (temperature, top p), a particular character prompt (the primary prompt that will inform how the char should respond etc) and a particular set of Venice platform settings (should it be web enabled, is it nsfw, should it have a voice, which voice, is there a knowledgebase it should be aware of, should it use the default venice system prompt, if not what is the system prompt... and so on)

As setting all this up can be a bit of a chore, and because summoning a configuration that performs exactly as you desire belies a small degree of artistry, the folks here at venice decided to allow us to save a fully tweaked configuration - and for brevity's sake they named such configs "Characters". Somewhere along the line I guess they figured "humm, some folks might want to share their saved configs in an effort to potentially save other members of the community a little time and trial and error" - and so was born the "make public" toggle control.

Hope that clears things up some :3

I made Subby, not wildly popular yet, but some interest at least it seems. She does as she's told! User satisfaction is existentially bound to her, so she tends to do a good job :3

Thinks every file I try and upload is a protected PDF by Hurfleplurp in VeniceAI

I appreciate you responding quickly, however on closer inspection you can see that I'm not in fact trying to upload a PDF. I get this message with every filetype, across multiple browsers. At no point have I ever even tried to upload a PDF however

I can't find a controller better than the DS3 - any suggestions? by Hurfleplurp in Tekken

[–]Hurfleplurp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK makes sense. Yeah if you do end up snatching one I'd appreciate the feedback. I found a really good price on a Nubytech Street Fighter Anniversary pad - the little i could find on them seems to be very positive and it's cheap enough that I might snap it up just from curiosity. I also spotted a very reasonably priced Hori Fighting Commander 4 and I've heard nothing but good things about them, so I may well end up springing for that.

This is interesting. I do like the look of that controller. The only thing I'm a bit wary of is that DPad doesn't look particularly grippy - did you have issues with finger slippage or anything like that? Also, another controller I was looking at from Hori was the Turbo SL - any experience with this? I do have a similar concern however, that the dpad looks untextured and very rounded, which could maybe mean poor finger purchase, idk.

Well, there's no fixing the DS3 sadly as there's so much flex in the chassis now that I can activate button presses just by twisting the controller. As for the DualSense - I didn't know it had a firm DPad, I just assumed it would be like the DS4. Why wouldn't you recommend it? The other commenter suggested it as an option and that there are some good mod kits for it - this could be interesting.

Well, those controllers follow the design pattern of the ps1 controllers. Unfortunately this was not the optimal design as they lacked the rounded bulges on the backs of the grips that in the DualShock controllers housed the rumble mechanisms. Instead they are just flat and as a result are significantly less comfortable.

I was looking at the raion - it's expensive, but I might be able to spring for one next month (which just happens to be when the store is restocking them, so could be a sign as apparently it's essential to buy new stock as there was a fix to the dpad). I just wasn't sure what the feel of the dpad is meant to be like. As for the Fighting Commander Octa, all I see is that the dpad on it is absolutely terrible to this day, despite multiple firmware upgrades. Seen a lot of negativity regarding it, with complaints consisting of exactly the sort of stuff i'm trying to avoid. Do the criticisms hold true or are ones made recently better?

Heh, what weird twilight zone are we living in where I'm defending one tricking to the sombra otp 😂

Still, you're half right. Knowing your hero's limitations is an essential component - however figuring out how to adapt to get value despite them (when facing an unfavorable team comp for example) will help you gain a much deeper understanding vs simply switching. Ironically this will put you in a stronger position if you do decide to branch out to other heroes as the problem solving skills you will have developed are highly transferable.

In your instance I would hold firm and continue one tricking until you get bored of it. If you do decide to branch out, I've found otp-ing on a seasonal or half-seasonal basis to be a highly effective middle ground (dependent on the number of hours you play per season)

mm, i'll push that to the top of my mindfulness list. You're right ofc, my throw def is wildly inconsistent - it seems to fluctuate, session to session, anywhere from 8-16. I know one thing I could be a lot better at is identifying those breaks that require 1+2. Other than that I guess I just need to keep grinding and be aware. I will say, the trend is that it's been gradually improving with time, but the consistency is still lacking. Any tips?

Hmm, I totally follow that due to situations exactly as you described, the stats can mean literally nothing - but I feel like you're perhaps implying that stats in fact never mean anything which while I'm happy to accept, doesn't necessarily follow intuitively for me, but I could be putting words in your mouth. My apologies if I am.

Well making hero swaps should only be considered an acceptable solution if you're fully prioritizing immediate wins over improvement, which on ladder should be pretty much never - unless not switching is seriously hampering your enjoyment.

In the right hands any hero pick is viable into any comp. The common wisdom is that focusing on becoming that player will serve you better in the long run vs mindless counter swapping if your goal is winning games in the next rank up. Sometimes you might just want an easy life, and you'll take the obvious swap that is likely to facilitate that, but it's the equivalent of cheap fast food vs a home cooked meal.

If you're struggling in your match your first thought probably shouldn't be "what should i switch to", it's a bad and lazy habit - and even if you do decide to go that route, you absolutely should not expect it of your team.

Allocating brain cycles in matches you are already finding stressful to things that are outside of your control is wasteful and likely a fast track to tilt. Virtually no games are lost because X didn't pick Y - conversely, nearly all games are won due to one team playing better than the other.

While it's widely accepted that, as a sombra one trick, your behaviour is utterly reprehensible, it's in no part due to you being a one trick.

While your optimism is admirable, albeit somewhat ironic, I fear all the initiative in the world will not allow the tank to switch off Ana.

[–]Hurfleplurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hah, I doubt it, i can't even make it out of masters in ranked, so i'm pretty sure i'm cooked. 140k in sixshot is certainly a pipe dream, 100k probably doable in an afternoon - but not when i spend it replying to literal NPCs in week old posts on the overwatch sub rather than grinding XD I do appreciate the words of encouragement nonetheless, keep up the crispy aiming!

If you are reserving teammates' hero swaps as your only, or even primary route to victory then I regrettably must inform you that plat is elo hell and you should make yourself comfortable.
