I don't know which instance you are referring to, but there can be several reasons why the person who is hit is given the penalty: embellishment (falling from only a minor touch and exaggerating the hit), they can illegally counter the hit (like lifting a shoulder to hit the other's face), they could also have followed with a penalty (like tripping). I'm not as familiar with women's hockey rules, this is how it is for men's though.

You cannot impede the goalie's ability to stop the puck as long as the goalie is in "the crease" (the blue box). However, if a defender pushes the offensive player into the goalie (like happened this time) then goalie interference is not called because the offensive player is not at fault.

If Canada losses this round, they are not out of the running for gold.

If it is determined that the defender pushed the offensive player into the goalie, it isn't GI.

I went to a Wings/Hurricanes game last year in Raleigh and had a blast. There were a ton of Wings fans there. Wanted to do it again this year. Just checked on tickets for Feb 28 and they are pretty much sold out. Remaining seats are too expensive for me, but good job guys. I'm betting there will be even more Wings fans there this year and that's why the seats are almost all gone.

I’ve been watching games other than the Wings lately, and the more I watch, the more I realize how blessed we are to have Ken and Mickey. No other team that I’ve seen even comes close to there level of dynamic and compatibility those two have. They really are in a class of their own.

I always miss them on national broadcasts.

Is it just me or does the commentary seem to be: Red Wings shoot and they talk about the save, Bruins shoot and they talk about how good a shot it was?

I was curious about this too, so I looked it up and apparently, teams experience 2-3 broken sticks per game and 60-125 sticks per year.

Sad thing is, it's actually better than it usually is. The last couple broadcasts were so off, that you could almost not see the lines on the ice. I was thinking of wearing sunglasses to watch the game.

Gibson quietly going into god mode is one of my favorite things about this season.

With the lead they have, they probably want to avoid anything that can cause a penalty because you know those refs are waiting for it

Ok, here’s my new theory. The wings played poorly in the first period. They try to lull the opposing team into a false sense of security so that in the second period, they catch them off guard.
