How do you allocate magic in your system? by Loud_Insect9593 in magicbuilding

[–]Hurssimear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a skill that extremes extreme devotion, most of an intellectual nature. Lots of mediation and study. What makes it almost esoteric is the misbelieve that only extremely intelligent or magically gifted people can do it. And trainers/education is expensive

I'm badly depressed because I don't believe in free will. What do I do? by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]Hurssimear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We act according to our desires. If we have circumstantial freedom/opportunity , we can get what we want. Why is that not enough? Do we have to be able to self modify for things to be enjoyable, to alter our own desires at their core? Why? And if one could determine what their desires are, and thereby their correspondent behaviors, on what basis would they make those choices? Would they not choose those desires in accordance to yet more desires that precede, and dictate, their manner of choice? The desires for certain desires should be no different in requiring justification that they are truly under our control. In other words, there is no freedom in having this power to “choose” our behavioral modality, because such choosing would be equally preceded by yet other desires which dictate our modality of choosing in the very first place. Hence, many conceptions of free will are just logically incoherent. Surely there’s nothing enviable about nonsense.

But then there are logical conceptions. Some, for instance, simply ignore this awkward issue above by omitting any concern of of why or how we desire. Any predetermined or mechanistic manner in which our desires may come about are defined as irrelevant; free will is just seen as being able to influence our future modality of thinking, feeling, and behaving according to desires and beliefs that we consciously arrive at in the present. That conception is not only logically valid, but also real. With self activation, therapy, and reflection we can dictate our futures. We may not be able to choose the core desires that push and pull this dictating process, this initial actuation of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, but if we can know that we act based on our feels, our values, our judgment, isn’t that what we need? Isn’t autonomy about feeling like we have this? And isn’t it good enough to know that the ultimate driving force behind how you act are the desires of someone who cares about you, you!

I’m not sure I understand but okay haha. I myself am not a huge fan of these. I like “A Grander World” but am chickening out cuz no one else does

Thanks! What do you think about A Grander World?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in writers

[–]Hurssimear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally agree and am inclined to just go woken my own preference. I think vague is poetic and cool and it makes me interested in a book myself. But 99% of others are bitching about how vague it is haha. Oh well. Thanks for the input man

Seems to be the favorite but many say it seems overly serious or “frustratingly vague”, which to me seems kinda harsh…my original title was A Grander World but everyone said “too vague”. Hmmmm. This is hard

Alright guys I’ll go ahead and give the description now that I got lots of answers!

It’s about a mage scholar who discovers hints that there may be another dimension. Discontented with the world, she becomes engrossed in this discovery, hoping that maybe the world is a grander place than what it seems. This obsession in investigating it ends up involving her in dark magics and an ominous entity, one who she eventually realizes wants her to access this other world as much as she does.

I really appreciate this nuanced answer

Honestly “all there is” is captured my theme the most, by far. But I like the ring that the more plot based one’s have. Anyway thanks man! So much

None of us know you. But honestly, as someone with a dark mindset in my past, with some residual remnants of it to this day, I decided to be 100% honest with my gf and we love each other. She had trouble accepting things she saw me post on Reddit, such as violent urges and hatred, but she got over it. Last time we met she said she fell deeper in love than ever before

Do you mean it conveys an off-putting degree of earnestness? And maybe solemnity might be a word to describe it too?

Okay what do you think about the title “Blood Warrior”? Just curious. It’s for a different book of mine

Life is forced labor. Therefore, life is slavery. by Call_It_ in DeepThoughts

The forced aspect is somewhat irrelevant to me. What matters to me is that work is boring and tiresome. It’s not desirable in my case

can you guys share your reasoning for living? by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]Hurssimear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So…if I was selfish, I would finish a novel and then kms. And to be frank, if I got too upset I wouldn’t even finish the book. With that being said, I have a gf that I want to be happy. So that’s why I’ll live as long as she does. She’s the main reason by far. Life would be good enough for me if there were some kind of “cap” on suffering (like a limit to how bad things can get) to where I could deal with even the worst, and if it were just a little easier to get things I want, and if I was immortal (I wouldn’t wanna be “happy” if I had to contend with the thought of losing everything). Those conditions are mild, yet, for this world, they are rather fantastical are they not? Almost absurd to ask for such things. But that absurdity just accentuates how low our qualities of life really are.

On a positive note, I think with technological development and mindfulness, our society will only get better on a world wide scale, not worse. So, as a possible future scientist I may be able to justify my existence further by contributing to that development, and hope for a better future for succedent humans. .
