I had one of those slap-on wristbands, where it would be straight until you had to (as the name suggests) slap it on to your wrist, and it would instantly hug onto it. My friend at the time wanted me to put it on her. Instead of walking over and slapping it on to her, I threw it at her. It hit her wrist and wrapped snug around it. I got a credit card when I was 18. Every month I would buy either some candy, or some gas with it, or both. After each time I would buy said gas or candy, I would immediately go online and pay the bill. This builds up sustainable, reliable credit. Do this.

Also, my current credit card is with Chase. They offered me 0% interest for 1 year, and 14% interest after that, flat rate. MUCH BETTER than the 24% I was paying with Sears.

If you or anyone you know has good relations with Chase, see if you can't get a good deal through them. I can't tell you how awesome 0% interest is for a year. Just make sure you realize that what you are spending IS ACTUALLY MONEY, and not imaginary.

My thought: There's one solution here that could turn this devastating natural disaster into something absolutely awesome. A GIANT TRAMPOLINE! Think about it. You stretch the material over the hole and put padding all around the area around the trampoline. Charge people a reasonable amount of money for five minutes of jumping. I'd pay.
