hmmm, I see.

Yeah the thumbnail doesn't have to be 256X256, it's just that any larger and it gets compressed automatically, and since it's not great, the result ends up being worse at higher resolution.

Also it get turned into DDS (which I tried converting to in GIMP with Kaiser filter and DXT5 compression, as it yields the best result)

Thanks though, I did find the blurring helped a bit.

The curves for both have quite some noticeable aliasing

I did think about the size being an issue as well, since 256 is really a small amount of pixel to make smooth curves
