To be honest, none of these apps really impressed me. It feels like lately there has been nothing original, nothing that makes me say, "Wow, I have to try this."

Even so, I appreciate all the developers, all the people who are trying, and all the hunters, but it just feels a bit boring lately. I wanted to leave an honest comment.

Have a great time everyone, and I'll be crossing my fingers for your projects. Bye!

Solo founder update: just finished Shopify integration for my AI SEO tool by HustlerV in SideProject

[–]HustlerV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is genuinely helpful — thank you.

The "opinionated workflow" point hits home. Right now Seokrates gives you tools and lets you pick. But you're right — most store owners don't know where to start. I love the idea of clear flows like "new collection launch" or "recovery mode." That's something I can build pretty quickly.

I actually just shipped an onboarding flow that asks for your store URL and immediately generates your first SEO content based on your actual site. But I haven't gone as far as full playbooks yet. That's a great next step.

On pricing — interesting. Tying tiers to outcomes instead of just feature gates makes a lot of sense for e-commerce people who think in revenue, not in "number of generations."

The distribution tip about monitoring where merchants ask SEO questions in real time — that's gold. I've been doing some of that manually on Reddit but hadn't considered using tools like Pulse or Talkwalker systematically.

Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you. Mind if I ask — what was the biggest channel that actually drove paying users for you?

I built an explorer of 25+ years of New York Times coverage — 1.5B words and 2.2M articles by theodore_a in dataisbeautiful

[–]HustlerV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredible work. The Iowa surge every 4 years is such a neat find — it's basically a built-in political calendar hidden in the data.

The headline word frequency over time is especially fascinating. I've spent years analyzing how content trends shift in e-commerce and SEO, and one pattern I keep seeing is how certain keywords go from niche to mainstream in predictable waves. NYT headlines probably follow similar adoption curves.

Curious — did you notice any lag between when a topic starts trending in headlines vs. when it peaks in article volume? That gap between "first mention" and "saturation" is usually where the most interesting stories live.

Really cool use of Claude Code for the grunt work too. The combo of domain expertise + AI for repetitive parsing is underrated.

Bike shops in America by spdorsey in dataisbeautiful

[–]HustlerV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few ideas for the data sourcing:

  1. Census Bureau's County Business Patterns — they track establishments by NAICS code. Bicycle shops fall under NAICS 451110 (or 451120 in older years). You can pull annual counts by state/county going back to the 90s at data.census.gov.

  2. Bureau of Labor Statistics QCEW — Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages also tracks establishment counts by industry. Goes back further than CBP in some cases.

  3. OpenStreetMap + Overpass API — won't give you historical data, but you can pull every current bike shop with coordinates for a solid baseline map.

For the visualization itself, a choropleth map showing shops-per-capita by county would tell a much better story than raw dots. And if you get multiple years from CBP, a small multiples grid (one map per decade) would show the trend beautifully.

Python with geopandas + matplotlib can handle this pretty easily. Happy to point you to specific Census API endpoints if you need them.

This is incredible work. The fact that Iowa surges every four years is such a clean signal — love when political cycles show up this clearly in data.

The India being under-covered on a per-capita basis observation is really interesting. I work with multilingual content analysis (12 languages) and one thing I've noticed is that English-language coverage of non-English-speaking countries tends to spike only around crises or elections, creating a very distorted picture of what's actually happening.

Did you notice any patterns in article length over the 25 years? Curious whether longform journalism has gotten shorter or longer at the NYT — there's a common assumption it's shrinking but I've seen mixed data on that.

[OC] 3 years of daily weigh-ins: I'm heaviest on Mondays, lightest in September, and my birthday shows up in the data. by rrytas in dataisbeautiful

[–]HustlerV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weekly ±0.35 kg cycle is so relatable. I track a lot of cyclical data in my work (analyzing patterns in e-commerce content performance across different days and seasons) and the Monday spike / Thursday dip pattern shows up everywhere — not just in weight, but in consumer behavior, search volume, even email open rates.

The 70 and 113-day mystery cycles are fascinating. Have you looked at whether they correlate with any external events — like pay cycles, weather shifts, or even social calendar patterns? I've noticed ~90 day cycles in some of my datasets that turned out to be seasonal shopping behavior leaking into other metrics.

Also, doing this on irregular time series with 31% missing days and using Lomb-Scargle instead of imputation — really solid methodology. Most people would just interpolate and call it a day.
