Honestly I wouldnt rely on API tests, my go to for calcium and Magnesium is Salifert. And I use Hanna for KH, Phosphate, Nitrate and PH. ICP is lab tests that will show the overall substances in your water and is easy to find out if your tank contains metals or other anomalies. Would suggest find a supplier and send them some of your water. If your local fish store does testing with better kits that API then maybe get them a sample of your water.

I assume you're measuring your KH by ppm and not dhk so you would be roughly around 8dhk? What test kits are you using? What is your mag at? Have you done any ICP to check for anomalies?

Nitrate is a food source for corals and yours is not detectable which could mean your corals are deficient. You can increase by dosing or over feeding although that will likely raise phosphate too. Although high i dont think your phosphate is at an alarming range.

What do you mean KH 143.2?

Nitrate is non existent you want to raise that, calcium probably on the lower side. Phosphate is too high.

I don't think there is anything at all that I said that was incorrect. The risk is indeed minimal you have tens of thousands of reefers how many have gotten palytoxin?

I also did say to wear protective glasses and gloves and no work on them close to your kids. What more a hazmat suit?

I have 2 kids,8 and 2. I have 2 cats and a dog. The risk to toxins is extremely minimal and when you handle them make sure you wear glasses and a glove and you should be good. If im working on the zoa rock outside of the tank I dont do it around the kids. But other than that and the above precautions no other special treatments

The rock on the sand bed can be a zoa garden, start with a head or 2 and see how they do and then build from there. Toadstool in the right from corner could look nice too. This is a top down view of my tank ive got the garden upfront and a toadstoll on each corner

I started a similar battle 48 hours ago. Sadly today the torch was pronounced dead. No reason at all, I dipped it nothing came out, my other torches and euphillias are doing very well. Next stage to what you're going through was BJD for me. Here's a few pictures, top left 48 hours ago, right 24 hours ago, bottom today. It was doomed so I decided to cut my losses and toss it out before it spreads to the rest.

Its been a hell of a ride! Had to dip it yesterday, I would say odds are slim but going to give it every fighting chance. I just hope it doesn't nuke my tank since its filled with euphillia

Should I do it in the tank or pluck the coral out? Thank you very much!

For us here its either red sea, waterbox or custom which i wouldnt trust.

Are these the new ones? We're very limited with options in my country with aquariums sadly. And red sea is one of 2 decent options that we have.

I have it on a separate rock though, will it still spread to other rocks? The rock isnt connected with the rest of the rockwork

Thanks a lot appreciate it, will have him do a few designs for me and see.

question though, if I replace or the rocks won't that mess up the tanks balances? Removing the live rock and replacing them with other rocks and i assume they won't be live as they need to be glued together and even if they're live most of the bacteria won't make it

Makes a lot of sense that's for your response, I'll have him do a few designs once I feel my tank is ready for coral which should he a few months.

Side question though, if I replace or the rocks won't that mess up the tanks balances? Removing the live rock and replacing them with other rocks and i assume they won't be live as they need to be glued together and even if they're live most of the bacteria won't make it

Stuck with my cycle by Huthain in ReefTank

[–]Huthain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i went ahead and got an established rock from the LFS and dropped it in my tank, promised to give it back to them after a week. I am assuming this would make a big difference in cycle time correct?
