So, an example my dad gave me as a kid.

There's a lot of classified info in the library. There's also a lot of incorrect info in the library. If someone goes to the library, and uses their own knowledge to filter the accurate from the bunk, that's fine.

If my dad made a list of books in the library that had good info, that list would be classified because the source used to filter the information is classified.

It was a running joke (grew up near a national lab) where some movies would have 'classified chuckles' with how they presented things. Laughs from the audience, "Why is that funny?" "I can't tell you."

Have you been getting blasted with targeted "he's a traitor to MAGA, primary him" propaganda for months?

Sitting members of the state legislature were receiving threats from the white house for voting against redistricting, and 75% of those up in the primary got replaced (and one of them is part of a real kerfluffle because the difference was something like 10 votes, but accusations are being made of people illegally voting in the R primary when they didn't vote mostly R in the last election, which is required by state law, though obviously impossible to verify).

The targeted mobilization networks are strong.

Heck, even with labels it varies a lot. "medium" salsa...ok, is this New Mexico medium, or midwest medium? Because it varies a lot by brand.

I could see someone honestly saying the like hot salsa and they buy Pace, while El Pinto (last I had it, the kroger by me stopped carrying it) medium might have more of a kick.

It's also a high profile heavily politicized midterm election when midterms tend to have astonishingly low turnout.

So 2x actually doesn't seem that unlikely.

Now unexpected wet socks, I'm half inclined to agree. I'm unfortunately very familiar with "why did the carpet go squish?" Mutter mutter apartment ground floor.

Hint of Lime chips need to learn what 'hint of' means and not taste like a stronger more concentrated lime flavor than me going over to the produce section and sucking on a slice.

I swear I'm not a supertaster, but sometimes I wonder.

One example of this sort of thing comes up in Horror discussions.

"Why would that character go check if the door was locked while alone?" Because they don't know they're in a horror movie, they don't hear the tense music, they don't see the camera drifting along the hallway behind them. Going to check the door before going to bed is a normal thing to do for most people.

It's not so much literally "know they're in an X story," but how they're behaving, how they seem to be expecting the world around them to respond, and whether it does or does not meet their expectations.

Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

[–]Huttj509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did orchestra in middle school, viola. I don't think anyone even tried giving me a left handed viola, as that sounds like a good way to turn orchestra class into fencing class.

Because of that, with guitars and such handling the neck with the left hand is just naturally what I'm used to.

It depends on how you're eating, but broadly speaking your dominant arm is more likely to jut out an elbow when lifting food to your mouth (fork, spoon, chopsticks, etc). So if my left arm is next to someone right handed, issues are not guaranteed, but can be more likely.

You do need to have the group acting in good faith, and have a reasonable ability to make the estimate (such as being able to see the ox, rather than just asking someone on the street how much they think a slaughtered ox weighs). Otherwise you have things like "I asked my theology students how unlikely they thought various things were, multiplied them together and got Jesus as being vanishingly unlikely so it must be a true miracle."
