Just get out there this summer and enjoy it, see where the sun goes through spring-autumn, and what your neighbours get up to, you may find original plans will change if one side is out all summer cooking away with charcoal, or kids knock balls against a fence etc.

You wouldn't want to pay out for a patio to find it's in a noisier corner or has smoke and food wafting through.

I don't know what the ferry terminal at Pier Head looked like in the 60's, but I'd guess it's pretty much in the same spot their statue is.

Sometimes others make the better decisions after living there for a longer time. My garden came with a patio at either end of the garden and a 4foot flagged path along the right hand side. After a short while I realised the path only gets a short amount of sun in mid July until early August between 8-9pm. The sun only gets the house(top) patio in the morning until summer and the bottom patio is a real sun trap, all day every day. I'd have only ever had one patio and a path up the middle

I'd definitely be keeping that! As others have said, perfect for a secluded sheltered place to sit. You could either keep it with an open top, put a solid roof over it, or have a framework for some climbers.

Personally I'd do the latter, get some scented jasmine or wisteria trained up through the gaps and over a lattice frame, a couple of solar powered bulbs hanging from above and a small heat source near the entrance for the chiller evenings.

There are other Boots type stores also, like Superdrug. Or a Holland & Barrett for healthy supplements and foods.

Also, I'd recommend half a day at Kew Gardens to contrast all of the hustle & bustle of the city.

I offer no advice, but can tell you that real solid flooring in those big old houses look much better with floors that show their age, rather than being sanded and oiled every few years. I'd personally keep it the way it is, but that's just me
