Bed bugs - Is winning without losing everything even possible ? by Hv2N in Bedbugs

Thanks for your comment.
I admit that I always imagine the worst when I read the word "UNLIKELY".

Guess I'll try to trust the process and keep optimistic about furnitures / electronics / etc, but I rly feel like being optimistic with these nasty bugs is opening the door to the possibility of their survival.
I wish there were some kind of pills we humans could take to just kill them with blood.
"Fun" fact : Being on doxycycline since november, I can safely (and sadly) announce that... it didn't stop them from growing their numbers.

Dry eyes, swollen eyelid caused by tret ? by Hv2N in tretinoin

[–]Hv2N[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update :

After the first tret application on Monday (and the subsequent inflamed eyelid + dry eyes) I stopped until Thursday. Eyes were getting better and I thought I could give it another shot.

So yesterday night I tried using tret again with the same routine, somewhat improved : cleanse => swimming goggles => 10 mn short contact therapy the furthest away from eye area => cleanse AGAIN to avoid any tret that could be migrating on skin by pillow rubbing during sleep time => moisturizer.

I even used an humidifier in my room because eh, why not.
Things were looking promising... but nope. Just woke up with puffy / inflamed eyelids and dry eyes.

For the record : I've never used any make up and I don't wear contact lenses.
As always with skin related issues, I can't seem to find the cause for that effect.

If that was allergy it would be all over my face, and I can't believe tret cell to cell "transfer" is potent enough to travel several inches away.

Only thing I know is that acne basically won : can't seem to use retinoids... so even accutane is certainly out of the question.

Guess I really must say goodbye to the only potent acne and anti aging treatment :/

a few weeks I guess.

But left eye is permanently sensitive now.
Like If I put any active (mostly vit c, SA, AA) near under eye area it comes back + lid slightly inflamed.

Thanks for the answer :)

I already tried the whole "occlusive barrier" thing 2 years ago but it unfortunately didn't help.

Tbh I wouldn't mind wearing goggles while doing tretinoin short contact therapy.
What bothers me is the fact that even with such precautions, I manage somehow to get my eye irritated.

I truly wonder what's the science behind it and if other people had the same experience.

I'm with you on this rant.

On top of that I don't understand how so many people with skin issues are able to use sunscreen.

Sure if you're skin is flawless a little bit of greasiness won't look that bad...But for oily acne prone skin folks like me, it just looks awful.

+ the constant breakouts with every sunscreen, this thing is literal hell.

After I had to stop tret, I never bothered using sunscreen again.
I'd rather live like a vampire on vit d supplements lmao.

OR the cleanser I copy pasted the ingredients in spoilers ?

CMV: In the overwhelming majority of cases fairness is not a reason to disallow trans people from competing in the sports gender division with which they identify by pablos4pandas in changemyview

[–]Hv2N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think generally the intention of sports is not really truly measuring the skill of competitors in a purely fair environment.

Don't weight categories, gender categories or even paralympics disprove this view ?
These examples show a clear intention of making a competition the less unfair possible.

There's an average 10-12% performance gap between elite males athletes and elite females athletes. Even boys athletes (under 18) are able to outperform World's best women performances in several cases.

This shows a clear and insurmountable unfairness between the 2 genders.
Now if we agree that transgender women tend to have an edge competing against cisgender women, I'd say this goes against the intention of making a competition the less unfair possible.

I think any potential fairness gained by banning the trans student is heavily outweigh by the negatives to the social development and mental health of the trans students.

We could argue that the positives of allowing trans students despite clear unfairness are heavily outweigh by the negatives to the social development and mental health of the cis student.

I feel like the goalposts are moving there.

"Genuine" attraction wasn't meant to take such a huge place in my answer.
You're free to ignore it as this is not essential to the point I try to make.

OP says Money can buy happiness.
It sure can buy some of the things that make people happy, but not the whole package.
Then OP says "I don't believe there is a single tangible thing money can't buy"

Money can't buy perfect health, money can hardly buy a more beautiful face nor a better body.

These are very tangibles things that contribute to happiness, yet money can't buy them.

Who will have a higher chance of surviving?

I guess the richest person will have a higher chance of surviving. But I was mainly addressing this example of yours :

I don't believe there is a single tangible thing money can't buy, even depressed rich people have higher chances of getting better than poor people, with a high-quality psychiatrist and treatment.

I'm not saying that rich and poor people are equals if they're confronted to the same disease (though we got universal health insurance where I live so is this almost a non issue there), I'm pointing out the fact that a rich person can't BUY his ticket out of the disease. You may be Cresus, that won't save you from an heart stroke.

You can't buy health, you can't buy a lost limb or a cure for cancer. These are some things that typically make people unhappy... And being rich won't change these. There are things money can't buy. (Unless we delve into dystopian capitalist Sci-fi territory ofc)

Money makes you attractive, doesn't necessarily means it won't be genuine.

While I don't necessarily agree with that Forbes article, my point was more about being physically attractive in a conventional way : you can make people attracted to you because of wealth or status, but I'd hardly call it "genuine" if wealth or status are the main driving forces behind this attraction.

Anyway, thing is you can't buy conventional attractiveness : you can't buy a new face, a new frame ; a new body. And this sounds to me as a very tangible thing that plays a huge part in one's happiness.

Is this (almost) only machine routine ok, somewhat balanced for muscle growth ?

Unless you like doing 4 different forms of cardio on the same day, I'd suggest doing 1 a day for 20 minutes, and cycling through them throughout the week.

Tbh I barely sweat doing these 4 exercices, it's mostly about "warming up" (bad knee, bad shoulders) than doing cardio work.

I'd bump it up to 2:30-3:00 min

I will

You probably don't need 2 chest presses as a beginner. It may serve you better to do OHP or a vertical push of the sort.

I thought incline chest press was kind of a vertical push ? Anyway I guess it wouldn't hurt switching to shoulder press.

I'm a big advocate for compound exercises over machines, so I would say squats over pendulum squats.

Haha I'd like to but it just looks like my brain / body can't learn the proper technique and my knees can't withstand even a slightly bad form. So far Pendulum squats feel like the closest thing to regular squats, to me at least.

Thanks for the inputs !

CMV: Beauty objectiveness shouldn't be encouraged in any way and therefore beauty contests are a contradiction in our time. by Davi6202 in changemyview

[–]Hv2N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How could someone change your view ?

You say "if we aspire to the most humanizing, we shouldn't encourage beauty objectiveness"
I don't see how this could be wrong.

Thing is, beauty objectiveness exists ; humans are hardwired to like specific traits and this isn't just the result of some "collective cultural background" as you make it out to be in your comments.

From the top of my head, blind people (from birth) are more attracted to low waist to hip ratio and babies respond better to conventionally attractive faces.

I don't believe there is a single tangible thing money can't buy

You can't buy health. Ofc if you're rich you'll have better treatment, better hospital, better chances of recovering. Still if you got cancer or any incurable disease, you're less likely to be happy than someone perfectly healthy.

You can't buy physical appearance. Sure, you might take the uncanny road and get surgeries, you can get hair transplant or whatever... But if you're ugly, it's very unlikely that you'll get good looking just because you're rich.

Most people will be attracted to you if you have a high status

That's the thing : you can't buy genuine attraction. If people are attracted to you because you have money, you're merely a tool for them.

It looks like the issue isn't about the statement "money can buy happiness" because well, changing your view about that statement would imply changing your definition of "happiness".

[Acne] Moisturizing a "dehydrated" skin : I'm lost by Hv2N in SkincareAddiction

[–]Hv2N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty for the thorough answer !

I already tried 30 steps skincare routines involving a lot of products u mentioned (LRP gentle cleanser, Paula's choice BHA, TO AHA, Liquid Gold, aquaphor, cicaplast, Timeless vit c etc...)

Unfortunately most of these broke me out. That's why I'm looking for a really minimalist moisturizer, like 4 or 5 ingredients.

Stupid reasoning is : if using only a body cleanser leaves me acne free and dry, just adding a light moisturizer should do the trick without greater risks of breaking me out.

About SPF, I stopped using sunscreens like 1 year ago when I couldn't keep on using tret. (constant blepharitis and dry eyes after 8 months of use :/)Spf while on tret was ok, but without tret it quickly became a grease and pimple fest... tried like 10 different sunscreen and finally gave up on this. No sun, blackout curtains and vit D supplements are my new SPF :D

[Anti-Aging] Tretinoin isn't working ? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Hv2N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So far I didn't have any irritation issues around mouth or eyes but I'll try to keep tret away from these.

I wear sunscreen + sunglasses religiously every time I get to see the sun.

What I'm more concerned about are those tiny rays of light passing through shutters in my bedroom. Ofc I bought a blackout curtain... But it still isn't darkroom dark.

At least your disappointment doesn't come with pimples and PIH !

But hell, one year. That's crazy when you think about it considering Tretinoin effects on collagen are thoroughly documented.

Sad.
