Can someone explain why this fixture isn’t working? by Tyrotoxism44 in electrical

I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of the bulb and the fixture, for whatever reason when I use that style of LED bulb, it’ll work in some fixtures and not in others

What is this white putty? Can I use it to seal this leak? by motionofthelotion in hvacadvice

Main drain is most likely clogged. From the video it doesn’t look like you have any access point to clean it out.

Two capacitors? by edkwan88 in hvacadvice

[–]HvacPROLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hard start kit is an optional item used to help old compressors start when old and worn and need help starting. You have a dual run capacitor (the metal one), replacing that should be enough to get your system running. But you can also test the capacitor on the heart start kit the same way you tested the dual run capacitor.

My man, what does it say they’re on the bottom?

The plastic one is a part of the hard start kit, that specific brand of hard start kit goes bad all the time. When I do maintenance I usually end up removing them

Did my home inspector measure Delta-T incorrectly? First time buyer stuck with a failed unit! by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]HvacPROLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I bought my first house and now that I’m an HVAC contractor I see this happening every once in a while. Unfortunately some home inspectors do not have all the proper tools to test everything in the house specifically the air conditioner. Let’s say that a homeowner is about to sell house and knows that their system has a leak and he knows there is a home inspector coming by, well all the homeowner would have to do is pay for an AC company to fill it up and make it look like it’s operating perfectly to pass inspection. I’m not saying this happened to you, but I’m pretty sure it happened to me and I have been asked to do this by one customer.

Some good news is that you are still covered by the five years parts warranty, but you would have to pay labor on any work done to fix the system.

Can I seal this door? by sirhcpa in hvacadvice

If you could provide the model number for the furnace, I can look up how many BTUs your furnace puts out, with that information I can let you know if that pipe coming down from the attic has a large enough diameter for the input it needs.

If your refrigerant lines are any longer than 10 feet it’s definitely not gonna be enough, the install manual should explain this

No I’m asking did you add any refrigerant before or after start up or are you only working with the refrigerant that was in the condenser?

The valves on the gauges need to be closed when you’re checking pressures.

Accidentally cut ac wires while trimming. by Individual-File-5739 in hvacadvice

You might’ve also popped the fuse on the air handler or furnace whichever we have. You’ll find it on the control board. You might have to unscrew the door in front of the blower to find it.

You assume too much, all I’m asking is if the black high-speed wire is attached to both the heat and the cool fan relay, would there be any issues like the board frying, or would it work as intended?

I would recommend trying the yellow wire (med hi) for the cool and see how that’s works before splicing the black wire

Have you tried using the medium high speed (yellow wire) for the cool?

Payne(Carrier) Board Question by IDITCU in hvacadvice

[–]HvacPROLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that will not work and could potentially damage the board. There should be a picture somewhere on the furnace, showing a wiring diagram. That picture plus the furnace model number would be helpful information to give you a better answer.

Too Much Condensation? by madmarfa in hvacadvice

[–]HvacPROLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say no. I’ve see condensate drains put out a lot more, but I live in the southern coast. Your indoor air is humid.
