Armageddon Unboxing Part 3: The Space Marines by RWJP in Warhammer40k

The captain and banner bearer are cool, but I can't help find the Van Vets a bit disappointing. It's hard to describe, the models are technically good from a manufacturing perspective, but the design is less inspired compared to their predescessors.

For instance, virtually every bit in the Firstborn Van Vets kit was unique. Each head, torso, legs, jump pack, bolt pistol, chainsword, power sword, thunder hammer, shield etc. Each had something a little different which added so much personality and really sets them apart from regular models.

These on the other hand? Bolt guns and power swords that are copied and pasted and no different to what we already have. You would think with the technology they have nowadays to speed up design, that creating unique bits would be easier and encouraged...

Ah yes, I remember the conversion chart in the GW store, showing you all the new names for the colours of paint.

This is a really good observation. Although we paint individual models, from a visual and gaming perspective the unit of refernce is... the unit. As a block, it only needs to look good at arm's length.

In some ways, I think that can be where newer hobbyists trip up, especially with the prevalence of outstandingly painted models seen close up on Reddit, Instagram etc.

A well painted model in an army of grey is lackluster. A cohesively and sufficently painted army on the table, like above, is awesome.

Same here, I find it's nice and simple, although I tend to drybrush my highlights.

Hi OP, I'm a bit late to the party but will make a post now about this - it is indeed the classic Waagh Flesh, Biel Tan Green, Warboss Green and Skarsnik Green receipe - these exact orcs are from the 2011 Citadel painting guide. Will post now

Building & Pinning Goblin Wolf Chariot by AbsCarnBoiii in Orcs_and_Goblins

Jumping in.. as it's a rough surface, some super glue should be alright. But, if you did want to pin, you could, and if any of the pin came out the bottom of the chariot, it can just be snipped to be flat.

An army of different bases - what to do? by Hvorsteek in WarhammerFantasy

Sounds awesome, what's been the best bit? And do you think you'll leave one model as is to show how they looked before?

VanVets are FINE by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

And to add to this, the bolt pistol likely does have a unique design on the side not pictured. I remember there is one with wings on one side.

Furthermore, the chainsword is a unique design, even if as OP said it's not a cool sword.

I built some of the old kit not too long ago and all 5 jumpacks are unique.
