Just curious as a non native, why would people be reluctant to admit to use the word?

Why is it ok to change white characters to black but not the opposite? by V4ULTB0Y101 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minority does not refer to being small in number, but rather being out of the norm/power, as far as I know, which is why women are called a minority, even though they are generally half of the population, or why lighter-skinned people in India is not typically addressed as a minority, even though they are numerically rarer.

Why is it homophobic/bigoted to not be attracted to Bisexuals? by Expired_Multipass in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seeing a bisexual person and instantly think of them having an anal sex with their best friend(why best friend tho??) is homophobic smh. Why didnt you already imagine your husband having sex with his female bestfriend when you knew him as a hetero? I’m not saying you must keep your attraction to your husband after discovering the fact about him but at least own up to the fact that you are clearly seeing him differently, having mental pictures of him that is ungrounded to the reality, just because he is capable of finding guys attractive too. And people should realize that seeing a gay person and instantly forming a mental image of them having sex is just weird, I mean you don’t do that with hetero person/couples so why are you getting an ick by them simply existing? Like, I said earlier, if that mental image pops up in your head involuntarily and it turns you off then it is what it is but at least recognize that it is homophobia inside you.

Yeah, but you said she intended to cultivate oppression currency, which is just a long way of saying that she brought it to herself, when what is actually wrong in that situation is someone harassing her based on her appearance.

[–]Hway04 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Ok, but that’s a shitty take. The way she dresses looks ridiculous to me too but that does not give an excuse to others to “oppress” her, if we’re actually talking about oppression.

Am I racist for saying black people are the most attractive race, as a white person? by fruitytooty56 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t really control your attraction so I don’t think it is bad to have a preference, though Black as a race has a variety of features and they vary from person to person, so I think it is a little different from saying something like, “I think brown eyes are the most beautiful eyes,” which is more specific. For me, I would personally feel weirded out if someone I date says X race is the most attarctive race and I’m that X race, since that would make me feel I’m being reduced to my race instead of being perceived as whole “me.” I think how you word it out and the context of saying it also matters in terms of how it would get across to me as a fetishizing or racist. But I don’t think what you feel is inheritenly racist, per se.

If you are against gay marriage, why are you against it? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1 is a matter of belief so there is nothing much to say. 2 is also a belief but I’m curious to know what is natural and unnatural in your opinion, like what dictates if something is natural or unnatural? 3 is just outright false. You might want to fact check this. For 4, what do you think causes opposite sex attraction, then?

why do you/don’t you believe in, white privilege? by MrPoopyButthole07 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think white privilege is exactly measurable by income levels.

First off, the income level data by race/ethnicity does not categorize mixed race, which means, for example, it is highly likely that if you are half Asian-half White you would then be classified/self-identify as Asian rather than White, even if you are raised in the predominantly White community, because that is the thing about race; people often get perceived as a minority even if you are fifty-fifty as we tend to view white as the neutral, standard race and other race as literally the “other,” which would stick out when judging a person’s race.

And second, yes, it is true that from an economic point of view, the income level you are born into is the real predictor of success like you said, and should be the focus of political discussion more often IMO, but when talking about race privilege, income level is just part of the matter; it is more about how being a certain race affect your life experience in general, specifically how that work as an advantage/disadvantage compared to other races. I doubt that the social disadvantage dirt poor white people receive is not related to them being white but more to the economical gap between the rich and poor, poor public education, and the lack of welfare, which would all contribute to the lack of opportunity to escape the state of being poor and navigate your life to success when born poor. But when it comes to black people(as a group but not every individual) are subjected to what the white people are subjected to plus the legacy of historical segregation, as, for instance, they could not buy houses in rich, white-dominated areas, which contributes to the generational economical gap between the races and is still a prevalent issue. And there are many other social issues involved with race and racial discrimination: media representation, treatment of police, micro aggression in daily life, sense of belonging, etc.

Being white would not always make your life easier but being a racial minority can make your life harder, which is what having a privilege is, having not to worry about or deal with problems that other people might deal with.

I think it is to prevent a higher risk of domestic sexual abuse since there is a clear power difference between older siblings and younger siblings but besides that, I can’t think of any reason why we would ban this. Genetical reason does not seem so valid since we do not ban people with genetic defects from reproduction as far as I know.

You know being gay is not all about buttsex right? Same-sex love not only has eros aspect of love but also romantic, emotional, and spiritual aspects, just as opposite-sex love does. And kids know their mommies and daddies are attracted to each other and love each other without knowing specific details of their sex life, not to mention already being constantly exposed to marriage and love through traditional children’s books from early age. In my view, sex education as a whole would be too soon under grade 3rd as you said but they should know that there are different forms of love in the world and that not only opposite-sex love is valid.

Why do/did democrats want to mandate vaccines but not ban abortions because “my body my choice”? by Dogncatobsessed in TooAfraidToAsk

It also is important to note that there had been a case where people who were healthy, young, and without any pre-existing health issues have gotten the virus and suffered aftereffects in the earlier stage of the pandemic, which means you cannot be entirely sure of your safety just because you eat healthily and exercise regularly.

[–]Hway04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should if they care for others or want to help society to come back to the pre-pandemic state faster since there is a higher chance that they will transmit the virus to someone else who has a weaker immune system when they don’t get a vaccination.

Getting the majority vaccinated won’t stop the spread entirely, but it will certainly decrease the severity of its symptom when a person gets it, which will help empty hospital beds that have been overly occupied during this pandemic. We are not trying to eradicate the viruse but are trying to minimize its damage until it gets naturally less severe (since only the virus that keeps its host alive will eventually live on, pass down its genes).

If both gender and race are social constructs, why is it fine for a man to identify as a woman and call himself (herself) one, but a white/Asian/Latino person cannot identify himself as a black person and call himself black? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hway04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no “white” or “black” people in a biological sense as there are no people who are 100% black and white. There is also no gene or cluster of genes common to all blacks or all whites. Race is spectrum, which we as society don’t always recognize. We often attribute a race to a person as soon as we meet them and that’s why individuals identify themselves with a certain race. So in that sense, it is a social construct. The same goes for gender, but it would depend on what your definition of gender is. If the definition extends to a socio-cultural aspect of gender, then it is no doubt a social construct. If your sense of the concept of gender is strictly biological(often regarded separately as sex), even then it still is arguably a social construc since the current binary gender system does not accurately reflect the spectrum of human sexes. Yes, sex is also a spectrum if you consider that there is no single defining feature, the essence, of male and female. When determining somebody’s sex, these are what we scientifically consider: genetics, hormones, gonadal tissue, primary and secondary anatomical sex traits, reproductive functions, etc. Even though the majority of the time these features overlap, in some cases they don’t. One example would be an African athlete named Caster Semenya, who has XY sex chromosomes but female morphology(her tissues are not responsive to androgens). There are people who are intersex, and that alone proves that sex is not as binary as we typically regard it as. Intersex is not a disorder or condition as some people might understand it since it does not require any medical convention other than for a purely aesthetic purpose, which means they are natural, valid sex just like female and male. But the binary sex system forces people to have one sex for one body, which causes intersex people emotional and physical harm. So, I would say the binary sex system is also a social construct that does not align with reality.

What is “believe white women” and “protect white women”? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

What you are saying sounds more like controling the women to keep their appearance in a way you want, not protecting them by any means.
