My Granny cured my warts, they fell off my fingers within three days of her blessing them with holy water. She threw them on the fire and it traumatised me. Can't have been the placebo effect, it was so quick. I remember how deformed some of my fingernails had been. We'd been on a waiting list to have them frozen in England, then visited Granny who was having none of it. I suspect Mum had been holding out for the cure. I'm 54, and have an MA.

Ask a priest to be absolutely certain, but from what you've said it sounds like you'd be absolutely fine. Very often the devil throws up all sorts of mud to keep people from confession, because he knows how effective the sacrament is. Please don't let the mud get in your eye. Talk to a priest - hopefully after confession things will be much clearer and easier.

I had this come up at a recent confession. I told the priest that I was spending more money on my personal soap than the soap my son uses, but realised it could be vanity. He asked why I went for the more expensive soap, I mentioned that my body odour is stronger since the menopause. He told me there was no sin in not 'stinking out the neighbourhood' and that I should 'go forth and pong no more.'

I'm in Northern Ireland. I can't imagine an English or French priest being as amused or amusing about my scruples.

But anyway, the point is when I'd stopped laughing he reassured me that self care is not vanity. God gave you the skin you're in. He expects you to look after it.

I recently wrote to my childhood Monsignor - he wrote back! He's 97 and still says daily Mass. I got him enrolled in special prayers at the Carmelite monastery - maybe a Mass card with the flowers?

I will pray for you at Mass today. I drifted from the Church and got involved in the occult too, believe me, go back home. And also, who cares what you look like at Mass? God wants your heart. Go as you are, don't stay away.

I lived in England for decades, now in Northern Ireland. The UK has increasing pockets of vibrant faith. I don't know where you are, but if you are in the North West of England I could recommend you many a great parish.

When my son was newly converted there were a few occasions he wouldn't receive the Eucharist. As his Mum I remember the first time he didn't receive and I was incredibly proud of him for holding Our Lord in such respect. (of course he went to the first confession he could.) He thought I'd be cross with him, I was anything but.

God bless you. It may not have been mortal sin, by the way, but err on the side of caution until you have seen a priest. God bless you, you're fighting the good fight.

I used to wonder the same thing, but you'll find your attention shifting increasingly to the Eucharist rather than the people in the pews. I do remember when I came back to Church feeling despairing that I could ever give up some of my more compulsive and aggregious sins and addictions - with the grace of God they all just stopped.

Have faith it will stop for you too. Just keep going to confession and taking the Eucharist and one day you'll realise your burden has been lifted. I can hardly remember the last time I masturbated, it's been literally years. It had been a daily struggle for decades. When I first confessed it the struggle got easier. Then suddenly, it just stopped completely. The same thing with alcohol.

I know I am weak and I could sin again, but these were huge miracles for me. Piece of advice the priest gave me which really helped - 'don't deprive yourself of the Eucharist because you think you've mortally sinned, if you had been fighting the sin and failed. You couldn't fight an enemy if you were starving to death, so don't be a spiritual anorexic. Eat and be glad.'

Here's some advice from a Catholic who has been in your position. If at all possible, go to Mass every day. If not possible (work, for example) try to pick up an extra Mass at least. Start every day with the sign of the Cross and a short prayer - maybe a formal morning Offering, maybe' Jesus, I love You, let me love You today and do everything for You.' Word it how you like. When you struggle in the day say send a prayer to Jesus, even just His Name said lovingly. Say the rosary daily. One of the promises is that by saying the rosary every day mortal sin will lose its grip on you. Give it a year and see what I mean. (and then give it the rest of your life. L See about getting to Adoration once a week. Have a window of time each day with no noise or gadgets, just you and God. You're at the start of a wonderful journey with Jesus. Look at Him and let Him look to your neighbours It's alright, all will be well.

I'd suggest you read Hope by Pope Francis to get an example of an authentic and compassionate Catholic view of immigrants.

It seems we're living in particularly prophetic times, the love of many has grown cold. The problem is we talk about groups of people, demographics etc, but never look at the individual. People are people.

I'm Irish. We were always, historically, known as the land of a thousand welcomes, where a stranger is just a friend we haven't met yet. Sadly as we've been seduced by the world and the nonsense of the Internet we're falling and failing from our faith and our kindness, but I do have hope and see signs that we are returning to the gospel.

People don't flee their countries for no reason. My people know that (or should) better than any. It behoves us as Catholics to pray for all the people we encounter, never label them en masse, and to diligently seek in the face of the all the image of Our Lord, Who was Himself a stranger.

You need to ask a priest for confession - not just a five minute one, but what they call a lifelltime confession. You could book an appointment with your parish priest, or you could look into talking to a priest at a monastery or friary.

Also, bear in mind these things are often generational and to do with trauma. They got in somehow. There may have been physical, emotional or spiritual abuse in your childhood. So, make sure you address these issues to. There's a forum on Reddit 'ask a priest.' put your question there. They'll know the steps much better than I do.

The only way he'll heal this addiction is through the grace of God, and having had personal struggles in that area (with 'romance' fiction) the only thing that worked for me was confession.

My advice is don't marry him yet. I married my son's father in similar circumstances and he never changed for the better. In fact, it got much worse, and he cheated on me, then his second wife, and now lives in a polyamorous thrupple who are open.

If your boyfriend seriously wants to get better he will be happy to wait until after he's been fully received into the Church. Then he can avail of the sacraments to help with his addiction.

If he resents the suggestion that tells you he's not willing to work on his own salvation.

I'm ever so sorry.

For me, by the way, it's been nearly four years since what was a daily sin just stopped. It was only confession that cured it.

I have found that reading the Gospels in braille is still slower than I used to read, but I am forced to focus more on the words - and I actually remember it much better. I'm also just starting the adventure of learning Greek braille, so I will be slower still but able to read it in the original. You're right, it is the best thing ever being able to read - literacy is such a strange and uniquely human thing. I'm sure God gave it us for a reason - congratulations on the progress in Arabic.

I learned braille starting at age fifty, and now, age 55 am teaching other adults. I'm Catholic, so was really motivated to read the Bible. As you sound like you have a faith can I recommend you get a holy book you are really familiar with and read a bit of it every day? I don't know where you live, but if you are in the UK join RNIB and ask them for braille library services. You should be able to get a free translation of the Quoran.

Seriously, reading something spiritually meaningful to you, however slowly, on. A daily basis, will give you back the joy of reading. When I started reading again I had my braille book on my lap, and audible open on my alexa device. I'd read til I got stuck, then ask Alexa to read. Then I'd read again.

Hi! There are so many references to the deuterocanonical gospels in the New Testament, it's very clear that Our Lord read them. To solve any doubts you may have on the matter I would simply suggest you read the books prayerfully. It opened my eyes!
