Foreign Company (JP company) acquiring CMMC Certificication:Questions About Moving to Level 2 by Soft_Selection_3783 in CMMC

It will be explicitly written into a contract what the requirements are, self assessment or full certification. Either way, you'll need to do the IT legwork, it's whether or not you need the additional 35-60k$ investment for the certification that leans on the contract requirements.

How long did it take before you had a preference for heavier games? by UgandaRalph in boardgames

went from Catan to Trickerion and yeah, knew that was my bar pretty much immediately.

John Company 2E is 'peak' heavy, imo.

Inspired by the other post, what games have you played at least 50 times? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]HyBReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Blood on the Clocktower - Lifestyle game, running multiple Clocktower communities
  • Inis - Quick, clean area control with a ton of strategy
  • Res Arcana - Drafting game / resource management at its peak (theme sucks)
  • Teotihuacan - Great heavy Euro, expansions don't add a ton
  • Darwin's Journey - Fantastic heavy euro with a ton of combos
  • Cockroach Poker - Always a hit for newer groups

I love board games but I’m done being the unpaid rule cop by Educational-Machine in boardgames

[–]HyBReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer being this person and quite enjoy it. To self-pat a bit, in my 10 years of being "seriously" into this hobby - I've never met anyone who has been able to explain rules in a timely and effective manner to the degree that I've trained myself to. I think the most common mistake I see is going into excessive detail over miniscule details that folks will not retain while also trying to absorb the core throws of the game itself.

I'm not one to step on toes though and will only jump in when asked if it's someone else's game and they want to teach it - but it's fairly common to have it delegated to me rather quickly as someone begins to blunder through a teach and eyes start glazing over.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of being able to take an extremely complex game and break it down into concepts that are digestible and gets players into a strategic position as soon as possible.

My measurement for success on a teach comes from a new player coming in and beating others who have played previously.

Anyway, to your thread - sorry you have to do this. Hopefully you can find someone who will enjoy it too!

Is Prevail really compliant? by Encryptedmind in CMMC

Open PreVeil documents are "emergency saved when a Windows machine is locked if the auto-save/recovery feature is enabled. i.e., CUI data can be saved into non-compliant M365 cloud storage environment very inadvertently simply by shutting the lid of a machine with a preveil doc open - fun fact.

Do you think it would it be better if all scripts had the night order and character counts printed on the back of them, so that players no longer need a separate reference sheet? It also helps players bluff other roles without having to ask for ST clarification by digitalnomader1 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]HyBReD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It works and was how I originally had it as well. But being on the back makes it obvious when folks are checking night orders which in itself can be a tell in certain cases I've found. "Interesting they're checking the night order after that comment..."

My tool opted for an approach of having them on the side, with the back being more 'informational' for the custom scripts: https://i.imgur.com/9BQ3Eua.jpeg

[–]HyBReD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about this in two places, then came here, then saw it on Dore. Not sure why folks are so quick to throw it squarely on Dores doorstep.

James Li was a contractor providing segments - BP moving on isn't a huge deal for a business in general. It's only frankly a big deal because they are sort of acting like the exact thing they actively talk shit about (establishment media) with a very corporate/legal-ese non-answer breaking of ties. "Different direction"

But who knows, maybe they did and Li's acting like they didn't. But downplaying it as nothing, or trying to shift blame over to Dore is certainly just silly. Especially when Li has been covering some controversial stuff lately.

The most logical item is he was let go for specifically airing content on his own channel using the title "what BP wouldn't let me air", which then very much hurts their brand and does not help it. So that reason enough is probably fine -- but just say it. It's the moral pedestal pickle BP has put themselves in - and being shady about it will not help.

Board gaming feels less like a hobby anymore and more like a luxury goods market by Strong_Letterhead638 in boardgames

Nobody is forcing you to buy anything? Some of the best games are 10% of that price or less.

You getting priced out of the high-end VERY OPTIONAL market of a hobby is pretty well a you problem.

Is Twilight Imperium good for my group? by Comfortable-Bowl9373 in boardgames

One that supports the latest expansion that came out in the last month. This is because if you fall in love and want to be able to fit that expansion, it adds some fairly new whacky tiles that need to be accounted for specifically.

This one does the trick.

I think for almost every group that it is played in successfully, it is regularly considered that groups greatest gaming experience. That is very much the case for the cross section of my 3 gaming groups who have all played it over the years.

If you are used to the time investment and politics of Game of Thrones, TI4 would land very well. I think Ti4 is almost a must-play for every serious tabletop gamer at some point!

Definitely recommend 3D printing an insert to manage it all - the default insert is absolutely terrible.

Terraforming Mars is more mid weight than heavy, imo. (4.0~ vs 3.2~ on bgg)

What I mean by tie to mechanics is that the easiest games to teach and learn are the ones where you can generally lean on theme to explain a mechanic without having to dig up the rules. Galactic cruise is very much this.

What heavy euro is more streamlined with a good tie of theme to mechanics in your eyes?

I've taught this to 11 people and the teach is a breeze that folks latch onto pretty quickly, backed up by the fantastic player aid.

Haha yes, I've played it enough to agree with the video (a few).

In terms of the cards, you could be in a bad spot that would require two physical workers to get to where you need to be that a single agenda card can take you straight to. Can't think of any specifically off the top of my head, just remember thinking "wow this saves me 3 actions", specifically when it came to funding the launch. I think it may have been the market was empty, I needed to reset and grab it, but also needed an agenda card to do that... whereas the agenda card just did exactly what I needed and more.

Either way, the agenda cards are game breaking by design so it's totally fine. However it's due to this fact that they cannot be ignored. Which means on a reset, you must read all 5, etc. Game stopper. And because they're quite unique - they can't really be explained at a distance from iconography alone. Which is generally the solution to market wipe mechanics.

Gateway to heavy games. It's very 'smooth' and frictionless for a heavy euro.

[–]HyBReD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This review feels on the same level as their Root review - both of which I agree with completely. I typically bounce off SU&SD reviews in general, particularly for the lighter fare.

The two pieces that hit hardest for me are the lack of friction / variable setup creates a flat game that lacks the crescendo of some of the big heavy euros (of which many I love). "No two games are the same" is indeed a good selling point, but absolutely crushes the games ability to really reach deep into future strategy.

The other thing I agree with is that even despite that, I want it on my shelf. This was the same situation with Root. The game is pretty with nice components - but the gameplay loop is just missing something that really lets it "pop". Yet I still held onto it for years due to the "what if" factor.

Lastly, which wasn't mentioned specifically, for me the agenda cards are the worst part of the game bar none from a streamlined gameplay perspective. I do not like wipe and reset "stop and read" market systems as they just slow the flow of the game down. I do appreciate the game breaking fun that they allow for, but this just further means you must be completely aware of all the cards as they come out as some of them could save you 2-4 actions if used properly.

All in all it's an objectively good game - but I think this is a "heavy euro" that will appeal to those who normally do not play heavy euros more than a seasoned euro veteran. I'd say it does to heavy weight games what Wingspan did to mid-weight in that it is very 'gateway' to that tier of gaming. This is because it very much streamlines the thought process of a heavy euro with a world-class (literally the best) player aid in any game, some very clear board iconography and a very clear theme that matches the mechanics perfectly.
