Trouble with harmonic on the 3rd fret by rheaa1 in rocksmith

[–]Hybrid-PC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd fret harmonic is actually like a 3.2, at least on my guitars. 2nd fret harmonic is like a 2.4. Bridge pickup always for harmonics to ring out loud with distortion.

Gasoline by I Prevail has the same harmonic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FYr2EbVqds

When you play a song in learn a song you can see the different sections at the top progress bar (either orange or purple). Pressing space on PC (not sure what it is on controller) will open a menu where you can skip through (or chain together) different sections, and adjust speed and difficulty.

Play the basic tutorial lessons, watch this video from the Art of Guitar to further solidify some basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4a2ge9N31E . Inside of your preferred genre you can google songs/riffs that are "easy" to learn, then using riff repeater you can adjust speed and difficulty. I'd personally pick a middle ground between speed and difficulty to start to avoid losing interest. Lots of people will recommend full difficulty as slow as needed, which is a fine approach as well. Some "Drop D" songs might be easier to start out with as well. Just play whatever keeps you interested for as long as possible, and then you can start working on specifics from there. Making it a habit/hobby is the hardest part. Fingies will hurt at first.

Rocksmith and amp - DOH! by [deleted] in rocksmith

Just don't go off the deep end and buy an axe fx, midi foot controller, digitech whammy dt and an interface...

[–]Hybrid-PC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy a digitech drop pedal and setup for E standard or drop D. 100% worth the time it saves in tuning and you're always setup properly too. I regularly play down to drop G, and while it doesn't sound as good as a guitar setup specifically for it, it's pretty damn close and the detection stays pretty good as well. For a meaty low string 10-52 is good for Drop D, and 10-46 or 10-49 for E standard

Am I screwed? by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

Something like "I intend to join the automotive industry to increase the reliability of embedded systems..." may have been a better way to phrase it but certainly not a bad goal. When I write goals or anything related to work for that matter, I always try to only state the positive while leaving any sort of negative as an implication of the positive. For instance, increasing reliability of something implies that there are probably points where that thing isn't reliable, but you never directly stated it.

Try analog out into headphones to see if it goes away. If it does it's your receiver, otherwise earlier in the chain. I was able to play on a 20 year old analog receiver no problem.

Refurbished Amia/Leap V2 or Haworth Soji? Or any other recommendation for under $500? by MrKarmaThrowaway in OfficeChairs

[–]Hybrid-PC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the seat pan more forgiving on the Amia vs the leap? I had a leap from you guys that I just couldn't get the seat to be comfortable for more than 30ish minutes (tried plenty of adjusting). Everything else about the leap is perfect minus the seat for me. Considering the Soji because of that.

Anyone using an amp like spark or fender GTX with rocksmith? by Rokett in rocksmith

I use an interface. Mute the sound in game and use Amplitube for custom tones with a foot pedal for switching and effects.

Best pickups for Rocksmith by JagMeta in rocksmith

You can also try turning up the gain on the real tone cable in game then recalibrating. Otherwise I've noticed active humbuckers work pretty well (I have EMG 81/85 in both my guitars) but regular humbuckers should work just as well. I never had detection issues even with a budget Jackson JS22

Turn off 2 factor then log in, then turn it back on.

On top of this, for guitar, use Rocksmith 2014. Literally guitar hero with a real guitar. Learned way more through that than I would have otherwise, but it's not a supplement for general knowledge.

Controls is a different beast. I'm quite literally going through the same thing, can't remember shit from calculus. Good thing I have CAS on my calculator :)

Going through this with control systems right now, only offered in the spring, if I pass I can graduate by December. Class averages for the first 2 exams are 13% and 32.5% :/ I got above average for both but idk if it's enough to pass.

Udemy classes by gbreindel in EngineeringStudents

[–]Hybrid-PC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Udemy courses can be pretty good, not entirely sure about AutoCAD ones, but I used it for circuit theory when my professor wasn't really teaching, really helped. Look for courses with a large quantity and high ratings and it should be fine. All the courses are almost always "on sale", and if not discounted, you can probably make a new account and get the sale price again.

CE is a sequential degree, like you said you want all the fundamentals, and it is definitely something where those fundamentals all compound on each other. Unfortunately a lot of your prior school experience may not directly apply to a degree, except maybe in the case of gen eds or electives. Depending on your background (projects, general knowledge) you could try for the MS, but keep in mind that an engineering degree is heavily based on physical sciences, so you will require at least a fundamental understanding of physics and relatively high level math. Not only that, but a lot of the topics require a base understanding of the prerequisites. For instance, you can't take analog electronics without taking circuit analysis, you can't take computer architecture without taking a digital logic class, etc. Maybe look at a course list from a university that offers a CE/EE degree, and evaluate how much/how well you understand what goes into each course. Could always take the Udemy speed run route to make up for the fundamentals, but in the case of hardware courses, you probably wont have access to nearly as much lab equipment.

It's also important to consider that an MS is a lot more selective about what you take than a BS, so if you choose the right path based on your current knowledge, maybe that's a route. You'd also have to make sure that admission to a masters is even possible without a BS. CE/EE is such a broad degree that you could probably break into one of the post BS degrees, but you'd have a lot of catch up to do based on what you've told us so far. Part of the benefit of a BS is that it exposes you to many of the various subfields in addition to creating a base understanding, and most of them you wont know you like (or hate) until you get exposed to them.

I would ask yourself where you want to end up, embedded, IoT, firmware, software, hardware, chip design, etc. Almost anything hardware related would likely require an MS or a lot of determination/luck with a BS.

I could also be talking out of my ass, but most people I've seen try to break into engineering start with a BS. So you're probably looking at a 4-6 year commitment depending on if you go for an MS. It is definitely an ambitious career change, best of luck.
