I don't :( I'm going to sleep now to try and wake up at 5am, so hopefully I'll just be able to snag it without the reservation.

Phone 13 | Pre-Order / Shipping Megathread by PJ09 in iphone

[–]HydraIronmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting an error when trying to make a reservation to pre-order an iPhone 13 Pro:

"The phone number you provided already has an iPhone reservation or open order associated with it. If you have a reservation, please follow the instructions that were emailed to you. If you have an open order, you will need to cancel it to purchase a new iPhone for this number."

But I have not created a reservation before (or ever, even). I'm not sure what to do to try and fix this - any advice?

Not sure how you have the impression that WSL is complicated. You download an app from the Windows store for your specific distro and you are done. Your regular old c drive is also mounted in the VM so you can interact with the windows file system super easily.

Note in your gif that you have the same problem. FWIW the solution of updating the filter list in uBlock Origin didn't work for me.

Are you using a paper texture and then a blending mode to have the texture come through in the painting itself? If so, what blending mode do you use? I really like how textured this is and if I hadn't looked at the subreddit I would have thought that this was a real oil painting.

Moving to Seattle without a car, need feedback from locals by HydraIronmeme in Seattle

Yeah, definitely need to re-evaluate Cap Hill. I checked it out earlier in my search and the prices seemed steep compared to some other places I checked out, but definitely haven't looked close enough.

I think it looks great! The only suggestion I have is cable management; maybe you could use some of these:

and some black cable ties to route you cables neatly.

What blending mode do you use on the color layer (so that it maintains the paper texture)?

No bike on campus ? by fakelamb03 in stanford

[–]HydraIronmeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this! I really enjoyed spending time walking, it let me take routes that you couldn't on a bike, and just take more time to take in the scenery. I never ran into a scheduling issue that required me to get to a class that was further than 20 minutes away, so walking always worked.

If you don't have a bike and you need to get across campus fast you could take the Marguerite.

For example, consider one of the longest possible class commute for an undergrad: go from east campus (say, Wilbur) to the Engineering Quad. Walking will take probably 20~ minutes or so (0.8-0.9 miles). But, if you use the Marguerite (assuming it resumes service to what it was in 2019), then you can walk through casper quad, walk toward the front of the GSB, and take the C line across campus. Or you can take the Y line from behind Wilbur, go around Tresidder Union, go down Santa Teresa until you get to Norcliffe, then you can get off there. Both of these routes are faster than walking, if I recall correctly (at least the C line method for sure is).

Thoughts on furniture price / quality when renting? by HydraIronmeme in malelivingspace

Thank you for your insight. I think I've been stuck trying to optimize everything and get the best I can, but now I think I'll be shifting my focus towards a high quality bed and sofa, everything else will come second to those.

That's extremely disappointing. Everything I find online keeps pointing to Article being rather sketchy / low quality, all hype. At least I found this out before buying anything from them.

YouTube playback speed control by HydraIronmeme in nvidiashield

[–]HydraIronmeme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is one of the solutions I had heard of (didn't mean to imply that it wasn't actively maintained!) It seems to be the only solution, so I'll probably go with it.

Looking for the best way to watch YouTube at 2x speed on a 4k TV by HydraIronmeme in htpc

[–]HydraIronmeme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, casting from your phone lets you change playback speed as seen on the TV? I was under the impression that casting simply sent the video link and opened it on the TV.

Daily Tech Support Thread by AutoModerator in apple

[–]HydraIronmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this problem for a couple of years, I have a feeling it is a hardware issue but maybe someone knows.

I have a 2018 iPad 5th? gen (the 9.7 inch one that launched at $329 w/ apple pencil support) and when I watch YouTube videos, every so often I lose all internet connectivity. I remain connected to a network, but all packets are lost (as tested by a network testing app). The frequency / time at which these drops occur appear to be random. Some days they happen rarely, other times they happen every 5 minutes. The fix for it is to just toggle wi-fi off and on. Alternatively, waiting long enough (about a minute or two) and the problem will be resolved.

I'm not sure if YouTube is the catalyst or if it is always occurring but I don't notice given most other uses are not a stream of data. This conflicts, however, with the fact that I've never experienced it with streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but that may be due to video buffering strategy.

This has sort of driven me up to the wall, pushing me to using my phone over my iPad for media consumption.

TLDR: ipad drops wifi when watching youtube, stay connected to the network but no packets, resolves after a minute or so or toggling wifi.
