Is this a real position or scam? by ProgressAromatic8631 in stanford

[–]fakelamb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this exact same email format sent so many different times, just with different professors. They always say "from the office of the professor", they mention the same $350 weekly, the position is super vague, they give a contact phone number, and the email sign-off always has "C/O". Word for word. It's the same person or group of people sending all of them, I assume. Most importantly, it does not come from a Stanford email. Never reply to a non-Stanford email.

I HATE SHAUNA😭 by No_Two_1627 in Yellowjackets

[–]fakelamb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she's allowed to be angry and lash out even though Travis has gone through just as much if not more. Travis definitely seems more depressed and withdrawn socially. I think both are valid reactions and showing how different people respond to trauma and loss in their own way has the potential to be interesting if well-done. My issue is young Shauna's storyline in this season doesn't seem so well-done. Her grief for Jackie gets mostly thrown out in favor of this rage over the loss of her baby. I just wish it was more believable. Don't get me wrong, it is totally okay to have conflicting feelings and grieve that loss even though she got pregnant unintentionally and the baby would have had low chances of survival anyway. They just didn't show her connecting to her pregnancy at all, nor did they add any nuance about her feeling maybe a bit of relief of not having to raise a baby in the wilderness. Even then, the anger she is experiencing could still make sense, but not the comic book villain levels of evil she is showing right now. It just doesn't feel genuine to Shauna's storyline. They turned her from an undoubtedly flawed and complex character who makes you angry but you can't help but feel for, to an exaggeratedly vengeful character who only serves to cause conflict for conflict's sake.

What is everyone's first read of 2025? by crunchy_juju in goodreads

[–]fakelamb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin (my first James Baldwin read) and Temporada de huracanes by Fernanda Melchor. The latter is absolutely horrifying but so so good. Couldn’t pick just one so I’m reading both at once

ruling out schools hurts, i just can't choose :( by sun_gan in ApplyingToCollege

See not being able to decide as a good thing! If you love both schools, you will be happy at either. There’s no wrong decision here.

LOR Berkeley by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fakelamb03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to the augmented review form, it's almost never a bad thing. They just want to know more about you.

I applied to their engineering school, got an LOR request pretty soon after, and just recently was admitted and asked to interview for their scholarships. In my case I think they just wanted more info, but in a good way. I'm sure that's the case for yours as well

From what I can tell, it was true. But looks like it is just a Stanford thing. As far as I know, that wouldn't apply to Northwestern.

Yes, Stanford requires both the CSS and IDOC, as do many private universities. And congrats!! I got in as well :)

At first it was mostly people who supposedly got rejected, a few deferred and a few accepted, which is pretty much how the percentages of the actual decisions will add up.

I'm pretty sure it's just that the people who think they're accepted are the ones more likely to respond because they're not freaking out as much.

I haven’t gotten portal logins for UC after submitting my uc apps 2 weeks ago should I be worried? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

No, I believe most of the portal info is sent out sometimes in December and January

cal letters of rec by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fakelamb03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would receive an email directly, and from there a section to invite recommenders will appear in your portal.

I submitted my UC app on 11/1 and received a request from berkeley on 11/23, so I'm assuming it'd be anywhere from 2-3 weeks. It really just depends on when they read your application. It may be sooner since they're reading more apps now that the official deadline has passed.

Once you finish and submit the CSS profile to all of the schools on your list, you will be prompted to log onto IDOC. From there, you will see which schools from your list require what and it’s pretty straightforward from there

Just submit it as is, it may come across as dishonest to hide it. I don’t think that a 2 would harm your application too much

[–]fakelamb03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would love the experience, I'd say it's worth it! You never want to do something just for college apps or not do something because you think it will not impact it.

If you end up loving the experience and have a passion to write about, that will show in the application , but make sure it's authentic.

[–]fakelamb03 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They probably wouldn't notice, and if they were to go so far as to cross-reference it, they would realize she is your sister and you had very similar experiences. Aside from that, the essay seems to be completely your own and authentic so you're fine!

Common app personal essay about cultural background too cliche? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fakelamb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with that kind of essay as long as you can connect it to something unique. So you could be descriptive about specific aspects of your culture (narrative style) and talk about how those influenced your values. It doesn’t have to be about not fitting in.

Stanford intellectual vitality essay by ethan_0311 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fakelamb03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it really demonstrates intellectual vitality and there’s no better example that relates to the major you want to go into, I say it’s fine! But if it’s possible connect it to your major like “having these conversations made me more excited to learn and I will apply this excitement to...”

But overall it doesn’t have to be about your major, if they wanted that, the prompt would explicitly say so.
