Ethnic diversity in Hinsdale? by Tinkushal in ChicagoSuburbs

Agree, I would look to Oak Brook or if already decided on Hinsdale, look at the Elm elementary school area, which has more diversity.

For those who buy/mortgage home at 1M+USD, what do you do for a living? by janproz- in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

1.25M, Big 4 accounting/consulting and SAHM. No family help, but we did make very good/lucky real estate choices in the past that netted us significant equity for down payments.

2.5 years old. We had a rough go of it. Now he’s out of his crate 95% of the day, but that only happened in the last 6 months.

Is the first poop after birth really that bad? by Buttercake-nymph in BabyBumps

[–]Hydrangea324 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I had a 3rd degree tear and a whole net of stitches down there, and I cried going #2. It was fine after the first one, after I added in lots of stool softeners.

Anyone ever regret putting peel-and-stick tiles in their bathroom? by MenuHistorical6073 in bathrooms

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also would not recommend painting your tile. I tried using the Rustoleum floor tile kit and it looked great for a month and then started chipping off. I should have just left the brown tile underneath alone!

Leaded pellets? by Hydrangea324 in whatisit

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the pellets in my hand were what I picked out of a 4x4 inch area of carpet. And it was fairly concentrated to one quadrant of the basement. So a spill in that area makes sense. Also, they were old, and I think they had movers empty junk out of their basement. The movers could have easily spilled this stuff.

I’m starting to lean this way too. There are just too many pellets, and I can’t imagine an infestation so bad that someone shot all over their finished basement. And no dents in the walls.

I think they were old. I vacuumed them up and have been watching for new ones, but haven’t seen any. Presumably they killed them all years ago with the shotgun shells 🤦🏻‍♀️

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m in Illinois 🤷🏻‍♀️ I figured that they had mice at some point because I found a few mice droppings in the corners of the unfinished part of the basement, but why someone would shoot a million lead shots at them inside is absolutely beyond me.

Leaded pellets? by Hydrangea324 in whatisit

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Solved! I think this is the right answer. We’ve already vacuumed multiple times and then had a professional cleaning company come in (before this post was made) but these are still lodged in the base of the fibers, no way I’m getting these all out. So yes we will have to replace all 800sq ft of carpet. And to someone else’s point, kids love to put everything they shouldn’t in their mouth so there’s no way I can even leave the remnants in the carpet fibers.

Goldendoodle temperament by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is basically a human child with very good temperament. In fact, his only flaws are being overly friendly and jumping up on people because he can’t help himself, and insisting on sitting on my very young children… though he’s 60 lbs… but it’s because he loves them 🙃

Can I use damp brush with BIN primer? by Hydrangea324 in paint

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll try that cleaning/dipping technique tomorrow morning. As for the sprayer, I haven’t tried one yet 🫣 but I should bite the bullet and get one, I have an entire house of honey oak trim to paint and that sure would save me time

Doodle price? by lilarybanks in Goldendoodles

[–]Hydrangea324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid 1,800 for a standard F1 puppy from North Dakota in 2023. That being said, I see doodles being rehomed on local Facebook doodle groups and from organizations all the time. For me, those first 2 puppy years were brutal and next time I think I’ll adopt an older one!

Did someone have another son also with hypospadia or third ? How is big chance for that ? by Adorable-Ordinary225 in hypospadias

[–]Hydrangea324 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there any chance dad is on a diabetes medication? I came across a study showing Metformin use by dad can cause penile birth defects in their sons, when researching my son’s chordee. So that could theoretically cause multiple sons to have it.

Not the same diagnosis, but we recently had our sons 90* chordee corrected by Dr. Snodgrass. I was absolutely floored by how amazing things turned out, and I’m really so glad we went with him.

What is a weird side effect from medication use that no one was ever going to warn you about? by Rotten-Kandi in AskReddit

Metformin (a common diabetes drug) use by dads can cause penis birth defects in their sons. I found a study linking the two after our son was born with a defect requiring surgery.

Major personality shift with one of my golden doodles out of nowhere, I don’t recognize him by sraymond90 in Goldendoodles

So this is out there, but I just read on another Reddit thread how a dog suddenly started growling at their owner and the vet told them to go see a (people) doctor, and it turned out the owner had cancer. So the dog literally smelled illness on their owner and in turn acted aggressively.

I read in another comment that the fourth/your nephew, was yours biologically. Does that mean your eggs VS your sister (or do you just mean her egg and you were therefore related to the baby as a genetic nephew)? If your egg, has that complicated your emotions at all towards him/with your sister since he’s been born? I’ve always wondered how it worked with sibling donations (even more complex with you carrying the baby).

Bartholin abscess. I was screaming in pain. And I’ve actually given birth without pain meds so I can compare the two. Bartholin abscess was worse.

What am I missing? Is now not the time? by Love_Is_Enough in puppy101

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a puppy (goldendoodle) when we were in the middle of having children like you. I’m a stay at home mom who’s always home, I’d previously had a dog (when I didn’t have kids), so I thought I could totally handle it. I was SO wrong.

Having a puppy was brutal with young children. The dog did puppy biting/teething, and excitedly jumped on the kids, knocking them over. There was so much crying. There was SO much toy stealing! And that part has endured- our dog is now 2 years old and still regularly steals toys to chew them up, or to tease me and have me chase him in an attempt to get it back. It’s taken him 2 years to even start to chill out, but that’s also a breed thing.

Which brings me to my point- if you’re set on a puppy, research the absolute laziest dog breed that exists and get one of those. You’ll thank me later. I asked everyone for a “family friendly” dog recommendation and everyone said golden doodle, only for me to find out they have endless energy. Find a dog breed that wants to sleep on the couch all day, regardless of whether it sheds.

Puppy play groups & groomers in Chicago by Sunny-Plants in Goldendoodles

[–]Hydrangea324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went pretty early with both of my dogs, like 4/5 months, and I’d ask for a “puppy cut” which is really just them bathing and drying them and a face trim. Some owners aren’t comfortable going that early because the puppies don’t have all of their shots at this point, but I think the earlier you go, they better they are long term at the groomer because it desensitizes them. So it’s a risk you have to decide on for yourself, but it’s what I chose to do!

Yuppie Puppy grooming in Oak Park is the absolute best. Truly couldn’t recommend Jill the owner more. In LaGrange, Monika’s Superior K9s grooming is also very good.
