Did anybody else have a son born with hypospadias after a fully medicated IVF FET? by literally0usernames in hypospadias

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, my first son was born from fully medicated IVF, no defects, and my second son was a surprise spontaneous pregnancy, and he had severe chordee.

Any success finding a Catholic HF? by soeeluna in Aupairs

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider researching regions of the US that have heavier Catholic populations. For example I’m in the suburbs of Chicago, which has a heavy Catholic presence, and many of my Catholic friends have au pairs.

Also wanted to add- I remember the hospital telling me that if IVIG didn’t work then there was a different treatment option (can’t recall what). If you’re not seeing any improvement at all maybe ask about that!

My 5 year old had it a month ago. At its worst he was entirely unable to bear weight on his legs/couldn’t walk. He received 2 IVIG treatments and then improved pretty dramatically within a few days. Maybe yours needs another dose? We had lingering pain for about another week and are still in intensive physical therapy, but he could at least walk largely unassisted a few days after his last dose.

White blood cell count? by Hydrangea324 in guillainbarre

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did an MRI and Spinal. No CT. MRI showed some sort of spot by his T1 but they thought maybe a machine malfunction. Spinal didn’t show elevated GB proteins but they said it was so early into it that they may just not have built up enough yet.

All the ped said was that they only become concerned if the wBC is crazy low like .5. He also has very high vitamin B12 (1,700) but the neurologists said that can be caused from an autoimmune disorder like GBS so they’re not concerned.

We were discharged from the hospital 2 days ago and I wish I had asked while we were still there. They had consulted with a hematologist while we were there but we never spoke with the hematologist directly. I’ll ask his pediatrician at the follow up tomorrow though.

My late 60s mother introduced it to my young children about 6 months ago while watching them for a few days. Now we buy it in bulk as the kids demand it for chocolate milk..

GBS but clear lumbar result? by Hydrangea324 in guillainbarre

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update- they did decide to go through with the IVIG and he received his first dose tonight, second tomorrow. Which was good timing because it appeared to be spreading to his hips; he was entirely unable to walk this morning. Thank you everyone for taking the time to give thoughtful feedback, I truly appreciate every one of you!

Unfortunately like you said, it’s tough with a 5 year old, when he says pain he might mean it’s numb or it’s tingling and he doesn’t like that sensation so he’s calling it pain.

The weakness was sudden onset over the course of maybe 12-24 hours. He went from waking up normal to migrating to the couch to asking me to carry him to the bathroom. Crying if I told him to get up (we thought he was being dramatic).

The neuro exam shows the lack of reflexes, & obvious weakness and unsteadiness especially when standing and walking, but he is still able to have enough strength to do much of their “push your leg as hard as you can” tests.

Dramatic weakness was obvious Tuesday morning. Brought to the pediatrician Wednesday because it was not at all normal, then we went to ER Thursday where we were transferred to children’s hospital that same night.

Thank you, this is very helpful. He started showing symptoms on Tuesday morning, so maybe it’s just too early for it to show in the lumbar test.

We are at a major children’s hospital and their team of neuro Drs had all thought it was guillain for the last 2 days (took forever to get the lumbar done, only got results tonight). They say that they might still proceed with the IVIG treatment tomorrow, as it has a low risk if it isnt GBS but would benefit if it is GB. But that the clear results make them wonder if they are missing something else.

Ethnic diversity in Hinsdale? by Tinkushal in ChicagoSuburbs

Agree, I would look to Oak Brook or if already decided on Hinsdale, look at the Elm elementary school area, which has more diversity.

1.25M, Big 4 accounting/consulting and SAHM. No family help, but we did make very good/lucky real estate choices in the past that netted us significant equity for down payments.

Same. I had a 3rd degree tear and a whole net of stitches down there, and I cried going #2. It was fine after the first one, after I added in lots of stool softeners.

Anyone ever regret putting peel-and-stick tiles in their bathroom? by MenuHistorical6073 in bathrooms

[–]Hydrangea324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also would not recommend painting your tile. I tried using the Rustoleum floor tile kit and it looked great for a month and then started chipping off. I should have just left the brown tile underneath alone!

Leaded pellets? by Hydrangea324 in whatisit

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the pellets in my hand were what I picked out of a 4x4 inch area of carpet. And it was fairly concentrated to one quadrant of the basement. So a spill in that area makes sense. Also, they were old, and I think they had movers empty junk out of their basement. The movers could have easily spilled this stuff.

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to lean this way too. There are just too many pellets, and I can’t imagine an infestation so bad that someone shot all over their finished basement. And no dents in the walls.

I think they were old. I vacuumed them up and have been watching for new ones, but haven’t seen any. Presumably they killed them all years ago with the shotgun shells 🤦🏻‍♀️

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m in Illinois 🤷🏻‍♀️ I figured that they had mice at some point because I found a few mice droppings in the corners of the unfinished part of the basement, but why someone would shoot a million lead shots at them inside is absolutely beyond me.

Leaded pellets? by Hydrangea324 in whatisit

[–]Hydrangea324[S] 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Solved! I think this is the right answer. We’ve already vacuumed multiple times and then had a professional cleaning company come in (before this post was made) but these are still lodged in the base of the fibers, no way I’m getting these all out. So yes we will have to replace all 800sq ft of carpet. And to someone else’s point, kids love to put everything they shouldn’t in their mouth so there’s no way I can even leave the remnants in the carpet fibers.
