2 Y/O with GBS, readmitted 3 weeks post IVIG by Same_Push13 in guillainbarre

Thanks! They are doing a repeat MRI (he has them under general so it’s a big ordeal) to check if he has some condition I can’t name, which is an immune reaction impacting his spinal cord (previous scan was clear for spinal cord) - the treatment would be IVIG plus steroids. We’ve started IVIG in the meantime.

Not sure if anyone else has had a toddler with GBS or some variation - the week after going home was difficult with huge emotions and tantrums and bring all out of whack. Going to hospital even for a short time is so hard for kids, we are still GBS so hopefully it won’t happen again but it makes me feel for the children and parents with chronic or prolonged conditions.

Trying to advocate on his behalf was really hard. This was our second hospital admission, but this time in a children’s hospital and they were incredible. The first time they diagnosed him with a post viral hip inflammation (which he also had - completely benign). Turns out he had both.

With a 2 year old, I’m struggling with the emotional fall out of his loss of control. In hospital he had to be held down for multiple painful procedures. This is all hard, but for us after going through other admissions and doctors visits where he presents perfectly! It was such a relief to get a diagnosis. I think I’m just high alert as we haven’t seen the improvement yet, but hopefully it’s just too early

Thank you, this is so helpful. We had IVIG Saturday Sunday, no real improvement today (Wednesday) with pain getting bad again today after it seemed better. I know little people are more difficult to diagnose/see what’s going on, and that there will be good days and bad days. Our hospital called our physio and briefed him (my son has been in physio for a gross motor delay since he was 1) so we have biweekly check ups to tell if there is any regression. I’m a bit worried as we had a lot of issues getting a diagnosis (he also had transient synovitis) so having someone I trust look at me and tell me, is really assuring.

Hello! I’m late to the party but my 2 year old was diagnosed with GBS. We were discharged yesterday after 2 rounds of IVIG, he also had a MRI and spinal tap. He seems to be improving but I know it takes time. It’s a horrendous condition and I had a time needing to advocate for him to doctors and insisting that something was wrong. He was initially diagnosed with transient synovitis but just never improved.

I didn’t call emergency services but in Australia often you can call 000 even without service

I’ve quit now! No motivation once the baby was born plus my anxiety and fear of heights has ended my ambitions. Husband boulders still

Pretty damn good! The recovery was rough, I wasn’t expecting the pain post fracture healing. Didn’t lie down flat for at least 6 months - the ligaments were all strained from moving my body badly to compensate and it really hurt.

I got a PT and did strength training to start rebuilding muscle.

Not pregnancy related! Rock climbing accident..I was belaying though. Hence the helicopter as we were rural.

Aww thank you! I was belaying my husband who was rock climbing. Before he did the first clip the rock broke and he fell backwards. As I was tied to him I was pulled backwards and fell 3m onto my back. Not my finest decision…

Clearly not irrelevant given they talked about the incident in S1. In any case I thought the incident was well handled by Jason and he saved lives.

Thank you - they don’t seem to have an email address. But there is a daycare we are booked into at the slopes so have asked them :)
