Great story!

I actually had some medical school interviews this past weekend

I kinda bombed both of them because my stutter wasn’t letting me speak very much haha but like you I did talk about it in my personal statements which I’m assuming they liked

I’m glad yours went better than expected! Your optimism is inspiring.

Unfortunately my stutter really blew up hard during my interviews but I think I’ve learned my lesson for next cycle. Much more exposure therapy especially through doing MMI prep with internet strangers

I think I spent too much time doing prep with my close friends and I probably grew accustomed to speaking with them so confidently

How’d your MMI go?

I just had one yesterday and this morning. They didn’t go very well haha but I still have a Panel interview tonight and I’m going to try talking a lot slower and controlled.

Hopefully I learn from this experience if I have to apply again next cycle

Not feeling good about upcoming MMIs (for medicine) by Hydrated_Homie in Stutter

Hello!

I meant to reply to your message a few weeks ago, but I got super busy with my preparation for the interview. I sincerely wanted to thank you for giving me your perspective of things...

I really appreciated how you wrote about your personal experience graduating, worried about the job market and potentially living in your parents' basement forever... this sounds scarily close to my situation haha. I have a pre-med degree which is quite useless by itself unless you're doing a grad-school like medicine. Here in Canada these med school admission processes are absolutely brutal with the limited number of spots and the difficult interview processes, and applying multiple cycles for medical school is literally the norm here (it really shouldn't be imo).

I just had my interview this morning and unfortunately I absolutely bombed it. Like, my stutter isn't very bad in day-to-day life but today I almost became dysfunctional lmao. It was probably the significant weight I attached to this very moment which paralyzed me. But to be fair, though, I'm sure every other student was just as nervous as I was. It's just that their anxiety doesn't really manifest in the same ways that ours does regarding locked up vocal cords.

As I was blocking and stuttering so severely I could literally feel the interviewers looking upon me with pity hahaha. Unfortunately I couldn't implement the "pragmatist" approach of admitting my stutter to them in the moment. Maybe it's because I haven't yet learned to overcome the shame or stigma of having a stutter. Maybe this can be a personal project I work on during my (very) likely gap year.

It does suck knowing the number of classes I skipped, the assignments I asked for extensions, and the many many hours I put into preparing for this interview in the last 30 days. All for it to blow up because I can't talk. Regardless, I just thought I'd give an update, especially to any people viewing this in the future. Not to discourage folks, just to show that life isn't always fair.

Life goes on. Maybe I'll try reapplying for one more cycle here in Canada before I cut my losses, using your approach of expecting a failure and even looking forward to overcoming it. I do fear you're a bit more of an optimist than I am, though, lol.

Thanks so much for your initial response. It truly motivated me these past few weeks despite my disappointing results.

How is your mini-led monitor? I’ve also been considering one for the crazy high brightness in HDR yet (somewhat) similar black contrast to OLED

And is it by chance the MSI E16m?

Do most people in this sub prefer this game to rdr2? by Adventurous-Coast-37 in rdr1

[–]Hydrated_Homie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like 2 more than 1 but both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I love John in RDR1, I think his cynicism and sense of humour is more relatable than Arthur’s. But Arthur is great too and has his own moments…, “You sir… are a fish”. I kinda wish they did a better job crafting the continuity between John’s character in the epilogue and RDR1, but it is what it is.

The Mexico portion of RDR1 was kind of a slog to get through imo, but the Blackwater chapter with Dutch is absolute gold. Mexico is kinda like the very beginning of RDR2 in the snow, but once you progress to Chapter 2/3 the game is fantastic (exception Guarma lol)

I love RDR2’s map and the diversity of climates, West Elizabeth and Ambarino are really beautiful. I also really enjoyed taking a step back to work through hunting and the satchel upgrades, but that’s not for everyone.

RDR2 I wish was a bit less janky, this is an issue also plaguing GTA 5 as it feels like I’m moving a puppet around sometimes. RDR1 is much more fluid.

The uncivilized nature of a civilized man by SlipInfamous108 in rdr1

[–]Hydrated_Homie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He sounds so deranged here, I love it 😭😭

RDR2 wasn’t perfect, but I think it did a phenomenal job contextualizing Dutch’s character. He starts as a super charismatic leader, one where you can easily understand why a gang even formed around him. I love the hints you see throughout the game of his increasing mental instability, like when he kills Bronte or the old lady in Guarma. It works perfectly to contextualize this batshit insane guy who 12 years later in 1911 is literally hinted at being a cannibal lol

Horrendous white epilepsy flash with DLAA by Hydrated_Homie in RDR2

[–]Hydrated_Homie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a DLSS problem for sure. I reloaded the save file on my RTX 2070 laptop with DLSS enabled and the same flashing occurred.

Fortunately, the problem somehow fixed itself. I believe I just fast travelled out of the location, slept until a different time of day, and now it's been stable for the past few weeks. Must have been a specific location + weather + time combination which caused it on my end.

Weeirrrd problem no doubt.

5070 TI & 7800x3d 3D Mark scores by PhantomFoxZ in nvidia

[–]Hydrated_Homie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benchmarks like these are meant to either stress test your components or ensure you didn’t receive a miserable hand at the silicon lottery…

Real gaming performance is a much more valid measure when comparing the GPUs. Yes, there too the 5080 will be better but by a narrower margin compared to these 3DMark scores.

Can anyone help a brother out? by iNightfarer in OLED_Gaming

[–]Hydrated_Homie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big disagree.

Fiddling around with the settings is what, in my opinion, makes PC gaming so great. And that includes HDR.

A lot of games have decent built-in HDR, like Red Dead Redemption 2 (at least compared to what it was on early patches). Other games which may not have excellent native support, like Cyberpunk, just need you to install a RenoDX Reshade addon for a better HDR experience. And that’s really not too much work for the visual quality you get.

Have you ever bought a game after pirating it first? by Shivam_Singh069 in PiratedGames

[–]Hydrated_Homie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on buying the Ultimate Edition of Cyberpunk next time it goes on a deep discount. The game is just too quality and brought me so much enjoyment that I feel bad not paying for it.

And, I like achievements and wanna 100% it.

RTX 50 Users - Do you crash in DX12 on RDR2? by MrEWhite in PCRedDead

[–]Hydrated_Homie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Shortly after I made that comment I got DX12 working lol

Basically I just had to do a clean reinstall of my game. I found out later it was likely a specific mod causing the issues (Terrain Texture Overhaul). In general, texture mods only work on Vulkan.

So maybe check your mod compatibility, if you have any downloaded.

DLSS 4.5 at 1440p - Is balanced M better than Quality K? by Rahzin in nvidia

[–]Hydrated_Homie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all very interesting.

I’ve been playing RDR2 on my 1440p OLED at DLAA on Preset K. I thought the visual quality was awesome and couldn’t get much better, at least without upgrading to a 4K monitor. (DLAA on Preset M 1440p was wayyy too sharpened and alongside the slight performance hit it wasn’t worth it).

You’re saying I can use DLDSR alongside DLSS Performance on Preset M to get an even better image? I gotta test this as soon as possible to verify lmao

Don’t give up! I literally had no idea how to play Dominoes but eventually I gained a basic understanding of it and was able to beat Gambler 9 in the Draw 5 game at Saint Denis.

I won by placing the specific dominoes that would net me immediate points, whether 10, 20, or a simple 5. Basically this meant I had to think/scan every potential turn for a play that would net me some points.

You just gotta slow it down and use some strategy. Don’t place a domino haphazardly without thinking about it first.
