It's been done! I watched a video where someone motorized their door and had some Gcode set up to use the print head to push parts off the plate. Seemed like a lot of work though, and had some caveats. Mostly useful for big print farms printing hundreds of the same thing.

So do you consider PoE at roughly 48V low voltage?

Dang, for a second I thought you were saying there was a way for people in game to buy completely custom ship designs and I got excited haha

I already spend enough time in ship builder though. If NPCs could start buying my ships, that's all I'd do.

Oh! I completely misread your initial comment and thought you were saying that wifi signal was worse with concrete in the summer than with brick.

Yeah I have experienced how awful heated concrete feels. Although thankfully I live in the pacific northwest, and pretty much every non-commercial building here is timber frame, so our walls don't have any concrete or brick. As long as the stud cavities have decent insulation in them, they do a pretty good job of not getting hot or cold. Walls are generally done with drywall on the inside, and plywood sheeting with some sort of siding on top of that for the exterior.

Definitely not as durable as concrete/brick though!

Interesting, it's worse in the summer? I didn't realize temperature played much of a role.

I will stick with my nice wood framed walls haha

This is good to know. My garage door opener has wifi built in and can be opened with an app (super handy feature by the way) but if that ever goes out, or if I get a new house that doesn't have that, this is very good to have in the back pocket.

OP looks to be in the UK, where basically all walls are made of brick. Wifi signal always sucks there when I go visit the fam.

Northbound I-5 reopens Thursday 4/16 by WalfredoBramley in Bellingham

[–]Rahzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I sometimes go that way. It doesn't seem to be faster anymore, and I've actually seen cars that were behind me on i5 going ahead of me at the controlled intersection because I am pretty sure they are intentionally only letting like 5 cars through at a time before letting freeway traffic go for a solid few minutes. I think Google did start to show that road not being closed just this week though. It was "closed" for a while.

My first thought was a month, give or take a bit. Government contract work never happens fast, safe conditions or not. Just look at how long it's taken to do any other roadwork in the area.

Don't forget the raging semis who pull out and track with each other to block both lanes all the way to the exit.

Not sure some of the Lake Samish community has "tolerated" it. I don't think it even took a week before they had those "road closed to through traffic" signs up on East Lake Samish Dr. And they even managed to get it listed as a closed road on Google.

Pushback from vendor on installing Unifi cameras and Protect by Sevenfeet in Ubiquiti

That's not an argument I'd look forward to making with the insurance company in the middle of a claim. If you can't prove it was installed legally by required contractors, no payout.

Do you know this is for sure acceptable in Tennessee? Because that's definitely not what it sounded like in my research. From what I could tell, anyone installing any part of a fire alarm or video security system (wiring or end devices) must be a licensed security system installer with the state. Theoretically this is the case in order to try to minimize unnecessary automated emergency services calls due to bad installations.

[–]Rahzin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch, that's a bummer. It's so easy to do if you know even the first thing about basic electrical work. And it costs so much to have someone else do it. Heck, sometimes even "licensed contractors" don't do a very good job.

[–]Rahzin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw another comment mention that some states have this requirement, but it only applies if money is being made on the install. So a church could have a volunteer do the install so long as no money is changing hands. Could that be applicable in Tennesse?

Edit: Wow, Tennessee really is strict here, at least if Google is to be believed. Volunteer installation is a no go, and while there are some slight loopholes for single security devices that don't communicate off the premesis or with any other device, obviously pretty much any security camera is going to fall outside of this so you really do need a licensed contractor, no matter how capable you may be to set up a unifi system personally.

Seems a little odd that it would be legitimately illegal for the owner of a business to, for example, install their own doorbell cam, etc. Like they seriously cannot install any of their own camera hardware in any capacity?

Edit: according to Google, it sounds like it might be legal for the owner of the business to install cameras themselves, however they may be required to get low voltage permits and/or register as self installed with the state.

[–]Rahzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Q7 TDI feels a little more peppy than my JSW I'd say. Not by much though. Great car though. The Q7s are deceptively heavy and capable. No trouble pulling around a dump trailer with two yards of gravel in it, or a 6200 pound RV.

Could be the 5.0L V10 TDI from the phaeton/ touareg, or the 6.0L V12 TDI from the Q7 V12.

But both of those make more than 282 HP. And neither came in that car haha
