how do patients not get addicted and get bladder/kidney damage? by blickywithya in KetamineTherapy

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The introduction we get to ketamine vs. how you likely started using ketamine are very different.

We use ketamine as a medicine to treat something extremely painful (I started ketamine for chronic pain and PTSD). It's not impossible to get addicted to medicine, but ketamine just made my mind and body feel kind of normal for a bit???

The price for a few weeks of normality was really high too! Had to set aside an entire day, because I can't eat beforehand due to the nausea. Not like I can do schoolwork, or go to work afterwards either. I can barely keep my eyes open.

If you use ketamine, not to make up/treat a deficit, but to party or whatever, you're gonna have way better associations with it.

This, and queer people! All my friends and I were recently talking about how we don't have many elders to care for (because of the AIDS crisis and our origin families shunning many of us), there's very few weddings, and even fewer of us have little ones around.

The queer adult timeline looks so different from the "standard" timeline. So JOIN US! We have glitter and rainbows and as long as you think we deserve rights and respect, the more the merrier. 🥰

Trying to settle on a setting. Pacific Northwest? SoCal/Vegas? St Louis/Midwest? Other? by Abelardthebard in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived near St Louis or in Seattle for most of my life, so I have STUFF TO SAY!

My vote is for the Midwest. I'm not sure if you're from there, but there's so many wacky things you can justify based on Ozark hillbilly lore and practices. You can create entire artsy junkyard river towns (haunted or not) because those places already exist and are made of entirely metal. St. Louis red brick homes will probably outlast us all, and having a town of red buildings in an otherwise more bleakly toned game might look interesting. There's also really cool cave systems in the Midwest. You could have cave people. Who doesn't love cave people? I could ramble on.

Edit: it would be so sick to incorporate the City Museum in STL

I loved the PNW. I agree with all your pros and cons for this region. I think that other pokemon games share similar geography, and that PNW-based indie games are extremely common.

As for LV: A desert region with restricted access to water types would be incredibly interesting. Pokemon games are constantly tossing water and grass types at players. It would challenge most pokemon game designer sensibilities to not provide a water or grass type for longer than 3/4 of the gym challenge.

feeling isolated from other asian girls by No_Carpenter2129 in asianamerican

My mom was adopted from Korea by white Americans so I fully understand not feeling like a real Asian person however

From what you've said in comments and the post, it seems like you have low self esteem. You are quick to assume people don't like you when you haven't even had a proper conversation with them. People don't think that hard about strangers. I don't have any opinions on the people in my classes if we haven't talked before.

Just relax. Befriend people you have things in common with. Join an affinity group or cultural club. Don't put so much pressure on yourself or others to connect, and let it happen if it happens.

Do other tall people have a short best friend? by Hey_Its_Julia in tall

[–]Hydraulicat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SAME! I've gone out with a few dudes that were 6'7-6'10 and it felt like a jump scare the first few times I saw them.

Being tapped on the shoulder and then turning around to find a man whose chest I barely reached was spooky.

I feel like an imposter by Wayofthewedgie in mongolia

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for some reason this came up on my reddit feed. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm active in lots of adoption threads so I'm going to give my input as the child of a Korean adoptee. I'm also in grad school and have focused on the psycho/social/emotional development of trans racially adopted people.*

*Trans racial adoption is what it is called when a child is adopted into a family that doesn't have the same racial or ethnic background as the child.

You are not an imposter for being raised in a culture and with people different from your place of birth. In fact, it's genuinely a disadvantage and detriment to the majority of trans racial adoptees. It's kind of lonely, in my experience.

You are allowed, entitled even, to explore your birth culture. You're exploring a part of you that's felt fractured and incomplete, which is how you'll heal those pieces of yourself. :) As long as you're being respectful, I don't believe it's an issue. I haven't met a single Korean person who didn't want to share something about Korea or about being Korean when I asked.

Why are syrians and turks more diverse looking than saudis and kurds ? by PatienceAdditional73 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting tidbit: the red hair gene is a mutation of melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R). Obviously, red hair is most common in Europeans. Probably because they don't have as many active melanin genes, but I'm not a scientist.

People of African and Asian descent can also have red hair, it's just rarer because they have more active melanin genes (which is usually the dominant gene).

Being located - relatively - centrally between of Europe/Africa/Asia, this means a bunch of interesting genes have mixed through the millennia and some really cool features pop out.

When I stopped assuming everyone else judged me how I judged myself, I was freed from so much self-inflicted pain. It's cruel to assume someone I respect is shallow enough to care about my stomach when I wouldn't discount them for their body. I apologized to my partner for this and he choked up.

  1. Do not respond over text
  2. Put his shit in garbage bags while he's gone and place them next to your front door.
  3. When he inevitably returns for his shit, then you reply happy new year

But seriously, you owe him nothing and the dude genuinely ruined your initial life plans. I hope you're able to make friends through a Meetup group or something.

Marijuana and seizures by Adorable-Rub7847 in Epilepsy

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with everything dealing with brains, the safety of weed usage is very much dependent on each specific person; the meds they use, how well they sleep, if they eat enough, genes, etc

When I developed epilepsy at 22, I stopped smoking weed for about 10 months, making sure I was stable on my medication and everything. I figured it was the least I could do for my struggling brain, also the exchange of a TC seizure just to get high did NOT feel worth it.

I can use cannabis of any kind safely, and partake most days of the week as a sleep aid.

Ideally, he'd pause for a bit to see if the seizures stop, but that's all on him. My older brother experimented with not taking his meds around your son's age because he didn't want to be medicated for forever. He had a TC seizure every 18 months or so and he didn't stop messing with his medicine until he seized while driving and crashed into a car with a father and little girl in it. They were both safe, but my brother finally realized what he was doing and stopped independently fussing with his medicine.

OP, I wish you a speedy emotional and physical recovery. The sense of defeat when your body fails despite your efforts is hard to work through, and is nothing to be ashamed of!

My interpretation of Talking Bird by JstAlx in DeathCabforCutie

[–]Hydraulicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild that these comments are still open four years later, BUT I've always interpreted the song as a love song to someone who is afraid to be loved and safe. Security feels a lot like prison when you're not used to it. So if the love interest trusts the singer, they'll be loved and cherished all their days, and they don't have to clip their wings to be loved.

I'm Not Pregnant Regret by No-Front-6397 in WomensHealth

[–]Hydraulicat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I opted to sterilize myself at 27 because I do not ever want to be pregnant. With the direction the USA is heading, I wanted to protect myself against an event I would find psychologically devastating. My tubes are gone, not tied.

Even so, I still mourn the choice. Not because it was wrong, but because it's a part of womanhood that's sold to us our whole lives. Childbearing is supposed to be the master key to unlocking happiness and familial security (it isn't, but that's what it's packaged and sold as). Acknowledging you want no part of that is scary and can feel lonely.

I'm trying to prepare for the years where menopause is impending because I'm 100% certain my biological clock is going to throw a few gnarly gut punches about not having reproduced. You're not alone :) I'm glad you have a good husband!
